EDF paperwork + cooling off period

It appears we're jumping out of the frying pan into the fire then as we're switching from npower's Go Fix 2 to EDF's 2014 fix.
Although Go Fix 6 has finished, npower were still offering to honour a switch to that tariff as we'd previously enquired about it and were told on two separate occasions by npower staff that it wasn't going to be pulled until 31st July.
In the end we've decided to risk the switch and go for the longer fix. The application has gone in via moneysupermarket.com so we're only at the very beginning of the process. Fingers crossed!0 -

The phone number is on the Meter Reading request letters and also on the leaflet that comes with it. (I can pm it to you if need be - not sure if I can put it on here)0 -
How did you tell your electric reading has registered? When I entered my gas and elec readings in 'my account' last week, I got an instant acknowledment after each suggesting it was successful, but revisiting my account since, it still states progress as 'awaiting opening reading'....any clues?
If you go into your account and click on 'submit meter reading' option on the left it comes up with the details. In my case it gave the date of the last meter reading and the reading itself for the electric. The gas details for this were blank despite me submitting both last Friday and it saying I was successful.
Incidentally my status progress is still at amber on 'awaiting opening reading'0 -
The online system seems to be working at the present0

Yes, mine shows the bank name, sort code and last 4 digits of the account number.
Dave, in relation to your direct debits quandry - does this page show your 'standard payment amount' as your total (gas & elec) price?
Also, in the 'added extras' do you have a ticked box for Single bill (and one for Direct Debit)?0 -

I've just managed to log in - in reply to your queries - yes it shows the total amount and both DD and single bill options are ticked.
HOWEVER, the gas contract in "contract checker" is still "awaiting opening read" even tho' it looks like the switch was completed on 14th July - obviously something else needs to happen before it completes.0 -
Dave: How did you find out your switch date? my contract checker only mentions that my supply started with them on the 12th June (date I applied via moneysupermarket).
I've just tried submitting my gas reading again and like others on here, had to input the electric reading too. It then came back with:
"You've already given us a meter reading for this account. You don't need to do anything else until we send your next meter reading reminder"
Perhaps it will speed up now that this 2014 tariff might have been pulled?0 -
Your supply does not start on the date you apply, the typical switch time is 4-5 weeks-so yours should be imminent, if not already done.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Many thanks but I have the paperwork here in front of me now, and I see it. Just about to ring them to find out where to find the meter id number theyre asking for on the page after where you put the readings in .0 -

The problem appears to be that they suggest that they are ready for a meter reading when they are not. Looking back,I only successfully recorded meter readings on these listed start dates but not before even tho' the web site suggests you can input readings anytime.
Even tho' the contract tracker is now "green" for electricity contract live,it still says supply started 8th June, the date I applied for the switch!! (and the gas contract is still "amber -awaiting meter read" !!) Grinding exceeding slow!!0
