Neighbours Smoke

Unfortunately not. The 'No smoking' zealots believe that ANY, including criminal, action is allowed in their continuing vendetta against people carrying out a lawful pastime on their own property.I'm a smoker, and I find it extremely frustrating when I hear stories like this.
I enjoy what I do, but I know other people don't. I make sure whenever I am lighting up (whether i'm out in public, or in my own garden) that no one is near, and i'm as far away from any windows as possible. Mostly I smoke in the shed!
I wish other people would be as considerate, so not all smokers get tarred with the same brush.
It's good to see some smokers are responsible in the way they smoke. What a good neighbour you are, relic!0 -
No-one would worry about the neighbours smoking if the smoke stayed on their own property.
If your neighbours ate takeaways in their garden and then threw the containers into your garden, I doubt you would be happy. Making your neighbours share your smoke is the same thing.
Not really. There is an obvious need to upset the neighbours if you start throwing rubbish into their garden and besides, it's illegal.
However they can't really control the flow of smoke. The unfortunate nature of smoke is that it spreads and it will end up in neighbouring gardens. I don't really think it's fair to expect them not to smoke on their own property though and their actions don't seem to be unreasonable, it's just an unfortunate outcome.
With all due respect, smoke outside will quickly disperse and I think you'd struggle to smell it after a few minutes. Just put up some nice smelling bits around the garden and be done with it.0 -
We smoke in the back garden as we don't smoke in the house at all.
Nothing's ever been said by the neighbours and we're terraced ~ if they did have a problem with it though, it'd be.....errrr......tough!

I seem to have missed the bit where the OP said her neighbours were emptying their ashtrays onto her garden?0 -
What if the neighbour wanted to be at the far end of the garden?!
New stance.... Seeing as im not aloud to smoke in my garden, i beilieve you should not be allowed to open your windows or go out in your garden, this would solve the problem!
Are you being ridiculously stupid on purpose, or has this been a long term problem?
People have every right not to have to smell other peoples cigarettes in their own home. I'm a smoker myself, as I pointed out, yet it seems to me most smokers like to give every excuse under the sun, and seem to think they are hard done by.
Grow up.Per Mare Per Terram0 -

Yes i am ridiculously stupid and it is a long term problem.
I am a smoker and a damn conscious one at that. But for somone to suggest that i cannot smoke in my own garden is ludicrous. As suggested in a previous post, i dislike the smell of car fumes now would it be stupid if i expected people to not drive there cars near me?!0 -

Your comparisons are ridiculous, do people park outside your house every so often, have old decrepid cars that pour fumes through your windows?
Didn't think so.
It's called common decency, if you have neighbours who use their garden, or have windows open, make an effort to smoke away from that area.Per Mare Per Terram0 -

How would this be different though, from a vegetarian neighbour complaining that they can smell meat being cooked on a BBQ? That smell could be very offensive to the vegetarian. Should everyone who lives next door to a vegetarian stop having BBQ's also?
When I am out and about, I make every effort to avoid my smoke going anywhere near anyone else (on the rare occasions that I do smoke), but I'll be damned if I go to any extra efforts on my own property for a little bit of smoke.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
We've got neighbours like this too and it's absolutely disgusting. And as for being hard pushed to smell it after a few minutes? You really have trashed your sense of sense of smell with smoking then, it lingers for ages and is vile.
I certainly don't give a monkeys when I use my fire pit though, if they weren't smokers I'd only use it late at night and certainly never when they had laundry out. They don't offer us any courtesy though so in this respect we don't either."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0
