Wouldn't you agree that card issuers have a duty of care to inform cardholders at the first opportunity that they (card issuer) suspects their PIN may have been compromised?
Indeed. And some of them do. Egg for example. I've had a few calls of them questioning transactions made on my card.
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

I've just checked my online credit card statement, and discovered that two days ago, three transactions were made - for £800, £550 and £700. A total of £2050 has been taken, under the transaction details 'C/CARD OPS COLLECTIONSSOUTHEND ON S'.

I've blocked my card, but must wait till tomorrow morning before I can speak to their fraud department.

In the meantime I'm terrified that something will go wrong and I'll be charged for it!

There was actually a report in January which said they had discovered the security breach in December!

    Hi James,

Keep up the good work. I heard that "You and Yours" on Radio 4 at lunchtime on Thursday; It also had some breaking news about Dixons Group getting turned over by a 10 million fraud. Something to do with what we know here as Pixmania.

    http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,2045259,00.html

Trevor MacDonald on ITV will be going over the same sort of ground on the box next week.

It has been a bad week for fraud, the numbers make the Great Train Robbers, of my childhood, look like the nuckle dragging amateurs most of them were.
Global fraud is safer, more profitable and cleaner for the scumbags. Meanwhile the plods seem to be getting nowhere; can anybody think of a high profile trial of these multi million crimes ?

    Regards,

    John.

    Hi Paul,

Have you been done over yet ? Believe me, it sort of sensitises you to the whole out of control business. Now everytime I hear a bank spokesperson saying how much they have cut THEIR fraud losses, it sounds like echoes of George & Tony talking about winning in Iraq 18 months ago.

If and when it happens to you, expect this sort of experience:

In fairness to Egg, I would expect citigroup (the world's largest bank ?) to be able to beef up Egg's fraud control and yes we did get 12 months of cash- back added to the account last month.

The thing that really bothers me, is how everyone involved regards fraud as an administrative chore and a chance to play pass the parcel and not recognise it for the civilisation sapping stinking crime it is.

    best wishes.

    John

PS At the end of my thread there is a link to an ongoing fraud, that those in authority seem reluctant to tackle.

HORDES of drivers have had thousands of pounds taken from their bank accounts after credit and debit card details were cloned at a petrol station

    Story here.

Check your statements, Bin your PIN.
  • Hi

I have been defrauded of just under £100 due to someone using an old debit card that my Bank neglected to cancel when I changed bank account! However what is more worrying is that I was tipped off by Dixons ( who I had just bought some goods from ) that someone was trying to buy a laptop from them using my address but with strange delivery details. It was then that I called the bank and they admitted the card was still live ( I had cut it up and thrown it away ).

Unbelievably though the fraudster has managed to buy £100 of goods from Amazon using a card that I had registered with them on my own account!!!! I am amazed that, probably the biggest online retailer in the UK, did not pick this up as a fraudulent transaction.

"It's not just Bourne End, we have had reports of people affected in Flackwell Heath and the Wooburns."

Concern has been growing in recent months there may be a huge problem in the area of credit cards being 'cloned' and accounts raided.

    Story here.
