    A question, if I may.

Got two emails from EDF today saying a message was waiting for me. When I log in, no message, but I see my electricity switch is ready for a meter reading.

This follows what others here have said. However, I've seen others also refer to an exact date when each meter should be read. Do I wait to be given a date, or just read the meter(s) soon as (I'm away until next week anyway).

    Thanks.

I'd just enter the reading online if their system will take it. Also take a screen print or capture of what you've entered for your records. According to their system my gas supply started with them on 11//2/21/0. No amount of juggling those numbers around gave the actual start date!
Contrary to what they told me when I signed up, the online account does not show your current balance after you have entered a reading either - it just shows the balance as of your last bill or when you started. My bank has no record of them setting up the direct debit either, but I suspect they'll eventually catch on to that one. :)

HOORRAY - I've managed to enter a gas meter reading which the website has accepted WITHOUT asking for an electricity reading....now all I've got to wait for is the set up of the DD(s)...For both?..or electricity?..or gas???

When I log into my account this morning, it says the following.....

"The iView has timed out. There is no cached content to display. Click 'Reload' to retrieve updated content. You may need to wait for the cache to retrieve the content from the source."

I suspect the system is down but makes me realise I have no screenshots as evidence of progress of applications. Probably worthwhile the way this is going!

My in-laws also switched to EDF at the same time I did. Their account status is identical to mine, only they have had no acknowledgement of the switch from their existing supplier 'Ovo' and 5 weeks have now passed.

Glad some of you are able to enter Gas readings!?

I switched to dual online save earlier this year - nearly 6 mths on, I cant put a gas reading in! Its a "known issue" apparently - though I have been lucky with regards to customer service.

My only worry is - I want to fix my tariff - the customer service know this - but the system wont allow it until they fix the gas account issue - heres hoping they sort it before the next price rise or I will not be happy!

:TWell done! I actually managed to enter both my gas and electric readings successfully on Friday. I'd had the mysterious email pointing me to a non-existant message on my account, and going by comments on here decided to wait until it came up with the option to enter BOTH readings, as initially it was just for the electric one.

I've had one previous message, which was for the direct debit of my electric. Just waiting for the gas direct debit now.

I've had this message a couple of times when trying to log into my account. I just left it until the next day, so don't know how long it takes to rectify. Like you say, it is probably their system being down.

Im just in the process of registering to manage the EDF account on line. Has anyone noticed you cant agree to the ordinary conditions , without agreeing to the conditions of the Argos prize draw thats attached to them , or at least, I cant see how to - and without agreeing, I cant proceed to register.
Im just a bit annoyed that the EDF conditions force you to allow your details to be distributed to yet more companies , albeit they say theyd only be used for processing your application and administering prizes. Who's to say what details - bank ones too? - just incase you win and they can administer the £1000 prize? This looks like its being handled by promoters, not EDF so the 'may need to pass details' will probably certainly be "has every intention of passing" !

Maybe Im just being over picky -- but WHY cant you opt out of the Argos draw .Or can you ?- (other than making yourself ineligible by being outside the given time frame)

"I agree to the terms and conditions of MyAccount usage. By signing up to MyAccount I agree to be entered into the prize draw and accept the prize draw terms and conditions -

This is the bit I dislike

"EDF Energy may need to pass Eligible Entrants details to selected third parties in order to process entries. By entering this free prize draw you consent to EDF Energy passing your details to such third parties for this purpose. Your details will not be used by third parties for anything other than processing your entries and administering the prize."

I know such things are common these days, and you cant avoid them sometimes, but I want to be able to avoid them for unecessary stuff like draws.

I'm now a bit further down the road - main account page now shows my electricity contract as set up and running -but still showing "awaiting meter read " for gas (even tho' there is a meter reading already entered and shown on the meter reading page!!) - the major worry now is when they are going to start taking the DD and for how much ?? since I have a snail mail dated 3/7 and an electronic message dated 11/7 which contradict each other!!
@ANGLICAN PAT - Don't think I had to agree to any prize draw when I registered my account - but I suppose it might be different as it is a condition of the product I've switched to?

my main account page still shows 'awaiting opening read' which I gave them on Friday, so hopefully it is SLOWLY taking place. I haven't (yet) had a letter about direct debits, just the one message about my electric direct debit.
Dave: Did you receive the 'welcome to EDF energy' letter outlining your contract? Item No. 4 should have stated your standard payment amount for gas and electric. (My 'message' for the electric direct debit tallies with the amount quoted on this letter)

Anglican Pat: I noticed the Argos prize draw being mentioned but on checking this had already closed and I vaguely think it related to a different tariff package?

I also went into My Account, 'bill and contact preference' to check I would get paperless billing and had to untick some of the contact methods as they were ALL ticked (can't remember allowing this initially) - so it's worth looking at your accounts.
