Hi - I have to be brief, cos I have already squandered more time than I can spare on this bunch of thieving robbers!!
Basically, last month's bill was more than I'd expected, but as OH was abroad at the time, I thought it might have something to do with my having made calls abroad outside my call-bundle.
Today however, I registered for online Vodafone account handling and looked at my bill - there were lots of charges from KKO on it for some sort of £4.50/week service.
I have no idea what this service is and certainly have not signed up for it. I did receive texts telling me that I had subscribed to something and giving me instructions on how to cancel, but I thought that it was some kind of scam, along with all the other junk texts I receive nowadays.
Full marks actually, for Vodafones handling of the situation when I called them, but it remains a mystery as to how I got subscribed to this service in the first place - apparently, it could have been via accidentally clicking a link on the internet, but given that I would need to have confirmed my number and some personal details, I still don't understand how this could possibly have happened.
Vodafone seems unable to stop further scams like this appearing on my account - it seems that the only solution is more active regulation of it on my part to identify unaccounted-for charges as and when they appear and report them.
I called KK0 on the number given and think that I have now cancelled my subscription (not that I ever consciously subscribed to it in the first place..). The supremely unhelpful person I spoke to at KKO however, was not inclined to tell me how the subscription was made in the first place. When I started to insist, because as far as I am concerned, some form of fraud or identity theft must have occurred for it to have happened, he cut be off. The cheek of it!!!!
Surely this sort of thing should be illegal! Martin, you have another job to do when you surface from your mountain of existing projects!!0 -
Hi
KKO has asked to provide a response. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the Forum.
We understand that the commitment to a subscription made through the mobile payment system supported by the UK operators can be misunderstood.
There is no obligation to remain subscribed to the service and you can easily unsubscribe by texting STOP to 64546.
To avoid any nasty surprises we send a free SMS each month to remind you that your subscription remains active and reminding you how to unsubscribe. We record the logs on these SMS which we verify whenever a request for a refund is made.
We remind people to stay vigilant in regards of text messages received, checking their mobile bills and not letting children play with their phones.
If you have unwittingly subscribed to the KKO service please contact our customer services department in order for them to study your case in detail so that we can find a solution.

I've read through this forum with increasing anger, but also some relief in that I consider I have got off lightly.
Full marks go to T-Mobile who have credited my account with £5 (after a bit of prompting - but nevertheless at the first call!).
As for KKO and their claims to take customer complaints seriously - I give you my experience:
My 3-year old grandson was playing with a free iphone game (I was sat next to him). He is a bit 'trigger-happy' with his fingers and before I knew anything about it he had subscribed to KKO - probably through clicking on one of the banner adverts.
Yes, they sent a text confirming it. Yes, I saw something on the iphone screen - after the fact - that told me something had happened. I tried to cancel the purchase (using the button on the screen) but nothing happened.
I immediately sent KKO an email and rang them as soon as their offices opened. They confirmed they had stopped the subscription but as for my attempt to obtain a refund:
"It is clearly stated in our mobile site that people under the age of 18 years old are excluded from participating, unless they have permission from the bill payer. Therefore, having a minor subscribing to our services is not a valid argument since as owner of the mobile device you are responsible for the use of it and for the subscriptions initiated with it by you or by a third party."
I am still hoping that they will recognise the madness of their response ... and if they do I will gladly update this post. But as for their remarks about contacting them in the case of unwittingly subscribing - it didn't do me any good.
Some of the above posts detail the 'safeguards' that are supposed to be in place to make sure a proper 'authorised' purchase is made. I cannot reconcile that with the experience I have had.
It appears that KKO expects a 3 year old to be able to read and understand their legal terms and conditions and whatever may or may not be on their mobile site. Their adverts are being placed in games for very young children, so it is not difficult to foresee that these problems might happen.
I sincerely hope that the regulators are reading these posts and will take some action to ensure that phone purchases are properly authenticated (I didn't even know this sort of purchase was possible). Even Apple asks for your password to confirm a purchase.0 -
Cannot believe this scam is still going on. I reported this a year and a half ago and complained to Three, PhonePayPlus etc etc and no action was taken by any of them. I eventually got a partial refund from Three after several long phonecalls.
It looks set to continue until Ofcom take some action. Everybody needs to get on the case and report this to BBC Watchdog before more people get ripped off.
I just sent my story to them, if we bombard them with all ours then hopefully they can investigate and bring about better regulation.0 -
I am in a similar situation as everyone apart from the fact that I do not know who is charging me because I deleted the first text they sent as I thought it was just a scam and now tesco mobile have given me a number that is not recognized anywhere. The number is 00089430020186. No one seems to know who this company is. I have tried tech my text but its not them, does anyone recognize this number.? I have called tesco mobile more than 5 times and they have now put a bar on my account but still not sure if money will be refunded and if the subscription is cancelled as they(tesco mobile) did not know who this company was!!! How can they not know who they are paying? I believe this happened when my little girl played on my iPhone with free kids games, this is purely disgusting. Will appreciate some direction on this issue. Thanks0

These were the details for the company taking money from my account: MyDoo – KKO UK, 43-45 Avenue Victor Hugo, 93534 Aubervilliers, France. Customer Service: 0845 834 1119 or supportuk@kkomobile.co.uk
Pretty awful people and shocking responses to my emails I sent them, they know exactly what they're doing. Good luck.0 -

and absolutely no message from your Network or 'premium rate' company that your money is being taken.
and
I wonder how many other parents have been suspecting (for years) their children's (or even their own) 'pay as you go' credit is disappearing quicker than they believe it should be.
Cellfish is only one of several dozen companies involved in this type of 'billing' exercise!0
