No it's not. ATM's (in this country) look for the presence of a chip.
Chip and Signature is not going to protect you from this any more than Chip and Pin. Simply because the clone doesn't have a chip, nor is the chip required for a transaction.
I'd guess a cloned CNS card looks much the same as a cloned CNP card. Neither will have a chop.
Now tell me again how CNS saves you from this hassle?
I think you may find that at the last count last November only 1 in 4 ATMs were built to the spec you suggest (source BBC).One victim discovered he had been hit when his bank contacted him to query four withdrawals of £350 a time in Kent. (February 2007 - source Daily Record)If you caught Watchdog you may have noticed that cards were cloned on an industrial scale (and PINs harvested), the counterfeit cards used were old phone cards. It's all about reducing risk. Cloning a PIN free card means they have to produce something that passes the scrutiny of retail staff. Cloning a PIN based card and using the PIN means they can stand and feed card, after card, after card into an ATM (yes at home and abroad) without fear of being caught.
When are you BINning your PIN Paul?0 -

My local public house does not posess a payment method that includes a card (of any sort. Since we're getting rid of cheques, they're not a viable method either.)
I highly suspect the local shops would refuse a cashback request of anything over £50. I certainly don't envisage going in there for a 30p loaf of bread, saying "by the way, could I have £200 cashback?" and having my request satisfied. Wildly extrapolating this, and verging on hyperbole myself, how long before cashback starts getting routinely refused because everyone is doing this?
Accessing a physical bank during working hours is virtually impossible, and certainly wouldn't be convenient nor 'free.' (Petrol costs, loss of lunch 'hour' (not that I actually get an hour for my lunch.))
Now James, is there a method of obtaining beer tokens that I've forgotten?Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
I used a new card for the first time online,I only spent 24 pounds, when the bill came in it was for over £4500, all in $20 bets to an online casino. Also the person responsible paid for two web domains to be registered which I couldnt cancel my name being related to them despite them being about subject matter which I was totally upset about.Thay were registered for three years in my name despite my protest.
The person responsible was traced back to Afghanistan would you believe and I was told that nothing would be done about this person, the bank, Bank of Scotland did refund the money to my account within a few weeks.I am very careful now where I shop online and make sure I have sufficient security .0 -

My Tesco card was hit for hundreds (no statement or letter to sign yet). Was without my card for a week until they sent a new one, I have to suspect Tesco Card themselves as I spoke to what sounded like an Indian call centre of theirs a couple of days prior to the problems.
I use a cross cut shredder and have a secure PC. I have used a petrol station in last couple of months but the timing is suspicious!
Tesco did call before Xmas to check I had been making the transactions (many varied online ones) which I confirmed I had. When the fraud stopped my card working they didn't call me and I wonder if it was because they didn't realise it was fraud until my fairly low credit (I pay it off every month and don't require a high one) limit was reached.0 -

Detectives are investigating complaints made to police about card cloning.
Mr Keen feels the thefts show that chip and pin technology is not as resistant to fraud as some claim.
