I contacted Barclaycard and asked if they had any balance transfers deals for existing customers at the moment. My card has been clear since November. The guy I spoke to was quite rude and said no. I said that I would be closing my account as I want to do a bt and he said he would put that in writing to me - no even trying to change my mind!

But aren't the bal xfer fees uncapped these days? The card i had had a £75 max and i was a stooszing newbie and foollishly cancelled.

There is nothing to stop you having two on going Mbna run cards, but they seem to object at three.

Leave MBNA cards dormant and they send monthly offers, each offers better rates than the last, so if you wait a while 0% soon re-appears. However you will have to argue about the fee and capping it.
If you have 2 cards they let you move credit limits between the two to maximise any good BT offer.
Dont cancel unless you are trying for another card with them, they are good at negotiating, in Chester. ;)

I had a phone offer from MBNA at an inconvenient time for 0% 9 months 2.5% uncapped fee and the card had only been clear 5 days. Rang back when I had details, they couldnt match as the outsourcing agency has special offers it can do.

But they did me 5.9% 9 months no fee, which works out almost the same of the amount I was transferring.

And the only reason I the card was clear was I moved some debt off knowing they would offer. So in effect for extended a 6.9% from last year to a 5.9% for total of 14 months. Probably best deal I could hope for, no new cards will touch me yet, been bad boy in past.

Lloyds TSB offered 5.9% LOB (no fee) which I decided to accept - it will go straight into the offset mortgage. The alternative was 0% for 6 months with an uncapped 3% fee (pretty rubbish , actually).

I just applied for a Barclaycard platinum 12 months 0% card, but I'm curious - what kind of credit limit do they usually offer you in the beginning?

I tried MBNA yesterday and a gentleman came on the line and offered 3.9% 6 month BT with 2.5% uncapped fee, told him it turns to 8.9% annualand he reduced it to 1.9% 6 months with 2.5% uncapped (i.e 6.9% annual) wouldnt budge on increasing to 9 months or 0% BT with 2.5% uncapped. didnt take the offer and didnt want to threaten cancellation as if he accepted cancellation would lose a big credit limit!!
Called again today a nice lady came on the phone :o and offered 0% 9 month BT with 2.5% uncapped!! it turns out to 3.33% annual, didnt want to push my luck so took it straight away!!

I remember reading a post somewhere on this site which said that when a male customer calls and a female CS answers then chances of getting a good deal was better (and viceversa)...looks like i hit pay dirt!! no offence to either sex.. but guess thats the waythe ball rolls. opposites attract. the guy yesterday wudnt budge at all!!

MBNA 5.9% till next Feb - waived the fee. Not the best offer I've ever had from them , but with base rate due to go up to 5.5% next week , not too bad , I suspect.

BARLCAYCARD 0% offer - has anyone else found the sting!
I have been sorting out a lot of paperwork and just filed all my credit card statements going bank to 03 (long time overdue) The barclaycard offer was 0% for lifetime of transfer BUT you had to spend on it each month so I set up a DD to a charity for £2 per month. I have discovered that my payments each month are all going on the transfer and not the monthly spend.. they say its in the Terms & Conditions allocation of transfer first and there is nothing I can do about this .. I will investigate my terms & conditions but in the meantime the interest on the standard balance is now 1.96 per month and increasing month on month !!
