Poppy19 I just had a thought. (ouch! :o) What about making one of those silly little quizzes where you just tick the Yes box or the No Box?

Did you want to have sex? Yes |_| No |_|

How old is the person you had sex with? |_| (Write a number in the box)

It might raise some new questions, but also might put your mind at rest on one or two things.

So you've known she's been pregnant for four days now, done not a great deal but pander to her every whim and still none the wiser on how she got pregnant or who the father is...

Come on OP, ive read through this thread everday and it seems like you are behaving more like one of her buddies than her mother.
Toughen up get the information out of her and get her to make a decision she's 15 and in the bloody mess she's in right now she needs you to be her mother and not her friend thats what other 15 year olds are for!

What on this planet makes anyone think its a good idea to pull a 15 year old out of school, its a stupid idea, year 10 and 11 are so important!

She might not appreciate it right now what teenager does like their parents getting tough on them? but she will thank you for it in the future.

I'll be bowing out of this thread now as its incredably frustrating and I doubt its legitamacy anyway or maybe this will be rebirth of jesus.

Eating disorders, addiction and and mood disorders (inc. depression) are indeed diagnosable medical conditions. Lack of motivation and anhedonia are symptoms not illnesses.

The majority of the time not fulfilling one's potential is far more of a tragedy to parents and middle class Guardian readers than it is to the young person themselves. Like many on this thread, you are mentally comparing the worst possible outcome of one scenario with the best possible outcome of another.

I wasn't actually comparing anything. I was replying to a post stating teenage pregnancy being a major disaster, which I don't think it is given other unfortunate scenarios such as drug addiction, anorexia etc (which I do know are illnesses, but it's clear not everyone does by the replies to that comment, hence my rhetorical question.)

Despite appreciating some of the points/statistics you raised, I'm not sure I agree with the comment about Guardian readers (surely it would be more like the Times anyway?) because my experience has been that parents are usually incredibly proud of their children even if they do not reach their potential, ie proud as punch about nothing special in the slightest. It comes with the territory I think. In fact, the so-called congratulatory posts on this thread support this general observation.

Clinics were busy because they weren't open for long hours. The London hospital clinics I know were open only a couple of times a week in the late 60s/early 70s, now they're open 4 1/2 days a week.

The rates of STDs doubled in the decade 1991-2001 and now are considered to have reached record levels.

I was living in another large city, the clinic was open every day and we all knew it as there were signs in the public loos giving times and a number to call. I am surprised London had such a poor service.

It VERY easy to get pregnancy tests - you can get them in poundland, free testing at youth centre, connexions, schools, buy them in the supermarket etc etc. I wouldn't say it takes an particular 'cunning' to hide this from her mum. Afterall she managed to hide having sex from her!

I did one of my preganacy tests in McDonalds toilets...
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Abuse? Oh my word you are easily offended arent you?

What is so abusive about the post Oldernotwiser? Tell me , is it more abusive than you have been?

You really need to get your facts straight before you go running telling tales lol

You might want to give me an example of where I've abused anyone; it will take you a considerable time to find something.

    Maybe where you live!

My girls are at a catholic high school! and the boys are at the all boys school.. they don't have a school nurse on site, she visits once every 1 or 2 months.

Mine weren't at a Catholic school, although we are Catholics. At their school, they left last year and year before, they sent us letters telling parents they would be supporting girls getting the morning after pill either by taking them to a clinic or getting school nurse to come in. I spoke to the head about this as I wasnt happy with the idea of someone taking my, then, underage daughter to get the morning after pill. I suggested they give out condoms on a Friday afternoon rather than pills on a Monday morning but I was told they couldn't do that as it would seem they were encouraging underage sex. I pointed out that it would give them protection against infections as well as pregnancy but they said they couldn't do it.

Do you think, for one minute, that she and her daughter will not be judged far more harshly in the real world?

They will be judged in the real world because people cannot mind their own business. What gets me is how someone can judge another when they don't even know them.
