EDF paperwork + cooling off period

@IH8STRESS - Yes, did receive the initial letter in June outlining overalll contract with individual amounts for both utilities.
The confusion arises because I have rec'd a snailmail on 6th July describing DDs and dates for electricity and the same day had an electronic message with different dates for the total amount!!! Haven't rec'd any communication about a DD for the gas.
The worry now is that they will attempt to take both amounts initially in the next week or so - that would be ~ £200 and then repeat the medicine on 14th of next month - don't really want to have to reclaim in the first month of operation!0 -

UPDATE
Ah - I see you two joined before the new competition July 1st start date, that explains why you didnt have to agree.
What I miss most about Eon, is the online rep help!! That was excellent , but hopefully with this EDF being 3 yearsish , once its sorted initially, I can more or less ignore it.0 -
Oh FGS !! The EDF website says you can submit meter readings (which theyve asked me for via snail mail) without logging in . Pressed the appropriate 'readings' button, filled in my account number and postcode, then in the box asking for meter id, I tried to put in the Meter Point Administration number . It obviously isnt this , as my MPA is 13 digits, and EDF box only allows 6 . I havent got any other meter id that I know about, anyone know what Im supposed to use , before I tackle ringing them please? ( Their email replies by the way , they say take 10 days  !!! )0

I switched to EDF (fixed saver 2) on 29th June via moneysupermarket. After a week I had heard nothing, so called up EDF. They told me that they had not received anything through matching my details, so suggested trying again. I assumed this was moneysupermarket's fault for not passing on my details.
I said I would do it online again and this time go via topcashback and so switching directly on their site, so I did this on 5th July.
I finally got a letter through on 15th July (dated 10th July) with my contract. I checked the date I signed and it was 29th June!!! i.e. when I originally signed via moneysupermarket! Therefore my cooling off period had expired on 11th July. I was thinking about changing my mind and going for the 2014 fix, but this had now made up my mind for me.
Normally I wouldnt mind, but I am currently with Scottish Power and rang them up on 13th July, giving my 'right to cancel' so I could waive the termination fees. However, had EDF contacted SP after the 12 day cooling off period on 11th or 12th july I would have been charged the fees! I dont think they have as the lady at SP didnt mention anything on the 13th.
Just waiting to see if EDF try to duplicate my account (as I have applied twice effectively!).
Not had problems when have been with EDF before, but sounds like they are struggling a tad at the minute. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Not quite sure if you mean that the electronic message is for direct debit for BOTH gas and electric as one monthly payment? (I understand they start off as separate billing due to different start dates, then after a month or two may be merged into one monthly bill).
Can you not have a word with your bank and advise them which payment amount(s) should be going out to EDF each month and that you don't authorise any different/additional requests from EDF?
Like you say, it may well be a nightmare getting it back from EDF.0 -

Yes, Malc is very good and has helped me on a couple of occasions. It's a great shame that their Fixed tariff was too dear for me as I really couldn't fault Eon and was reluctant to leave.0 -

As I was registered it only asks me for the meter readings. Having just looked at my account it mentions a Register Code for the gas and this is written as 'Standard' ( with the capital S and without the quotes). As this is 8 letters, perhaps you can try it?
The same column for my electric is blank for the Register Code.
Edit: Oops, just re-read your post and see you say 6 digits and not 8 - I'd best get to Specsavers, quick!

Incidentally, just looking at my account for this information, I see that only my electric reading has registered, despite it saying it was successful in entering them both on Friday.
Anglican Pat: do you know that there is a different 0800 number for phoning them with your meter readings eg. not the usual customer services one?0 -

Out of curiosity I just tried doing this - found the link at the bottom of the page for doing a meter reading without logging in. I only had to put in my account number, then the next page requested the meter readings (nothing else required), then click on submit.
I stopped at this point.
When I tried to access this again though, the meter reading link had disappeared?
Perhaps you could try it again (if you can find the meter reading link) to see if you only have to enter your account number and the relevant readings this time?0 -
