Unless you're really going to care for the wood on a very regular basis, I wouldn't risk it. It's that end grain where water can really get sucked up and turn it black and totally ruin it. I'd have a nice, chunky overmount instead (just like meepsters pic!)
It's my preference to have an undermount but I wouldn't do it with wood.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I didn't think you'd want to spend a grand on a cooker hood, looks cool though, right?
Meeps - in the unit with the oven(s), does the draw pull out under and above or are they cupboards? Also - is there an opening cupboard above the USA FF?
Yes, it's a deep drawer under the oven, which also has an internal drawer.
What's people's opinions of a built under sink? I like the idea of it, though just think about the water and grime build up between the bowl and the wood.
With wood? Not a chance. As Doozer says, you'd be better going for a nice-looking inset sinktyperactive wrote: »Yeah - I know exactly what you mean. Hmmm...is there no other unit we could use? Or storage system? What about a soft closing pull and swing corener unit somehow?
Yeah, you could go for an offset-corner unit and have either a magic corner or a Le Mans (twin corner) unit, but you also need to consider cost. Putting a mechanism in there will triple the cost of the unit. It would also need a slight design tweak, but that's not too much of a problem.
I agree about the smaller drawers under the hob - they'd be most handy for cutlery and bits and bobs. Are they literally the only options? I see the 'blumotion internal drawer system' looks like it has more internal drawers - though perhaps these are the height of two drawers together?
The internal drawer sustem is good, but only if you are wanting to stick with ligh-line units, and not drawers. They are also more expensive than a normal drawer pack.
Whilst I agree I need some deep drawers for big pans and woks etc, I would like the option of a few drawers / compartments within the drawers if you get what I mean?
You can get internal dividers or specific racks to fit inside the drawers. Have a look on the blum website: http://www.blum.com/gb/en/index.php
Well I was thinking perhaps 3k for appliances - not really sure. I'd like a USA FF with ice and drinks dispenser - be willing to look at recommendations and suggestions.
I think you might be struggling for 3k for all the appliances you need. YOu need:
Built in double oven
Hob
Hood
USA F/F
Dishwasher
Washing machine
Anything I missed?

Meeps,
Another designer has threw in the idea of a 300mm pull out lada between the FF and the door. This would sort any worries of opening the FF. To compensate they have reduced the last draw to a 700. Would that fit in the dimensions I have given you? I've just had the opposite wall (where the breakfast bar is) built up, so I'll need to double check my measurements.
Here is the plan they have supplied:
I'll have to check I've given them the same/correct measurements!!! lol ugh - so many things to sort out with all this house renovation stuff!
If it's possible to fit - I think it's a good idea."The future needs a big kiss"0 -
I hate 300 units of any description. They are total gap fillers - expensive ones. No one chooses a 300 unit because they really want one.
My advice is to look at the individual prices of these objects and decide then if it's what you want. When you see the price that a pull out adds to the useless 300mm larder you might make a slightly more informed decision about whether it is what you want. None of these pull out, swing type gadgets really add any space , they might make it slightly more practical but when you're talking the same price as a washing machine just for the innards, it focusses the mind a bit more!
I'd opt for the 40mm you've got kicking around, against the wall and have a filler piece in there so the fridge is away from the wall but tidy. Part of a length of kickplate and a decent chippie will sort that out. The american !!!!!! stick so far forward of the units, there's no chance of them clashing. Rehang that big door, wherever it goes, so it opens out of the room and there's no danger of them clashing either! Cheaper than a pointless 300 unit.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I hear what you're saying about the 300 unit. and you may be correct about nobody REALLY wanting them. Though it would solve that problem with the garage door.
The garage door can't be opened in the other direction as I've already lengthened the garage to get the car in the garage, and it must open into the kitchen, as it would hit the car the other way round! lol"The future needs a big kiss"0 -

How do you open the car door then if the garage door would hit the car if it were hung the other way around?!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My car backs onto that wall. So there is space to walk down either side of the car, and round the back of the car into the kitchen. Easiest way to picture it would be: open the kicthen door, and the boot of the car is the first thing you would see (but enough distance to get past). Nice and handy (in theory) for unloading my shopping!"The future needs a big kiss"0

My biggest concern would be that you have 3 x 800mm units and 1 x 700mm unit, it just wont look balanced. It messes with the symmetry...
I'm also with Doozergirl on the 300mm larder. Yes they look fancy, yes it's easy to get at everything, but the unit just tripled in price and you don't get THAT much benefit from it.
(Oh and he should really be inserting a small filler to the LHS of the larder, otherwise the door might not open properly)

Cool Meeps - I'll give it some thought. I did think about the odd 700 unit in there actually, though being under the b-bar it would probably never be noticeable. Didn't really think about the cost though!
I guess it may help once the new door is installed to see the sizes. I've popped into the neighbours who has the same setup and it works well. Fully open the door will touch the fridge, so just needs to be handled with care really.
More thinking to be done! heheh"The future needs a big kiss"0 -
Ok - dilemma.
So, anyone that has been reading my posts will know I'm looking for a new kitchen. Just as Meepsy has very kindly designed.
I'm waiting on exact confirmation from Magnet of the cost of this kitchen, as Meepster has actually been most help for everything - more than my local store! We summise it will be around 10k for the units, worktops (timber) and appliances.
Though I have just managed to get a price from Homebase on their variant to include all the same, for the grand total of £7,400 (not fitted).
Now, in my heart I know this kitchen from Magnet will be a better quality (as a general consensus from reading on here). Though it's a lot more money, which my budget just can not hit. Is homebase really that bad? Are there any success stories? Can a homebase kitchen be fitted by a great joiner to look and last the part?
I spoke to my builder friend today who's kitchen looks nice and feels solid - his was a flat pack B&Q.
I'm hoping Magent can try to get close to the price, but I know they can't give it away! I already I accept I have expensive taste and want the world for a small budget (who wouldn't).
Homebase say to buy the kitchen I have until Saturday to decide and pay.
Any advice? I'm stressed! lol I never want to buy a kitchen again (well unless I have lots of money)."The future needs a big kiss"0
