Neighbours Smoke

I have. We had to get one to make our flat bearable during summer months.
It was about €100 for the unit, and a slight increase in electricity usage for a few months a year. Well worth it, as our bedroom went from an unbearable 32 degrees (often as high as 36 days on very hot days), to a more manageable 25 degress.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

As a smoker, I totally agree, I am entitled to smoke anywhere on my property, inside or out.
What I was disagreeing with in this thread however, was this attitude of certain posters that was to have no consideration of others, and to have this chip on their shoulder, where they felt hard done by.
But I think a lot of that is coming from the fact that people can no longer smoke in so many public places, that their home has become even more of a castle to them. It really is becoming a case of 'Hey, this is legal and yet I can't even do it in my home now?!'.
And, in the grand scheme of things, there are a lot worse things that neighbours can/could do, than have a fag in the garden.
I agree though, certain situations described on here are horrid. For instance, if I knew my neighbours had a baby/kids bedroom above/near to my garden, I would seek out a place to smoke away from any windows.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Found one for 190 quid in under 5 minutes: http://www.climachill.co.uk/acatalog/Portable_Air_Conditioners.html
You could probably find others, cheaper, with a more detailed search.
Edit: Air coolers start at 71.99 GBP at argos http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&langId=-1&q=AIR+CONDITIONING&pp=20&s=Price%3A+Low+-+High&p=21February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

A single portable air conditioning unit will start at £100 but you can obviously get much more expensive ones too. Have a look on the amazon website for some prices.
I was heavily pregnant in the very hot summer we had a couple of years ago by the way and was perfectly cool all night with just a tower fan from Currys on all night with the windows closed (we were living in a noisy city street). That cost less than £20.0 -

Appologies it was an off the cuff statement and definately out of order.
I just think its massively unreasonable to suggest that someone can't/shouldnt smoke on their own property. As said early there are lots of different smells that people don't like produced by there neighbours that everyone has to deal with so why should smokers be allowed to be categorised and attacked?
You can walk down almost any street in the country @ 6pm and find the smell of dirty chip fat. People who do this aren't courteous and if you asked them not to make chips im sure you would get an angry response.
I don't think we should have special rules or circumstances and maybe i am playing the victim but how am i not being victimised if im being asked to not smoke in my garden?!
Relic: that is true cows are very bad for the environment i believe (digging from a distant memory) they produe 7 cubic metres of methane a day:eek: and as such would be very bad for global warming, but seen as were not talking about global warming seee this point as irreleveant?!?
As for the smell, i do not live close enough to a farm to get any animal smells so not really a problem for me. And to ask a cow to not defficate is unreasonable.0 -

Really? Reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally?
How many times do you need to be told the same thing, over and over??
No one has said you can't / shouldn't smoke on your own property, all that anyone has suggested is that you should have a little consideration towards your neighbours and smoke away from their windows!
As for my point about cows, I was trying to point out how irrelevant your point was. Obviously, that one went straight over your head.
Now we are on to chip shop smells. Glad to see their is some progression in that mind of yours.Per Mare Per Terram0 -
Relic - No one expects their neighbours to not cook certain meals, or to not cook them at certain times, even though they may find the smell revolting. So, with that in mind, why would anyone expect a smoker to show such consideration, when smoking outside? Particularly given that the smell will dissipate so quickly in the wind.February wins: Theatre tickets0

Yes, i really am this stupid. I just dont get it, i don't smoke at peoples windows, i dont blow it towards there property and i dont have a pipe being fed into their window which when i take a puff i then exhale into. How do you suggest i be more courteous than smoke in a place were my smoke is diluted into such a vast area that within about 40 seconds any dangerous fumes are that weak they are negligible. As for the smell it does stick around abit longer but short of having a catalystic convertor or carbon filter fitted (i am aware this is not possible/feasible so there is no need to raise this as me being 'stupid') to me how do you suggest i get rid of this?!0 -

Care to buy us 2 of them then? And get the kids to sleep through the noise of it and get me to sleep through the noise of it? (poor sight leads to increased sensitivity in hearing).
Maybe the neighbours would foot the bill?
Or maybe they could just not hang out of their bedroom windows and fill our rooms with smoke? Or maybe if they actually shared a bedroom like normal couples do then we would at least have the problem with only one of the bedrooms not both front and back."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0
