    Slightly odd comment.

They don't want to smell smoke in their own home, nothing wrong with that. How on earth does that suggest the are leading a "pretty good life"?

Sir/Madam, I am as entitled to my views as anyone else and I find the entire thread bizarre. A lot of the comments are errant nonsense and I can understand why some smokers address some non-smokers as "tobacco Nazis". That isn't how I choose to address someone whose views may be different to mine but I do find the OP's complaint to be petty and unrealistic in the extreme.

If you don't like the smell of farm animals then don't buy a house in the country. If you don't like the smell of exhaust fumes then don't buy a house on a busy road. If you don't like the smell of your neighbour's smoke then politely ask them to smoke a little bit further away from your window. If this doesn't work, and it bugs you enough, then move house.

I'm not a smoker, and I detest the smell of smoke, but I think a smoker has every right to smoke in their own garden. If they really are smoking directly underneath a baby's bedroom window then I would have thought a few polite words would fix the problem in most circumstances.

I don't have the issue of my neighbour's smoke coming into my house/garden, but am sure I'd be unhappy if it did happen. But then again I don't see what youc an do about it.

I have a similar issue though . My neighbour has an air conditioning unit with the exterior unit on an outer wall facing my house/garden.

So on any nice warm day, they have their air con on full blast, ad 'we' have to put up with the noise!
It's on those nice days that we want to be out in our garden, but it becomes unbearable with the sound of their air con unit. We are in a pretty rural location, so when the air con isn't working, it's practically silent outside. Completely spoiled when the air con is on.

But again....I can't see anything we can do about it.

We get on fine with our neighbours, but I can't ask them not to use their air con when we are out in the garden. It's preceisely those days that we want to be out, that they want to put on their air con :-(
There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't!

TBF, I came to a similar conclusion.

Unless they, or someone else in the household, suffers from a severe respiratory problem then this is such a small issue to be concerned with.

Of all the issues in my life, the smells my neighbours produce is way, way, way down the list!

Some people obviously don't have enough to worry about!
  • Reminds me of a recent incident. It was lovely weather so I bought myself some lunch in town and sat on a secluded bench to eat it. After a few minutes, a woman came and sat beside me - and lit her cigarette.
I was initial furious because it was stinky and I was eating - BUT - it's a free country, she was in her rights, and ultimately it just comes down to rudeness. And some people are rude, and we just have to live with it.
