The inordinate delay in so called faster payments coming through is another worrying feature.

So far this is the worst car crash of a disaster of its type that I have ever known regarding online banking -- a case study in how not to do it.

You're right, and amongst all my 'whinges' when I finally got through this afternoon I mentioned that.

I got the rather unapologetic response that FPs can take 'up to the end of the working day'.

This fails to acknowledge the 'Faster' element in the name and that their 'old' site did them instantly !

When pressed, they admitted they should take 'no more than 3 hours' - which I countered with the fact that mine were done more than 3hrs earlier today with no receipt at the destination a/c.

*** They had no answer and I was not holding my breath that the funds would EVER arrive, despite the debit from my Tesco a/c already been made BUT at just before 5pm the money has arrived at the other end !

    :)

Hurray for that at least, but still a backward step for the 'new' setup instead of what were meant to be 'improvements'...

{I'm rather enjoying this online rant/discussion but think I'll stop for now !]

I'm back with my money again!
Finally got through. They set my security questions and then I had to enter my new pin number. I then had to re- register again. Now, I will decide whether to leave it with them or not because they have got on my nerves: 1/ with this new mess of a shambles of login in, and, 2/ giving me a new interest rate when my year ran out, and I now find out it is lower then what a new customer gets. Is it goodbye Tesco or not?
  • It's been over six hours on the phone waiting for a response from Tesco

Re: New interest rate - that is better than 95% of banks with bonuses will do for you after a year.
Of the banks with no bonuses (eg nationwide esaver-plus), their interest rates are generally not as good as tesco, and/or they have stricter withdrawal limitations.

I am yet to find a better savings account with a decent rate that gets mostly renewed after a year.

The Tesco FP limit of £10,000 is also far higher than some banks (eg santander is particularly low, at £250?)

    Look before you leap ....

I have had the misfortune to open a Tesco fix rate saver account this week.
Very frustrating because online transactions which have apparently failed turn out to have gone through successfully.
Must be confusing for the Tesco staff.
Some of the waits to speak to a customer adviser have been trying, nearly an hour listening to the background music in one case.
    :(
  • After suddenly realising that I needed to update my Tesco login info and saved website on my AOL carousel (due to the old site repeatedly saying server error for the past 2 days) I appear to have updated my username and passwords with relative ease. I did clear my browsing history, saved passwords, cookies etc etc just to make sure AOL - which can be glitchy at the best of times - didn't have any old details stored.

I am a bit annoyed though as the short name on all my accounts (I have savings in trust for my children) just shows the type of account - ie internet saver migrated, monthly saver migrated with NO NAME. Previously they showed as Mrs J Bloggs ITF Master J . Now I've had to rummage in the under stairs cupboard for past statements to check which is which.

I've now realised you can change the shortname of the accounts by going into Other Services and selecting Update your account settings. But what a pain.

And I can't see any details of my Tesco credit card within the summary - so need to log into the creditcard online separate site for my balance. Progress???????

Dare I try a transfer of funds ?????? Think I'll leave it for a while

The faster payments are indeed taking until the end of the day, whereas with the old system it was usually almost instantaneous. Mine has now come through, thus clearing out the account. That's the end of me with Tesco Bank.

Everything that they have done seems to have deteriorated the product. I hear what people are saying about interest rates and the fact that some of other providers' websites and processes are not all that clever. But I'm not willing to risk putting up with this sort of thing again. It's not just their incompetence, it's their attitude that I don't like. If people don't vote with their feet in such situations then they won't really get the message that treating customers like this is completely unacceptable.

  • Could not access Tesco online banking using Internet Explorer or Google Chrome - Screens are blank or no response from clicking buttons.

Using Firefox everything works and faster payment made immediately to my bank account.

You will have to install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player first or you will get a message asking you to install it before proceding.
