    Hi Everyone,
I too have signed up again this year, after doing Richmond last year and really enjoying it I have decide for a change of scenery to run the gunnersbury park one.
I took my friend last year who had never run before and although it was hard work for her she made it across the line and only stopped once. It took some serious motivation from me but it was worth it. The atmosphere was amazing although I find all the back signs really hard to read as I'm running-I'm too emotional !
I lost my Grandad to lung cancer 10 years ago.
My Father-in-law to bowel cancer ( he was 67 ) two years ago and my lovely Mother-in-law to brain cancer at Christmas ( she was 67 too )
My aunt who is 55 is battling lung cancer at the moment. She went into remission last year but it has come back and has just started intense radiotherapy.
Everyone I know has been affected by cancer and are all supporting me fantastically with my run. I too have found the online sponsorship page the best way to go.
Good luck to everyone running or walking, rememeber to have fun and don't give yourself a hard time, the fact that you are there is fantastic in itself
    looby xx

just thought i'd update. auntie kath lost her battle with cancer on march 13th, and was cremated this afternoon  as sad as it is to lose her, in a way its a relief too. she's at peace now and she's not in pain anymore.

Jen's auntie has also taken a turn for the worse of late :(

suddenly what we're all doing seems a lot more poignant

I am recovering from a broken back, so I am walking it. My daughter is running. Its a great excuse for my running allergy; but its true!!

I lost both my parents to cancer, dad at just 48, mum was 75. My neighbour has breast cancer (she's in her 40's) my mother in law had cancer in her 40's. my grandma, uncle and aunt have all had it, daughter's bf mother has had breast cancer; I know we could all go on and on

So we have to do something, fortunately most of the folks I've listed are still with us; that's why we are running - to increase the numbers of survivors. YAYY .......

    hows everyone getting on?

due to our academic commitments, training had taken a bit of a back seat this past fortnight :naughty: went to the gym yesterday afternoon, and boy did it hurt  no one to blame but ourselves though, and its made us realise that we need to be much more disciplined in our attitude towards training.

so it will be (at least) twice a week, every week from now on. we're looking to try this outdoor running soon too, now that the better weather seems to have arrived.

im amazed that i dont ache more today than i do (whether i'll still be saying that after ive attempted to straigthen my hair remains to be seen :rotfl: ). but i even did weights yesterday. strong as an ox me :D

so all you ladies out there, get off your behinds, stop reading mse and go train - you'll thank me come race day :j

Hi, Getting a little less unfit by the day (can't say fit yet) have been training for 4 weeks now - its getting a little bit easier by the day - mind you I was really ,really unfit !

I'm running in celebration of my wonderfull mum, who, thank goodness,is a breast and skin cancer survivor.Without you,and the many wonderfull people who have run the RFL in previous years, she may not have been here now,so thankyou, and because of you she'll be there to welcome me over the finish line !events like this really do help to save lives - keep up with the training, good luck and thankyou

yes, I can't wait, a work colleague has done the RFL for the last couple of years and she says that the atmosphere is fantastic. I'm finding the training a bit tough at the moment, I have done no exercise since I was at school (20 something years ago )I'm running every other day and really having to push myself, but I'm bloody determined to run over that finish line ! !but hey, so what , its nothing compared with what people living with this dreadful disease have to cope with.
