i'm looking for a new kitchen too, personally i wouldnt touch the homebase kitchens as i just dont think the quality is that good. i'm just getting info at the mo, going to get a couple of our small independent kitchen places to quote for me as well as ikea. i have an ikea kitchen at the mo and have been very pleased with it, maybe worth getting a quote off them as well?'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

Anyone but Homebase! Try Wickes (similar quality to Magnet but probably price depending on range) Ikea (best of the cheaper options), if you are not too far away from one, or if you know someone in the trade Benchmarx or Howdens. B&Q Cooke and Lewis not bad either, though avoid the IT kitchens. Wren also good quality for the price point, but service from branch to branch varies wildly by all accounts.
Dont be pressured by salesman in sheds. Offers are like buses, there is always another one along in a minute. Do you really think you will get a worse deal on a Bank Holiday weekend than now! I think not.
Do not go solely on price, Homebase are normally the cheapest but the cheapest for a good reason. Their carcasses and door quality is lower than anyone elses.
Most sheds do a range of finance deals, though 3-5 years IFC is thinner on the ground than it was a year ago.0 -
You mentioned that Homebase said you had until Sunday to decide and pay. My guess is that's just sales talk. My past experience with other retailers is that the price will be the same after the deadline, although it may have to be santioned by the branch manager. I suspect that Homebase will be the same.
In fact, in these troubled times you may even get a phone call if you don't sign the contract offering you an even better price!0 -
Thanks everyone.
Well it looks like everyone says don't do the Homebase.I really don't know if they will hold the deal later than this Saturday. Their original price was £9.5k, so tgetting it down to this I can't see anyone beating.
They had the kitchen manager, the store manager and rang the regional manager who gave me the 'deadline' of tomorrow. If only Magnet could get closer to the price!!!! ARRRRGH! Hoping Magnet will call today.
I don't know what to say to Homebase to stall some time. Really don't want to kick myself in the end - either way.:o:o

It could well be a pressure marketing trick to get you to sign there and then. Car dealers use a similar trick. You go in and negotiate a deal. The salesman is your friend, and will do his best to get a good deal from his boss. He disappears to speak to 'his boss', and comes back and explains that he did his best, but the boss won't quite stretch to the deal, but here's what he can do ... It's all smoke and mirrors to get you to sign. I do not know if your experience is like that, but I would assume it is. They might even ring you back and offer you a better deal after the deadline. And of course double glazing salesmen are notorious for deadline scams, and ringing the 'boss' to see what deal they can get.
What about independent kitchen shops near you? Does that £7.5K include appliances? If not then I suspect you could do something for that price. If you are in the south, then try Manor Cabinet. Shops are listed on the web site.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -

there is a reason they're putting you under a lot of pressure, maybe they're desperate for sales?
don't be pushed or rushed into it - you will live with this kitchen for a few years and if its not right it will irritate you every day (or it would me)'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
what range/style of kitchen is it, Do magnet trade do it. It will be cheaper, a 7.5k trade kitchen at my local magnet would be a weeks turnover they would chew my arm off to get the sale.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I think you'll regret homebase.
why can't you shop online for appliances/worktops etc?
Another vote for Ikea, we've got to do our kitchen, potentially it will be wicks/benchmarx, or Ikea.
We never even looked at homebase (I hate that shop)0
