Hi guys heres an update .. contacted barclays head office this morning at 9.30 am, asked if if they could give me any updates about where my money was was told that investigation was still ongoing and that there were several people investigating the case, i asked what they were investigating is it fraud ? money laundering? the guy just told me he could not say but he would phone me when he knew ...i said when would that be as i had credit cards to pay off today ,.. he said it would DEFINITELY not be today or tommorow but maybe at the end of the week or next week but he could not promise ,i said to him that i made a complaint last thurssday and was told that i would get an answer within five days so not counting weekend it should be sorted by wed at the latest, he said that they will takle as long as they need and five days does not apply and i would just have to wait untill end of the week or early next week i was not happy but said ok ... Anyway ten minutes later i rang him back up as i have his direct number i told him that i had credit cards to pay and that i did not want to have any late payments on my credit file and told him if i do im going to be seriously upset i told him i was suicidal and there will be repercussions that if my credit cards could no be paid i dont know what i would do that i would probably kill myself and that my family know about the whole situation and if they find barclays at fault for my death they wil persue it and it will all be publisised, he just said that there was nothing he could do as the investigation was still ongoing and that it would take more time , he suggested if i felt deepressed and suicidal to go see my gp, i said but my gp not going to pay my debts he just said he was sorry nothing he could do and that i would have to wait till end of the week at least i just said ok im not happy and i put the phone down,.
Exactly 5 minuters later i recieved a witheld number phone call i answered and it was the same man from barclays head office that i had just been talking to he told me all my money has been put back into my account !!! I was very relieved but also bit dumbfounded , i said why did you take it in the first place he just said it was to do with administration and the phone call was ended . I checked my bank account and all the money has been returned, It seems very strange how five minutes he said it would definitely not be sorted in the next couple of days but maybe end of the week or next week as investigations were still needed to be done .. but within five minutes of me threatening suicide they have reurned all my money , i can only assume that there were no investigations to be done and they just did not want to return my money absolutelY appauling !!!

I am really glad you got your money back.

Sort out the debts, put the remainder somewhere safe.

Then invoke their formal complaints procedure. Hilight the expense (break it down line by line), anxiety and suffering to you and your familiy. Also hi light the fact that they capitulated without much effort.

    Good luck.

Very glad you got it all sorted - what happened is disgusting

To be honest I'm a little bit worried now - I will be getting a fairly large cheque from a firm of solicitors pretty soon (I have all letters from them stating what the cheque will be for) and am wondering whether I should pay it into another current account - really do not want Barclays taking all my money as well!

Perhaps they loaned it to BarCap to top up a big derivatives deal which has paid off so they've been able to pay you back?

whatever they did it just proves that they are complete liars they said that they did not know where it had gone and i had to wait at lest another 4 days to hear anything , as soon as i told them i was suicidal and that there would be repercussions they immediately phoned me saying thje money was back in my account so it was all lies .

OP, as others have said, you are probably best writing to them, and request an explanation. If you don't get one or it is carefully worded and skirts the subject, you will know it is likely to be SOCA, because they won't admit that SOCA were involved.
    Best Regards

It's really good that the OP has got their money back. It's a shame they had to go through so much stress.

You would think that it would be ok to tell the OP the reason once the investigation was over. After all it's not as if they are going to be tipping them off.

The guys on the phone are not allowed to divulge why it had been moved.

They are only following the legal requirements.

Like the style on the distress bit.

I am sure that made them prioritise a review of the case and when they realised it wasn't a problem they put it back. Shame they couldn't have been more careful at the outset.
