Wetherspoon Meals Beware!

  • Wetherspoons buy all their food from one catering wholesaler - unfortunately most of the food they buy is the from the 'value' end of the range.

They do have to cook it though, and this is probably where the variances come into play.

Personally, I have never had a bad meal at a Wetherspoons.
  • Well my husband and I were in Liverpool a few weeks back and had an absolute horrid time in the Wetherspoons (forgoten the name now). The service was really slow and nobody smiled, the tables were not getting cleared and wiped (not at rush hour this was about 2:30), the cutlery was dirty so had 4 attempts at changing it till I had some clean ones.
When the food did arrive the plates were just dropped on the table and the staff walked off. It was not warm, complained and they said that it had been cooked for a while and been left standing as they were busy (not!!). 4 more tables around us complained about their food and got bad responses.
When we came home I emailed the company via their website and told them of our experiance, telling them that this now put me off ever entering one of their places again.
They have replied and said that they were pleased that I had got in touch and told them, they have since sent inspectors out to have a look, mystery shoppers and they all said as I had so they are sending all the staff on a trainning day and will keep an eye on them.
So I think it pays to complain. If I pay only £1:00 for something I expect to enjoy it!

Well, I like Wetherspoons! Okay everything comes out of the freezer in little bags which are all in portion sizes......you basically get the same number of chips/peas etc., every time you visit. Its either their freezer or mine...I am no gourmat cook, always filling and cheap. The Gatehouse in Highgate,North London it very nice pub with great atmosphere. Great places for students to get a hot meal which won't break the bank. Friends love the Breakfasts.Coffee and cake is good and beats paying Costalotta and Starbuck prices.

  • I mysteryshopped this chain for about 5 years and I can honestly say that even eating between 1 and 5 meals there every month, I have not had a really nice meal once! Most of it is usually left on the plate at the end of the visit and both my hubby and I have had food poisoning on at least 5 occassions..... Needless to say, I have given up MSing there and would NEVER choose to visit such a place - cheap or not. The food is on a par with the cheapest, nastiest products from the likes of Farmfoods or Iceland!

Why is this in "shop but don't drop"?

With so many readers reporting food poisoning after eating at Weatherspoons, I would say "Shop but don't DROP" is the ideal place for this thread!!!!

Besides, it's a great money saving tip - DON'T EAT AT WEATHERSPOONS!!!

I have worked at Wetherspoons and there is definitely not much cooking going on in the kitchen ;) Like with all ready meals you get to know which things survive the freezing/reheating process best - Wetherspoons chilli and tomato-ey pastas are normally not bad.

    That's what I thought. thanks spiddy100.

Had vouchers for Weatherspoons recently and three of us had fish & chips and a drink for just over £10. The food was hot and very good with light crispy batter and a generous portion of fish. Especially good now that smoking is banned!
