The one bill per year policy arises because it means that only bill per year needs correcting. :D

Actually got through to a human there today after only being on hold for 13 minutes....
I asked why they weren't taking any DD payments. They said it had initially been set up and gave me the details. When they realised it was a Barclays account, they said there had been a problem with Barclays cancelling a whole load of DD setups a few months ago without telling anyone, and maybe I'd been a victim of that. I've heard of banks recklessly spending money, but doing a blanket wipeout of payments due to come in?? Anyway, EDF will set the DD up again and I've made a payment over the phone to cover the current balance. It's never been so difficult to give people money!
I also asked why my email sent on 19 July hadn't been answered. He just apologised and said he'd put through a note to the section concerned.

    Yesterday my switch completed. Huzzar!

Only Electric DD was taken, even though my letter said both would be, so I called EDF up, got through after 5 minutes (!), got explained Gas switch has missed DD date and so Gas DD would be late this month and then both combined next month. Got offered a call back at 11am if I wanted to give further readings, just in case (!!). Low and behold 11am on the dot I got a call (!!!).

Scottish Power on the other hand have sent me my final Gas bill. It says balance for my last period was £-18. I have the bill for my last period infront of me, and it says credit of £20! Scottish Power would only say it was correct and couldn't expalin why a credit had turned in to a debit in 17 days, when no further bills had been generated. I've been giving monthly readings as SP made lots of past mistakes, so it was easy to spot! Hmmm.

Fine. If that is their attitiude dispute the account and raise a formal complaint.

I speculate it might be the result of applying an early termination charge. Rightly or wrongly.
  • Well EDF are no longer asking for an electricity meter reading but we may be getting there. Still asking for a gas meter reading even though we have submitted several. However they took longer asking for a gas meter reading in the first place so that probably has something to do with that.
