Tesco Online Banking Inaccessible

  • Tesco Bank's online banking facility is out of action, and I believe has been so since the weekend. It seems that it was supposed to be back this morning but the logging in process did not work and they appear to have had to take it down again. They are supposed to be upgrading the security arrangements. There is no indication given as far as I can see as to how long this will go on and the call centre delivers a 'We are working hard to resolve..' type message but with no commitment on timing. In my view this is not good enough, especially for a bank that has aspirations to being a major player. Anyone who needs to access their money urgently could be in difficulties. We mostly have to use internet banking to obtain any kind of interest rate and yet instant access does not always mean that in practice.

    Sort it out, Tesco.

I spent one hour until I gor through they tried to tell me it was my computer's fault that I could not excess my account. I need to make a transaction so currently on hold for over half hour stilll no response, With calls at 5p a minute is Tesco going to compensate me, let alone for all the time I amn wasting, there are plenty of other accounts which pay the same interest

Payments in via FP's to my previous Linked Accounts, now designated as Third Party accounts are working fine, just having trouble getting money out.

From my experience they gladly take your money instantly but are reluctant to give it back to you!

Maybe trying to slow down the 'run on their bank' by customers who don't really (note i said 'really' as I do feel sorry for those who do genuinely need their money and cant get hold of it) need their money but are panicking and withdrawing it all due to the horror stories they have heard others are experiencing.

Tesco has the worst online banking experience ever.

I'm an IT manager, so pretty clued up on how to use computers I'd like to think. The only account I ever have issues with is Tesco. The stupid password rules and PIN lengths mean I have to have everything written down all the time. I locked myself out the other day, and nearly locked up my card reader.

I now need to urgently transfer out some money before I got on holiday tomorrow, I got stuck half way through the registration process and now just get an error. Now been stuck on hold for 20 minutes and have to go out in a minute!

That's interesting because I've had the feeling for some time that Tesco is not strong on IT. Their main supermarket/groceries site is irritating and slow and they have been unresponsive when we have questioned aspects of it. When I get a credit card bill from Tesco the payments in are described as "FP REJECTS" -- it's a small thing but to have something like that on papers that go out to customers conveys to me a lackadaisical and lazy attitude towards professionalism and customer face-off. Up to now the online banking site has been much better, but of course this new version is a total, unmitigated disaster.

Whether it's the same IT team that does it all who knows, but it does appear the Tesco has a blind spot where IT is concerned. Certainly in view of this latest fiasco the Tesco Chief Executive and the CEO of their bank should be giving their head of IT a performance report, and grilling him/her for answers and commitments as to how this shambles is going to get sorted out quickly and what steps are being taken to ensure that it could never happen again.

Glad you got sorted Ifs . Not before time. SO stressful. Im about to ring again now to try and get them again. Hope I get through leaving some time for them to deal with my problem before they close!
I emailed that Tweedle guy thats runningthe exec complaints dept at lunchtime, explaining I need 12k moved to my current account by Thurs night to fund a DD and asking if he could get someone to ring me as Id got through twice, and twice hadnt been rung back.

Surprise surprise, not even the courtesy of an acknowledgment email. I cant believe anyone at the top of a complaints dept hasnt got the nouse and people skills to at least ensure an immediate apologetic email goes out promising you will be contacted the same day and then to follow it up to make sure you are!!

Maybe the honest email contents might come as

Hi panicking customer- thanks for your email . You will be pleased to know Tesco has sorted out our systems now , but we just cant be ar*ed ringing customers back , weve had too stressful a day, and all these complaints are a real pain ! We might get round to ringing tomorrow if we can be bothered and have enough staff, but dont hold your breath because actually we couldnt give a */?!!**//!!!! so just s*d off and behave and wait till we get round to dealing with your stuff!!

I'm on the phone to them now to ask if they can add them on for me their end. Why they could not have moved my already set up linked accounts to the 'linked accounts' instead of the 'linked third parties' I don't know. It would save me having to post bank statements in to them for my various accounts that I want to set up in the 'Linked accounts' section.

Was thinking maybe FP's sent to linked account from 'third part account' list might have to go through more vigorous checks before they are forwarded on but having said that I don't really think it will make much of a difference as you say you sent a FP to a linked third party account and it went through OK (lucky you!). When I tried test payments, it takes over a day via FP's! Yesterdays FP is yet to land in my linked HSBC account.

My hunch is that it makes no difference whether your other accounts are linked accounts or third party linked accounts. But of course I have no way of actually knowing if different levels of security checks apply to transfers to linked and third party linked.

At the moment my Nat West (NW) account is set up as both linked and third party linked whereas my FD account is third party linked. Don't ask me why.

I have sent and received money from and to the NW and FD accounts successfully. The first payments out took about the same time at just over 2 hours each and the second payments out took about the same time at 5 minutes each (although haven't moved any money today). I think the incoming transfers were pretty quick.

I can't tell if my payment out to NW was to the identical linked or third party linked accounts!

I reckon the only difference is that you can pull money into a linked account via the Tesco website, but you can't pull money in from a third party linked account. In practice it is easier to log into NW or FD and send the money that way so it doesn't make any difference that you can't pull money in via the Tesco website.

I get the same message as everyone else about having to send in a bank statement if I want to set up a linked account as opposed to third party linked. Makes sense as otherwise you could presumably set up an account that wasn't yours and pull money in from that via the Tesco website.

On the browser front can access with firefox, opera and google chrome but all my transactions have been made while using firefox.

I don't think it pays to be honest with Tesco Bank at the moment, after all the Tesco spokesman was blatantly lying on Monday when he made the statement to the BBC that everything is fine and up and running again! What world does he live in?

I would not advise anyone to lie, but tell Tesco Bank a little porky you need the money for a deposit for a house purchase and you are exchanging contracts on such a such date, they might actually sit up and listen to your request then. It worked for me, as scheduled NBS can now collect the funds from my HSBC account on the 24th ;)!

Oooh, Im rubbish at stuff like that. I think my text would turn red if I even wrote it! You have to have a good memory to fib, and Id probably let myself down by referring later in the conversation to NBS !!! lol

Still sitting here with the phone and Tesco platitudes/music - 25 mins so far, so early days. Amazing how busy they still are seeing as how everything is 'fixed' and they even have extra staff!! ;)

As per my previous posts before (login crashed halfway through)

I am now able to login. (I have Chrome) I got all excited cos i saw a new screen. It says "Login to locked account.
Your account has one or more credentials locked. In order to continue with log-on we’ll need to confirm a few details and then you will be able to reset your security details".

It has my unique ID name correct but a blank image on the familiar greeting and image box. It says ......."Don’t see your familiar greeting and image?
Then call our helpdesk straight away. You can find their details on the contact us page - Do not enter your PIN and password".

The next box asks me for my new sort code. Is it their new Payee Sort Code (replacing 83-65-31) the same for all of us? If so can someone share it please?

It just gets worse and worse.

Any suggestions on how i can progress on this new screen of theirs gratefully received.I can't face another session of their musak/cheery recorded message AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN ETC. I'm sure you know where i'm coming from!!

In order to ensure stability of service for our on-line customers we have temporarily taken the site down to make some changes. We are working to have the site functioning again as quickly as possible.

Latest message showing on the site now, so at least theyre starting to acknowledge theres a real problem !
