That's really interesting thanks, part of the reason we've stayed with them for so long was the email addresses, just assumed we'd lose them if we left aol!:shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!

I've heard this before but never got round to working out how to do it.:shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!

If you are on Gold it is being upgraded to 4mb for the same price , but not offered to new customers hence why its gone off there website, youshould have got an email explaining the speed change.0 -

Be nice if the live help had explained that. It's possible the email went the main screenname address, because the account used to be my dad's and he still uses that username for email we don't have access to the email and rely on him to forward stuff to us, which he rarely remembers to do. I shall ask him to check.
4MB is no good to us as we live too far from the exchange... we get 2MB and the BT checker thought we may get up to 3 when I just put our phone number in. We are expecting to move house in the next couple of months and don't know where to yet, so don't know what speeds we'll be able to get after we move. I'm happy with the 2MB atm, I can download stuff faster at home than when I'm on my university computer!:shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!

OH has just been speaking to them on live help, trying to find out what was going on as gold had disappeared from their packages page. We were on gold for 19.99 a month as we had threatened to leave before. They offered him a free wireless router if we changed to silver (14.99) and started a new contract. They were cagey about what was happening about gold but basically it seems that if you are on gold and you don't ask to change to silver, they will carry on taking 20/25 pounds a month off you even though you will be getting the same speed. The conversation went like this...
"P B I have checked your account and found that you are on AOL Gold
Since 16 Mar 05
You Apparently that nolonger exists though
PB yes we do not offer this now any more
You Our last payment was 19.99 and we get the same speed as your silver package for £5 more?
You So how much will our next payment be on 16th Fen 2007?
PB do you wish to downgrade to silver
You what payment will be talken on 16th Feb 2007?
PB it will be 19.99
You why as silver offers the same service for 5 pounds cheaper?
You nobody has let us know about this change?
PB do you wish to change to silver
You if silver service is not as good as gold can you tell me what the differences are and what the 5 pounds extra gets me? And please answer my questions.
PB if you wish we can offer you platinum plan for 24.99
You I cant because the BT exchange is not good enough here. Can you knock off the £5 discount you offered me on the Platinum package and put it on the silver package?
PB if you agree to start a fresh 12 months contract you can downgrade to 14.99 silver
You why should I agree to start another 12 months contract?
You I could get better deals with a router for the same price elsewhere?
PB we will give you the free router at 14.99\
You on a fesh 12 month contract?
You fesh = fresh
PB yes"
We've been with aol for 10 years and even though the software is annoying we've always had excellent service and so have stayed with them... not so sure anymore, especially with the new contract etc. 12 months is a long time if the service goes downhill.
When OH said that he'd seen that some people were being offered 9.99 a month live help said "I would request you to call our cancellation department at 0870 320 2020 as we in live help have some limited rights and they will be able to suggest to you some other plans... We do not have this offer at live help." We've never had to phone up before, we got gold for 19.99 through live help last time and besides that's not what they told Eupho a few minutes earlier. Anyway thanks for the thread peeps, we'll look into it some more before phoning the 0870 number.0 -
