What would I do without this thread?! In my little mind, I didn't think she could have normal cereal or cows milk (unless cooked) until she was 1!. A whole new window of opportunity has just opened :rotfl:. Note to self:- must read the weaning booklets properly
.
Thanks, Tss, I'm Up North so will have a look in Home Bargains. And thanks, Claire, I'll also be going to Farm Foods too!0 -

Ok thought I'd post this on here for those of you who only come on and check certain threads.

I've posted on the thread before about my health problems, and the fact that I should lose a bit of weight and do some exercise.
I joined a gym yesterday! I'm a bit nervous as I'm a gym virgin, but I guess I'll get the hang of things over time.
I'm booked in with an instructor this afternoon who will do a health and fitness assessment on me, draw up a training plan and show me how to use the machines and stuff. I'll see her again throughout the year and she'll do comparison assessments so I can see how much my body has improved.
It's got a lovely pool, jacuzzi and sauna, so I'm looking forward to trying those, and I quite like the sound of some of the classes. There's one called Groove FX where it's a dance based workout to funky pop music and I'm quite keen on that one. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I used to love some of the classes at the gym I went to, my favourite was Body balance (cross between yoga, pilates and ti chi), but I found it so difficult to get there regularly because I was working away from home a lot I gave up my membership.
Enjoy, if you stick with it you'll be amazed at the results you can achieve0 -
I had my assessment. Results were not good
Got high blood pressure which I knew about, high BMI, high body fat, poor flexbility, and my heart performance and oxygen levels are poor. The lady said don't worry about all of that though, as I've made the right step in doing something about it, and it can all be fixed! My grip strength was excellent though, which she said was probably from carrying Charlotte around
She's written me a programme working on a bike, a stepper and a treadmill which I should try and do 2-3 times a week. She's going to review me in 2-3 months time, or if I find it gets too easy I can ask her earlier to make it harder. She's also going to do the health assessment again in 2-3 months and show me how much I've improved.
There is a Body Balance class and she said that was good for beginners, so I'm going to have a go at that one.
The pool area is lovely and it has a sauna (I love saunas!), steam room and jacuzzi. Children are allowed in on an afternoon, so I can take Charlotte down. I stopped going to our local pool as it was a bit grubby and the changing rooms are always freezing cold. She would scream getting dried and dressed because she was cold and I'd end up shivering too. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Apologies in advance for the long post. I've not been around for a while and am about to go away again for a week. Phew!
When we were away Imogen ate things like omlette, scrambled eggs, toast, jacket potatoes, oh, and chips. She just loved chips! I always swore we wouldn't give them to her, and we managed 15 months, but it was something easy for her to have, and she gobbled them up, so was at least eating something. In the end we had to hide them from her or she wouldn't eat anything else! (I'd just like to clarify that chips aren't our staple diet, it's just they always serve sandwiches with them!) I used to feel guilty, but then I figured, it's only a few days/weeks out of a lifetime.
We too take Phili sandwiches (a current fave) or she just gets some of what we're having.
Jars are good as you can carry them round without keeping them chilled, but if you have time I'd work on getting LO used to some finger foods as, in our experience, the French don't have the same range of jars as we do.
Good luck at the gym Becles. The sauna was my fave bit too :rotfl: Hopefully you'll enjoy the 'me time' as well as the exercise. You can be Becles and not Mummy, hurrah!
We had Imogen's half-day BBQ today (for those who don't know her b'day is Boxing Day and my guilt is such that we have chosen for her to have an 'official' birthday, just like the Queen. We call it her half-day as it's half-way through the year). We had 10 kids, plus parents from 12-3 and it poured down
Still, pretty much all the food was eaten and everyone had a good time. It was the first time a lot of the dads have met, but they bonded over burnt meat!
I'd baked a cake and iced 1 1/2 on top, which people thought was cute. I am v proud that I did my Nigella impression and also made home-made burgers, coleslaw and potato salad. You wouldn't think I worked 4 days a week! :A
She wasn't that impressed about other children playing with her toys, but she got over it. And I'm pleased to say that the kids demolished two large bowls of grapes and pineapple slices :T Peace and order are now restored. We have cleared away and hoovered and you'd never know we crammed more than 20 people in to the house at lunchtime. I'm just glad it's someone else's turn next...MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Where have you got your babies first shoes from. Rhys is 10 months old now and crawling really well and cruising like a pro so know it probably won't be long before her is walking unaided. We go on holiday for 10 days next Monday so want to have some fitted shoes to take with us, in case it happens while we're away.
We've just been to Clarks in Mothercare and the 17 year old assistant had to be one of the stroppiest c*w's i've ever met. Turns out Rhys has v wide feet with a fitting of H, they had one pair in a 3 and nothing in a 3 and half - she tried to blame his "thick" socks for why the 3's wouldn't go on, even though that was what they measured at. When we asked about ordering something she said they didn't and we'd have to keep coming back in to check, she also couldn't tell us when they were likely to have anything in that size in.
I've just checked Clarks website and they have about 2 pairs of crusiers which go up to a H. This has really put me off using Clarks at all, so who else is there?
Both me and DH have bad feet so we don't want to make the same mistake with DS and want to ensure they fit properly, but if he has such wide feet we are limited!0 -

We are having Ellies half day party on 25 June as she is an xmas day baby. We will be in Edinburgh for it so will treat her while were away.
It's just a shame it rained for Imogen but as long as she still enjoyed herself that is all that mattersEveryone is entitled to their opinionEllie 25/12/070 -
Hi everyone,
Wondering if you can help me please?
Jack uses a booster seat at the table to eat now instead of his highchair. However this was loaned from freecycle and the people now want it back, we've had it about 7-8 months now. Its got to go in 2 days time, so we need to get something quick. I don't want to go back to the highchair as since we've switched, his spoon/fork feeding has really come along. His highchair made him to low to see over the bowl.
Can you recommend anything if we need to buy one? I've asked again on freecycle but incase it doesn't comet hrough quick enough, I've looked online this evening. Argos is cheap at 11.99 and mothercare is 19.99 but it looks a better model.
We've been leant a Lipski KID one, don't know if that's a good one or not, but its definitely served its purpose. Its here on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LIPSKI-KID-BOOSTER-SEAT-FOR-TABLE_W0QQitemZ300231906046QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item300231906046&_trkparms=72%3A238%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
What I have found is that food finds its way in all the crevices, so i'll have to soapy sponge it down in the garden and hose it, before we return it.
Please help? What do you use?
If we do buy one, i'll need it to last Jack probably for another 6 months-1 year, until he is tall enough to eat in a chair at our table, and mature enough to sit there for longer than 2 seconds and then do Molly through the same process.
Thanks
