A quick visit. Funnily enough I've just printed 124.

No Paul, just ask Lloyds. My other half has one of these cards.

Another option is to use a banks own savings card, i.e. one that doesn't come with a Visa, MasterCard etc logo.

These work in most ATMs. Just transfer small amounts in and out of your account as required.

It may have occured to readers of this thread that Thousands of Accounts and PINs have been compromised.

Surely if a card issuer is aware that someone has used their card in a compromised ATM or PIN entry device in a Garage or Shop, then they should at least contact the cardholder and advise them to change their PIN. Or opt for Chip & Signature.

got done 71quid last month (online betting site), CC is still looking into it,. called up and cut my card off,.

I would'nt use my card at a petrol station,. End of, pay by cash, as the 2 above posts show
  • I found out yesterday, that someone had accessed my play.com account and had ordered themselves £240 of xbox and PS3 games using my debit card. They also managed to change all my login details, email address etc :(

I'm absolutely gutted about it, the first 2 people at play.com that i spoke to were horrible and wouldnt tell me anything, but after the 3rd attempt i got a name and delivery address.

Have cancelled my card with the bank, my play.com account is frozen and i spent last night filling in forms at the local police station.

I am always so careful with my details, so have no idea how it happened. All I know now is I feel exposed and I don't like it.

Good luck to all of you who have had similar problems, I hope everything gets sorted out

THE NUMBER of victims of a major credit card scam in Hastings continues to rise.

Used your card at the locations mentioned - check your statements.

    From The Banking Code [Gist]

What to do if someone else knows your PIN.

    The Banking Code article 12.7.

It is essential that you tell us as soon as you can if you suspect or discover that someone else knows your PIN.

Shouldn't card issuers reciprocate by telling you that your PIN may have been compromised if you've used your card at one of the mounting number of locations mentioned in this forum?

This would give consumers the option of opting for Chip & Signature Credit Cards or Changing their PIN immediately.

Lots of people use the same PIN.

Some more practical advice for people worried about CC fraud than just "binning that PIN": Credit Card Skimming on the Rise
The use of ‘skimmed’ credit card details, where crooks copy the magnetic strip from credit or debit cards by fitting an electronic ‘reader’ in a chip and PIN terminal rose in 2006 by three per cent.

Worryingly, card fraud abroad rose by a staggering 43 per cent last year, where the use of chip and PIN is not so developed. It is believed there is a strong link between ‘skimmers’ and the use of fake cards abroad.

The use of a single credit card for high risk retailers such as petrol stations and restaurants, which traditionally have been targeted by fraudsters, won’t stop you falling victim, but it will make it much easier and quicker to spot any dodgy transactions on your monthly statement, and to clean up the mess afterwards.[advert paragraph removed]

A big advantage of using a single card for purchasing petrol and paying for meals out is it will also make it easier to prove to your card provider or bank that you did not make a fraudulent purchase. It shouldn’t be very hard to prove you didn’t buy some very expensive designer shades in Malaysia, just two hours after you used your card in your local filling station!
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

    Paul,

Great in theory, but I'm sure many readers who've had their card blocked when abroad can relate to a quite common message from their card issuer.

"Have you got another card you can use?"

Wouldn't you agree that card issuers have a duty of care to inform cardholders at the first opportunity that they (card issuer) suspects their PIN may have been compromised?
