Don't you read other peoples posts who obviously work or have worked in the industry, and in this field in particular?.

None of the banks are allowed to communicate with their customers on this.

Yes I do read the posts, and they just keep repeating themselves. But none of them have answered the question asked by various people (why is it only Barclays who operate this way?). Obviously Barclays interpret the law differently to other banks.

All I am interested in is stopping other people having to go through the same distress as the OP. But some of the posters just keep repeating "never mind, it will sort it's self out in a few days". Well this is the sort of couldn't care less about the customer attitude that I have come to expect from Barclays. And quite frankly, it isn't much help to the customer who can't feed their children. So to various posters on here, stop trying to bully people who care out of the forum.

You keep repeating that it is only Barclays when there are at least 4 different representatives on the thread who do or have worked for Banks. At least 2 of which have stated they don't work for Barclays. Plus a poster who had the same problem, albeit a frozen account, at Santander.

It is not just Barclays all banks are legally bound by the non disclosure policy. All the Banks will have a similar period in which to investigate.

IMO Barclays are no better on worse than the other main stream Banks.

I am concerned for the OP but it is the weekend, 5 working days is the investigation period. It is unlikely that anything that we say and do is going to change that.

I do not know what you do for a living but I wouldn't argue black and white with you if I wasn't sure of facts.

The same could be said for you.

I think you would probably get a job in the Barclays customer service department.

IMO meer53 has made absolute sense today and he is talking from a position of knowledge. He is in tune with a number of posters on this thread.

The law is quite straightforward in this respect; the minute a bank suspects that there is something 'dodgy' about the way an account is conducted it is obliged to freeze the account. The requirement to follow money laundering regulations takes priority over complying with the terms and conditions of the customer's account - see Squirrell Ltd v National Westminster Bank Plc 2005.

I can understand why people might not like this. But shouting at Barlays, Nat West or whatever bank it is, won't change the law. Shouting at your MP might help, although you might be better off shouting at your MEP, since the UK is simply following EU directives in this regard.

Spot on and some new affected customers will still go through this each and every day, and once in a while, a baddie will get apprehended.

And that's the whole problem. People are treated as guilty until proven innocent.

I bank with Lloyds TSB. I got a couple of Payday loans, which brought an extra £1000 or so through my account over a few months. they were worried about money laundering, and froze my account whilst they investigated. Took 5 days, a few phonecalls to the loan company, and my account was un-frozen. It was a pain in the bum, but luckily I had cash in my hubby's account.

    Well I stand corrected.

I suppose it can only be because of the connection between my business and my personal accounts that they phone me first.

No - because they are cross selling.
