First it was single mothers, then 'hoodies' now Indian call centres are the root of all evil in our society.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
Then check your account:
LATEST GARAGE TO BE HIT:Now police have confirmed that a "substantial number" of drivers using the Shell garage in Reigate Road could have also been targeted.
This week Surrey Police urged motorists to remain vigilant by checking bank details and report suspicious activity.

Hi
i don't think it is relevant where the tesco call centre is, but I have just been phoned by Tesco fraud. My card has been used at a number of telecommunications places - total £900. The thing is this card hasn't been used by me for nearly 3 months. The last time it was used was for Tesco DVD and one of the fraudulent transactions on my card was for tesco mobile.
To my mind Tesco are cropping up too often for coincidence.
Other than a breach in a secure set up I really can't see how they could have got my details. TEsco were vague and did say they could have just tried numbers until they got some that worked, but that seems far fetched.
I am concerned that other accounts may be compromised. I have enough on at the mo without this and am still shaking.0 -

i'm suprised you've been told that, usually something which is kept quiet. i can't tell you how exactly its done put there is a way of calculating credit card numbers then changing the last x number of digits until the card works (all card numbers are worked out mathmatically depending on the card issuer except from 4 digits which determine the individual card number so all you need to know is for example a mastercard begins with 5 then tesco cards have numbers xxxxxx which will work out to a certain code then just keep trying the last 4 till you get a match). i'm assuming the retailer who the fraud was done with was T mobile? if so you only need certain information to be able to process a transaction. its a popular way to get card details as it can be done by computor or by getting the math information from a certain website and it costs next to nothing to do. so its entirely possible that it was done that way. tesco mobile and dvd have nothing to do with the credit card centre. and i assume you've used it other places in the past? if so any fraudster with a brain will wait as long as possible to do the fraud so they can distance themselves from it. i can assure you that the tesco credit card centre is virtually foolproof there are so many checks done that fraud by staff is very difficult and even so all staff are checked out and are usually all very trustworthy.0 -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Credit_card_numbers lists who's got which starting numbers. I'm unaware of any lists of numbers that equates to your xxxxx, though I don't doubt they exist somewhere.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -

It's a bit more restrictive. Mastercards start with 51, 52, 53, 54 or 55
Maybe not quite that simple

Thank you paul herring interesting reading- I didn't know that. Don't patronise people RCA- I think you will find that most MSE'rs are above average intelligence.
It has elements of one of those silly number games we played as children with birthdates and names to discover our 'soul mate'.
As if to prove I have brains enough to understand mine is 70, clearly divisible by 100 -
Have been contacted by Nationwide that almost £3000 has been taken from my visa card, all done by "cardholder not present" transactions,my wife nagged me for ages to get a Visa card, after this is sorted out,the true balance is getting cleared and the account closed, have reduced the overdraft balance on my nationwide visa debit card to £50 just in case though not 100% confident.I have no confidence in the security of credit/debit cards at all now and will be returning to a no frills bank account very soon.I have a deep burning indifference0

Ok fair enough I didn't realise that you worked for TEsco(RBS?), but you are anon. I gather from your other posts that Tescos have a problem at the moment.
I think it would help people to know, in vague terms, how the fraud has been perpetrated. I was shaking for a good hour afterwards and it has made me overreact about other things all day.0
