Its also the only legitimate method of updating Samsung firmware .
But over the air firmware updates are in trial and may well roll out soon .

Imo best music player is poweramp and if you want to search through your phones folders and sd card i recommend getting Astro which is free from the market.0

Hello,
Seems to be a lot of questions popping up about the Galaxy/Galaxy SII so maybe an idea to keep them all in one thread, possibly with tips or something for first time users.
Anyway, lovely phone but my question revolves around text messages on it.
1) When I send a text, if it is over three messages long it automatically converts to a MMS message, is there a way to stop this happening? I've been through the settings and found nothing.
2) Is there also a way that when I recieve a text, it shows up on the lock screen the sender and part of the message (like the iPhone does) rather than the Orange message box as it does at present
Other than that, it does seem like a great phone but texts seem to be the only thing I happen to do most and dislike most on the phone!0 -
Try powersms for showing you sms on the lockscreen.0

Hi lufcgirl
I've been speaking to one of our handset guys about this. It sounds like the long text issue you mention is part of the way the phone functions and isn't something that we are able to stop.
If you have "Display message notifications in status bar" ticked in your message notifications settings, the name of the sender and start of the message will flash up in the status bar briefly. I've been unable to find a way to make this stay on screen for longer.
It seems there may be third party applications which can be used to get around each of these issues, however, I'd be unable to recommend any specific examples to you.
I hope this helps a little!

I think an app called Handcent will get round the sms to mms issue. I've been using it for while now (not on the SII) and it works a treat (and is free on the market!). You call also get more wallpaper and fonts for it, also free !!
There's another called Widgetlocker that'll let you place things on the lock screen that might do what you want. My son uses it, but I haven't tried it yet.0 -
Not really a answer to your questions but if you go on youtube there is a reveiwer called Samjpullen and he has done lots of videos on the SG2, I picked up a few tips as like you its takes a while to learn how to do everything, that mms thing drives me mad!0

If it is something that Samsung have just created, then why do that?
It's crazy! Most people in the UK get a plan with unlimited free SMS and then pay 25p or so per picture message. I know people say the iPhone is restricted but at least it let me send a message more than 480 characters long without the need for MMS or a third party app. I tried downloading Handcent but it just looked wrong. Like pixellated (if thats a word) and very child like.
I just think it should be something that all phones should do. I shall never assume again!0 -

I've noticed that I don't get a day out of it and seem to be charging at every possible opportunity. That with the display turned to low brightness, wi-fi and GPS off (main battery killers). And I don't use the phone that much, well when it's not on charge I don't. I can have an hour long call and the phone will easily go from 100% to 60-70%.0
