i seriously dont see how two cheques from my brothers bank bank THE HALIFAX being deposited into my account can cause suspicion of money laundering its ridicuilous !!!

Do you know why he gave you 2 cheques instead of 1? Seems very strange and may look suspicious to the bank.

Barclays do have the right to do whatever they think is necessary under their procedures.

What rubbish, banks have no right to deny you access to the money you lent them.

They can be more or less anal retentive in how they choose to interpret and follow regulation imposed by the government and enforced by the FSA with the threat of large fines.

So the OP can <female dog> at Barclaycard a bit for how they choose to interpret and implement regulation but mostly the OP should <female dog> at the politicians who decided we must all be treated as money laundering terrorist supporting criminals until proven otherwise.

Remember that when you are next asked to vote for them.

I have witnessed it first hand working in branches. It's all part of the bank sales sales sales machine. Branches are notified daily of large credits to their sort code through BACS and CHAPS. Branches and individual staff have savings attraction targets and these are easy pickings. The first thought in that persons head making the call is how can I get this into a savings account not, is this person money laundering. Obviously if something sounded not right, the relevant people would be notified but it is not the reason the call is being made. After a while sales staff become very narrow minded because of the pressure put on them to achieve. Frontline counter staff on the other hand tend to be right on the ball with this sort of thing, in fact I witnessed a prevented cheque fraud just the other week.

There are very clever and qualified people who work in preventing fraud, there HAS to be a reason, no matter how small, why the OPs cheques are being investigated. It may be that they are the unlucky beneficiary of fraudulent funds, an investigation has to take place to discover this. I agree that if it is specifically the cheques, the OP should be allowed to take their £100 odd that was in the account prior to the deposit(s) though. The bank can also be prosecuted for failing to report suspicious transactions and I can't blame them for the action they have taken.

So which bank do you work for?

The law says they MUST NOT TALK to the customer in respect of a money laundering check. Which bit of that do you not understand? I can see that you may think the law is wrong but surely you can understand what it is.

Give it a rest unlil you have read all my posts on this.

You keep repeating the same thing. We know now how you feel, and we sympathise. What are you doing now for money to live on until the bank returns your deposit?

That really sounds like the patronising thing a member of the bank staff would say.......because they don't really care.

You seem quite determined to continue agruements with others rather than help the OP.
Everything with you seems to be directed at trying to pull other people apart if they disagree with you, including the rather tiresome "I bet you work for them" line.
You need to spend more time on here reading rather than posting. Have a look at some similar threads and see what sort of post makes people look foolish, and what shows some ability to accept that people will not all agree with you but that you can move on past it.

Just a bit of advice.

Actually I want to help the OP, although many people in this forum are just making patronising, and unhelpful remarks, whilst trying to defend the bank.

The fact is that I know how poorly Barclays treat their customers, as I have been a victim.

And it is you who now looks foolish for not reading posts, because I was asking MME who actually told us they work in a bank. So don't try and give me your smug patronising advice.

The purpose of this is to not alert a potential offender. Don't you realise they've done exactly that by removing all the money from his account?

the reason he gave me too cheques was because i asked him to lend me 7k he said he could only lend me 4k because his boiler was on the blink but if it could be mended and not have to be replaced he would give me a further 3k .. so he gave me 4k first then few days later said its ok my boiler does not need replacing so then he gave me the other 3k which i banked a week later ... so everyone who puts two cheques into their accounts from a building society which were drafts then they cleared get there account wiped out to zero with no explaination lol its unbelievable .

    Exactly!!

If they had done it the way that Lloyds TSB do, then the OP would have been non the wiser.
