May be it's just no 3g signal where you are?
Re Hotmail, I am no expert, but I think you have to change some setting in your account to have the new e-mails 'pushed' to your mobile and see them arriving without refreshing the webpage.0 -
Hotmail will be set up with POP settings. When messages are downloaded first time to the phone - they are marked as unread automatically.
That is how POP email works.
It is better instead with something like Hotmail to not use the email app on the mobile but instead login to hotmail via the web browser. This will show unread and read emails.
The wifi settings - your bro needs to sort that out by enabling access for your mobile to that router through the mac address of the mobile. He must have removed it from router. Or have you checked that Wifi is turned on, on the mobile.0 -
I thought about there not being any signal but OH is also on Tmobile and he gets 3G signal on his Nokia??
I'm still searching on the interentI'm useless with this sort of thing!

I think your phone is set to use Wifi - and you have no access to Wifi because of the router.
So you need to switch the phone to use 3G signal.
In the HTC wildfire - another android - this can be done by pressing the power key once and a menu appears and in there are connectivity settings - where you can switch from Wifi to 3g.
Now the Samsung Galaxy S being Android too should have similar mechanism.
Also make sure Wifi is turned off if you want to use 3G.

As expected I need some help please!
Bit of a background, we do have a wireless router at home but I can't connect to it with my phone as my brother installed the router and did something so that you can't even find it as an available network (don't ask me why!) so I'm currently using a neighbours open network to connect to the internet.
In the router you need to uncheck the option called "Hide SSID" or similiar.
You also need to stop using your neighbour's network as unless you have their permission to do so you are breaking the law, even if they have left it unsecured.
If you are a nice person you should also tell your neighbour that their network is unsecured and that they need to sort it out asap.0 -

Right, firstly, if the phone is using Wi-Fi it turns the 3G data connection off, there's no point having both on at the same time as it'll waste battery. When you turn the Wi-Fi off it should switch back to using 3G if the phone is set to use mobile data.
Check this by going to Menu -> Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks and checking that there is a tick next to "Use packet data", if there isn't a tick press so there is one.
Next, go to "Access Point Names" and check that the settings your network sent you are there and are correct. You can tell when mobile data is being used as there will be a logo next to the signal level which will be two arrows with a letter above, the letter being either H (indicates you're using HSDPA, which is like 3G+), 3G, E or 2G
Now, as for your home Wi-Fi, it sounds like your brother has set router to not broadcast the SSID, this is actually a good security precaution as it prevents any one that doesn't know the name of the network from connecting (like, say neighbours that want some free internet). So first off you're going to have to find out what your brother called the network, and also what sort of encryption he set and the key. The encryption will either be WEP (bad), WPA (better) or WPA2 (best) and the key will be a password of some description (hopefully a mix of letters (upper and lower case), numbers and punctuation characters).
Once you've got this information, go back to the "Wireless and networks" menu and then go to "Wi-Fi settings", scroll to the bottom and press "Add Wi-Fi network", enter the network name (case sensitive) in the "Network SSID" box, choose what sort of security it is in the drop down box and then enter the password and hopefully, it should all connect successfully0 -

If I could thank you ten times for that post I would :j:j:j

The problem with our router is that no one can remember what password we used, it's been about 4 years since we installed it, am guessing that there's no way of finding out?
Thanks so much for your help, really appreciated :beer:Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -

If you can log into the router settings (usually by entering 192.168.0.1 or whatever IP address your router has into a web browser) then it might tell you there, or you might be able to reset the password. Otherwise you'll have to reset it to factory settings and set it all up again0 -
Hi guys and gals.
My Samsung Galaxy S is playing up.
I used it last night as normal, everything was working fine, switched it off as usual. This morning I've turned it on and can't access any of my apps, I keep getting a message saying "the application XXXXXX has stopped unexpectedly, please try again" and a button saying force close. I've also had some weird goings on, text messages from T mobile saying welcome to T mobile, (which I had when I first had the phone), and when I try to go into the Ebay app it's running setup as well (asking me which country I'm in before I get the force close message).
I can however get on the internet via the icon on the screen.
Can anyone help me to fix this? I'm not very technically minded so if you could be gentle with me that's be much appreciatedSometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0
