    What, you mean drowning?

It is called hyper-hydration or water intoxication. It is comparatively rare as the amount of water needed to induce this potentially fatal condition is extremely high, but it does exist.

Leah Betts is the most notable case in the UK. The media originally attributed her death to an ecstasy tablet taken on her 18th birthday and circulated a picture of her in intensive care. However, the real cause of death was simply drinking several litres of water in a short space of time.

Another notable case was in the United States when a radio show hosted a "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" competition in which one of the participants died due to water intoxication. At one point during the competition a nurse had phoned the station to try to alert the two DJs running the competition of the dangers of what they were doing, but rather than heed her warning they chose to mock her.

A woman on the LighterLife programme also died from this condition in 2008.

Hardcore exercisers can be prone to this condition as they may consume over and above safe levels of water during the span of a few hours due to their extreme exertion. It causes a problem in the function of the brain which causes swelling and basically squashes the brain against the person's skull.

I don't understand why the OP 'needs to see a doctor' because she is having her confidence undermined by he person who is supposed to love her.. I think he needs to see a doctor to ge his noggin straightened out..

Why can she not be happy being who she is? A successful individual who was confident being who she is before he started on this rubbish.

14 is lower than the national average (which is about 16 at the moment) it isn't huge or gross.. unless she is 4ft 6.. in which case he woul probably be harping on about how she should grow!

I do wonder if he has found someone at work he quite fanices who is thinner, fake tanned and has her hair done every 10 minutes and he is wantin to turn OP into this person instead..

Other than me thinking he is a total pig of course :p

it doesn't matter what the average weight is if we are all getting fatter. I am still at a bit of a loss as to why the OP's OH is so awful.

Not sure I have the energy for this but here goes...

do you smoke? drink? do drugs? overeat? binge on chocolate? live with someone who smokes? use a mobile phone? use a car? breate in air when you are outside? the list goes on.

I don't think the OP's original motivation in posting was how inconsiderate her partner is suggesting sun beds....

I don't smoke, I rarely drink, I don't 'binge' on anything but I do eat unhealthy foods from time to time.

Smoking and sunbed use have been proven beyond doubt to be dangerous, for absolutely no measurable positive benefit.

Have you ever seen somebody die of malignant melanoma?

He's in a seriously long relationship. He just is with someone who will never get fatter!! :D

I can hear you all now, spluttering into your afternoon glass of wine. Don't shoot the messenger, he really is with someone like that :rotfl:

He is also with someone who (like him) is obsessed with looking good and buying good clothes, also she would be on to him like a shot if he put any weight on.

I gave it 2 months. That was 10+ years ago :p

I wish them luck, but the bolded is physically impossible. Even if she currently has a condition that keeps her weight low that could change in the future.

Well I really do tip my hat to you in that case. I'm off now for my afternoon wine.

And I have had experience of people dying of cancer. People always assume that people who are "irresponsible" are just some young naive lucky people who have never had to witness death.

OP -- as I said earlier if you do get to a stage where you want to lose weight etc for YOU I wish you luck. It is very easy to get into an unhealthy rut food wise and to make less of an effort with appearance etc. I hope you find your confidence again x x

I don't assume you are young and naive, but I do assume you have never witnessed that specific cancer, as I cannot comprehend someone who has seen the worst effects of sun and sunbeds and still thinks its perfectly fine to use them.

Having said that, there are plenty of people out there who witness their relatives dying of lung cancer and pop out for a fag every few minutes so maybe people just don't make sense. Smoking is physically addictive though so a little bit more understandable.
