Thank you everyone, I'll have to read everything when I get hone as I'm busy at the house with te builder and plasterer. Internet on phone and limited connection. But-update;
Magnet have called back and offered a deal of similar stature-units, worktops, appliances for 7.6k. I need to see all the details, but again it is sign tomorrow style!!! More inclined with this at the mo."The future needs a big kiss"0 -
This was a busy thread earlier - must be the Friday feeling now!
So just to bump this up a bit, Magnet have contacted me as I mentioned earlier and basically want to do a deal for all the units, worktops and appliancces - so pretty much like for like with Homebase. Totalling 7.6k. They want me to sign tomorrow - pressure again.
The appliances are AEG, which I need to have a look at, but sounds quite decent.
Appliances include:
AEG X69453MVO Oven hood (a bit fancy - might change that)
AEG HG755440SM 5 Gas Burner
AEG DE4003000M Double Oven
AEG F34030VI0 Dishwasher
Whirlpool WSF5511S SXS American Fridge Freezer
Caple WI3113 300mm Drinks cooler
Think they must have forgot the washing machine though we did discuss it on the phone!
Andrew-B, I think my budget for the kitchen units and appliances is pretty much 7 to 7.5k. That excludes the tiling and fitting. Which I will do later. Oh - I also get your point about the Breakfast bar now - you mean literally put it on the other wall - i.e. next to the sink? I might consider this. The lucky thing about that breakfast bar being on top means I could actually try it on both sides before fixing it down (well depending on the appliances being next to it etc).
Bearing in mind I have no appliances already - not one.I was VERY niave when I first started looking at kitchens, thinking they would be a few grand as advertised on TV, I was so silly about the appliances.
Incidentally he also thinks I need a 300 larder unit by the garage door to allow the USA FF open.
The hunt for the new kitchen continues..."The future needs a big kiss"0 -
Bite their hands off! sounds like a good deal to me. The new AEG gear is really good. Only bit I might have some reservations on is the Whirlpool AFF. Not the best brand but probably included to keep the price down.
Myself, I would also probably pay a couple of hundred more also to upgrade the Dishwasher to the F5502VIOP as the base model included in the quote is a bit noisy.
Magnet kitchen vs Homebase for same price! No contest.0 -
Sorry, busy having fun on Holiday.
Personally, I'd snap their hand off! With regards to the dishwasher, it wouldn't be a couple of hundred more to upgrade, the one they have quoted is on offer at £318, which makes it a good deal. 8db isn't worth an extra £350 or so if you ask me.
There is a washing machine on offer too, £500-something, well worth looking at! The oven, hob and hood are part of a pack, so you wont save anything by changing the hood, more than likely add more on!
And tell the designer that as long as there is a 100mm filler at the end, you wont need the larder unit, Meeps told you soIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Pleased ya having a nice time off Meeps!...though equally chuffed ya back on here to help me!! lol

Meeps, some other q's:
The USA FF, it doesn't have the features of the ice and water dispenser. I *think* when I was in the showroom he mentioend something about a free FF? Or maybe that was the TV? (which I'm not fussed about). I could ask them to remove it from the price and source another one?
I've been looking for comparison sites to compare the features of the appliances - really difficult, other than having to read about each item on different sites, and then I just forget it all.
Incidentally the worktops are iroko.
ps I sent your designs over to them, and told them I had someone in another Magnet helping me to design it.
pps Is there 'sign on the line tomorrow' another pressure strategy, similar to Homebase?"The future needs a big kiss"0 -

That sounds ok to me.
Do you know the model by any chance? Is it a washer / dryer? I'm sure (or at least very hopeful) that they have included a washer in the price?! Coming to terms with the hood - online it's quite a lot more than a Bosch one for price!
I can't remember it off the top of my headBut it is a washer, not a washer/dryer...
I might ask him to pop out (well I already mentioned it to him), so he could look at the design properly in my kitchen. Then he can see the space to the door etc. I don't actually mind having the lada style unit, but it might save me some money by taking it off? He seemed to think it needs 250mm clearance for the door?
250mm? !!!!!!?

Personally, I'd ditch the Whirlpool one, however, it's being given away free at the moment, so I'd be inclined to take it and sell it, then put the money towards a better model!

To be honest, the new AEG range is a huge step up from where it was a couple of years ago, can you not ask them to send you out an AEG brochure? The standard appliance brochure is pretty poor, you need the dedicated AEG one really.
Incidentally the worktops are iroko.
I think they are nicer than Ash. Certainly a warmer colour with more going on.

Not a problem, that's what it's there for after all. I know they wont give you a detailed breakdown until you deposit, but it would also be handy to see exactly what they have included.

Just ignore any pressure tactics, everyone uses it and it's a load of erm...you get the idea...As long as you decide by next Saturday, they will honour the deal (that's when the offers finish and yes, they DO finish, the free appliances, appliance packs etc get wiped from the system and margin levels are changed)
Phew, think that covered everything? If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

It sounds like you have your kitchen but for what it is worth, a third person at work said Ikea are good. This chap installs kitchens himself.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Just when you'd thought you'd finished for the night...
I do think I'd like a washer dryer. They're handy things. I'll have to ask, as the Homebase one was one.
Yeah, or maybe it was 200 degrees to open properly? I was VERY busy when they called and had to hide from my builders, in the attic for some peace and quiet!! heh
Like I say - I don't mind having the lada in if needs be.
Hmmm - the USA FF...wonder if I can upgrade here somehow? Maybe ditch the lada, upgrade the USA FF? Or...I could do as you say. Any recommendations?
I do have a breakdown in a .jpg format - I could send you if you like? Could be worth checking over to see if they've missed anything.
It's not next Saturday they want me to sign - it's tomorrow! I really don't feel ready to commit to it just yet as I do want to check everything. Having said that I have paid to access some of my savings which I want to put towards the purchase (CHAPS or the BACS one - always forget which one) already. So I am serious to get moving.
Buying sometime this week would be good for me, just want some more time. I'll still go over and see them tomorrow.
What's your general opinion on the appliances meeps? I'll ask for a AEG brochure when I'm there too.

I HATE washer dryers. If you do a full load of washing, you have to take half of it out before you can dry it, complete waste of time in my opinion. Plus they are never as economical as stand alones.

That would be a good option. You could probably get the Electrolux one (which is essentially based on the old AEG one) by dropping the larder and the Whirlpool.

Yeah, that would be good, I'll compare it on Monday for you, I'll PM you my email address

You haven't got till tomorrow, you've got until next Saturday, the 27th. Ignore the pressure tactics, just tell them straight, you need a couple more days to make sure it's what you want. Maybe add in that you want me to check it through too.

I really like the new AEG appliances, as I said, they are a lot better than they were a couple of years ago. Not up to the standard of Neff or Siemens, but certainly on a par (if not slightly better) with Bosch.

That make sense??If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
