The way they deal with their customers will differ but the procedure for not tipping off will be the same. If i understand correctly, as you say, the main discussion has been about how badly Barclays have treated the OP. Money Laundering legislation is the same for everyone, it doesn't differ from bank to bank.

No, but they way they deal with their customers does.

Save me reading all of this as I caught the start of it the other day.

    Has he got it back?

Yes he has, but they were going to make him wait another week until he started saying that he was suicidal. Then all of a sudden they gave him his money back. :T

And that was the point I have made many times, but you have just defended Barclays.

Where have i defended Barclays ? It doesn't really matter anymore now does it, the OP will do whatever he has to do with Barclays, i don't hold out much hope of him getting any satisfaction. As i've said before, (if you'd read my posts that is) i've taken Barclays to the FOS and won, and i also said that i wouldn't work for Barclays for any amount of money. Defending Barclays, where did you get that from ?

I don't think anyone here has tried to defend Barclays in isolation other than to say they are following the legal requirements as all Banks have to.

I have said that the poor sop on the end of the phone can't divulge anything without the potential for eating HMP bangers and mash.

Two cases have positively been hilighted in this thread Barclays and Santander and pretty much the same path was followed by both.

Those that do know, have said that pretty much the same would have happened at other banks, that they have personal knowledge of, working from the inside. It is a legal obligation. Fraud and money laundering and the symptoms of such can happen at any level.

We have all acknowledged that the capitulation was farcical. The Op has his money back.

You don't like Barclays fair enough. I bet people could pick holes with all the Banks over some facet of their service at some point. They are all much of a muchness. I bet even Coutt's drop the ball occasionally too.

They all process many thousands of transactions each day with no problems at all.

    Look at the bigger picture.

Because you have said over and over again that they are just following legislation. Well they weren't just following legislation, they were using their interpretation of the legislation, which makes it extremely difficult and stressful for customers. I think the conclusion of the issue for the OP has proved that they could have carried out the investigation far quicker, and made the process far less painfull.

Why did Santander effectively do exactly the same?

IIRC don't think I have heard another customer express views from their bank.

I will accept they could have done it quicker maybe, but they didn't have to.
