They have 40 calendar days to comply with the request. I think you can check at the PO to see if it's been cashed

Think I'll leave it till the new year then.
I sent it off on the 24th November, so they will probably be out of the office till January 5th. I'll send the letter on the 5th if i've not heard from them.

But will check with the post office about the Postal Order.

    thanks

  • Sent first letter in the Summer, sent 2nd letter ~4wks ago - today got letter saying they're taking £1364 off my balance!!!!!!
  • They've been working very hard at the moment. I sent them a letter on the 19th November regarding claiming PPI. I got an acknowledgement letter within the week and then on the 22nd Dec another letter to say that they were refunding my PPI plus interest...I was extremely happy. So if anything, it can't hurt to send them a gentle 'reminder' letter.

    Good luck!!

  • It only took a few weeks to come, inside the 40 day limit for us.

When you come to reclaim your charges, Egg have a series of three letters, which they refer to internally as "OFT 1", "OFT 2" and "OFT 3". They send them out in sequence so you will probably have to write to them three times before you get the full amount back, which you WILL get if you are persistent enough.
  • In addition Egg have a big backlog in their post at the moment so things are probably taking longer than usual. But they do take customer contact more seriously than some of the other institutions, who sometimes ignore letters completely.

It's not desperately urgent, my money worries are not too overpowering at the moment, got my finances down to within my Jobseekers allowance (Dam collapsing IT industry!) so I can live without getting further into debt. But my time-scale to get debt free for 2010 (or my 35th Birthday) is well under way :D

I hopefully will be back to a paying Job (or at Uni getting my Degree!!) soon enough.

Ok, as I'm starting DMP action I thought I'd see if there was anything I could do to reduce the debt myself. Egg have been a nightmare company IMHO and I have just sent off a secure online message to them asking for my charges. I wait for a reply.... deep breath.... I will do this!
