lol i know what you mean about not aching so much :j although i definately felt it tonight as i left the gym. my legs didnt belong to my body, i was so red i was probably visable from space and my clothes were sticking to me... but i felt so fantastic!
and whats even better is that we managed to add an extra rep again, even though we had to go on the treadmills last tonight instead of first because the gym was busy. spent over an hour on the cardio equipment, and even did a few weights. feel like i could take on the worldknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

? is this a realistic time for someone who has never run properly before?
does anyone know how long the course takes to walk, on average?
had another good run last night, didnt ache at all today, even though i pushed myself that little bit further than i had done before. we are both noticing that whilst it is far from easy it is getting easier. hows everyone else coming on?
Sorry, PD, been away a bit, so only just read you questionI'm probably averagely fit. I keep active (walk and cycle for short journeys) and try not to put on too much weight, though I do carry a few extra kg  In the last few years (since I was staring 40 in the face) I've been focussed on living to a ripe old age, doing the things I want to do. I don't enjoy running, but it's a means to an end. My personal goal is to run the race without stopping. Time isn't too important to me, but about 35 mins is what I usually achieve.
I've been running now for about 4 years, and my first R4L was done about 12 weeks after I started. I did that in 38 mins.
When I started training, my friend and I had the plan to walk 3 mins, run 3 mins, etc. increasing the running time gradually. That worked OK at the start, but we then got that when we stopped running and walked, we couldn't run again.
Now I run the whole distance when I'm training. If I'm finding it hard, I just go slower, but keep running slowly. I find that much easier than the stop-start.
The other thing I like is to have a music set on my MP3, set at a tempo about the pace that I want to run.
HTH, but please shout up if you want more

Just joined the Hull RFL. Never don't one before. I'm over weight over the hill but I dont care if I have to wobble all the way round. Doing it for all the poeple who don't have anyone doing it for them.0

how many times a week are people goin to the gym to train?0
-
we've been twice this week and are hoping to squeeze in another session tomorrow.
hopefully it will get easier to train as the evenings get lighter and warmer. will be strange to run outside for the first time, i understand its very different to running on a treadmill. will be an experience no doubt
i think the general advice is to have a rest day between each workout to give yourself time to recover. depending on how much time you can dedicate and how unfit you are will determine how much time you feel you need to put in at the gym.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

have you thought about placing an appeal in your local rag? there could be some woman out there wishing she had a partner to train and take part with. you'd be raising awareness of the event, and may even get a bit of sponsorship too :j
It's on my company website, so maybe people might join me, but they don't normally. My family don't even come along and support me. Nice hey??

Hi!
I'm doing it too so thought I would join you! This will be my 3rd R4L the first one I did whilst heavily pregnant so that was a run / walk effort (more on the walk side!!).
Looking to do it a bit quicker this time :-)

I have registered to take part - this will be my first time and am concerned about whether I will be able to do it (am very overweight). How long on average does it take to walk the course?
I am struggling to get many sponsors and everyone seems to already be sponsoring someone else!0 -
i will be the rfl again this year. last year was my first and i walked it on my own in just over an hour. considering im a bit over weight and have scoliosis (curve of the spine) i thought that was pretty good.
good luck to all who are doing it well worth it
TAKE CARE ALLMANY THANKS TO THE WONDERFUL OPS:beer: :A:beer::A:beer::A:A0
