The examples are personal to me, but not uncommon considering the number of people who live in flats/apartments in city centres, or other busy areas.

I'm considerate because I am in a public place, and am sharing that space with others, so I feel it's only right to be considerate of them. However, in my own home, in my own space, I shouldn't have to worry about a little smoke affecting someone in a different property to me! I wouldn't dream of going into the shared hallway and smoking though, I have no right to!

If I can't relax in my own home, where can I? Besides, for me personally, I smoke so infrequently, I would any complaint as a bit 'nitpicky' from neighbours.

Alright, we're getting a bit far away from the OP.

I don't see any problem with infrequent smoking in your own flat, nevertheless, a totally different situation to the OP.

Yes we have a fire pit, not whopping big at all and nothing chemical and nasty in the smoke but yes I'll need to have a bath and wash the smell out of my hair after it but once every now and then to clear more cut down garden compared to the chemical crap they let into my house is nout. I would pick my timing considerably though if they would be a little more considerate also. But they are not.

    Do you have reading comprehension?

I never said you can't do it on your own property, I said have some consideration for others who don't want to smell your smoke.

I like how you have to try and belitlle people on forums, inferiority complex?!

And as for the remarks on my comparrisons, count how many cars are on the road and count how many smokers there are and consequently how many cigarettes are smoked and im certain you will see that vehicle emissions far outweigh smokers. So yes i think its a very valid point to compare car fumes with smoking.

True, you didnt say i can't smoke on my property thats because i can! But you are suggesting that i am wrong for doing so. Wether or not i am courteous is my choice and is not required by law and until then i will smoke freely in my garden.

Yeah, but it still doesn't change the fact that the neighbours aren't breaking any laws. They are perfectly entitled to smoke in their own backgarden.

And let's not forget we only have the OP's version of events. For all we know, this could've been exaggerated, or they may have asked for them to stop smoking outside completely, or in a rude manner etc etc.

In most cases, a polite conversation and willingness to compromise would've removed this issue. We don't know that this has ever happened.

If you didn't make comments like how you would sh*t in the OP's garden if you were their neighbour then maybe you wouldn't get replies that were belittling.

I'm not trying to belittle anyone, that's your own doing.

I didn't say you were wrong either, again, please try to read my posts. All I asked was that people would be considerate when they smoked, rather than just having this attitude of "It's my property, and i'll do what the hell I want!!".

Your comparison is also completely out of context, but if you want to go down that route, i'd suggest you go and have a word with the cows at the local field, I hear they are major contributers to global warming!

On a side note, I still cannot fathom why anyone would start smoking in the first place. Filthy habbit. ;)

  • It is a disgusting smell and as a non-smoker I agree with you that it is annoying. But hey ho, nothing we can do about it. I have fabreze and air fresheners that help to keep the smells down. I have also found in the past that some people will go out of their way to be more annoying if they know it upsets you, so best to just ignore and get on with your own life. Keep your windows closed if they smell wafts in and invest in some air conditioning units instead? Do whatever you need to do. We can't control it have to make changes in our own homes to live with it.

As a smoker, I totally agree, I am entitled to smoke anywhere on my property, inside or out.

What I was disagreeing with in this thread however, was this attitude of certain posters that was to have no consideration of others, and to have this chip on their shoulder, where they felt hard done by.
