    Hi all,
I am currently in the process of reclaiming my bank charges & have received a letter from the bank stating "Although the 40 day time period is almost up, due to high volume of requests we are not yet able to provide you with the information requested. Whilst you are within your rights to refer the matter to the information commissioner at the end of the 40 day period I confirm we shall provide you with the information as soon as we possibly can".

Are the banks just trying to drag this matter out because their 40 days are up on friday or shall I go ahead & report them?.

I look forward to hearing from anyone.

Check if you can access your statements online as you can with Lloyds and HSBC.

But please try not to take your frustration out on the person answering the phone :)

Hi, I've written to reclaim charges from several banks/credit card people, and only a couple have replied so far (it's been over 40 days). What do I do with the none reply types? Report them now or send another letter?

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Hi there

First time, so please bear with me!!!

I sent my letter to reclaim bank charges (from Martin's template) on 12th March, waited 40 days.........nothing. Phoned them to be told that they would chase this up and I would receive a list of bank charges within the week. Phoned within a week............to be told, that they could do nothing. The only tel number they had for the Data Protection Department of Halifax was 01422 391152 which is a recorded message saying "thank you for calling the Halifax, you will receive notification of your bank charges within 40 days" end of message. Have phoned customer complaints on to be told the same information. Aaagh!!

I have now waited for 52 days.

    Can anyone out there help?

Ps, they have not cashed £10.00 cheque yet.

    Thanks

go to local branch and explain your situation and say they have gone over the time limit and you want your charges emailing immediately and that you ll wait for them until they arrive mine turned up in 5 mins and they were free

it seems more people have more joy going into the branch than sending letters:A

    Hello
have sent two letters to Barclays requesting info on my bank charges. In response to the first one I had a reply stating that the bank would have to send me full copies of my bank statements but it would be with-in 40 days. That deadline passed and I wrote again saying I had received nothing from them and asking for a written explanation why.I gave them seven days to reply.Again I've had nothing.
I'm a bit stumped now on how to proceed and what the next step is.At present I'm struggling to get any info from Barclays let alone reclaim any charges

If you contact the Post Office they can give you an address to write to. They respond in about a week.

I requested my statements from the data protection team at Barclaycard 2 months ago.

A month ago i got a reply saying they needed a cheque made out to 'barclays plc' for £10. I sent this and today some statements finally arrived.

However...they only sent 2004 onwards - claiming that prior to this all their records are on microfilm and not subject to the 'Data Protection Act', but they are willing to send them anyway within the next 8 weeks.

This can't be right. Unfortunately for me most of my claim will be prior to 2004 charges!!!! Very convenient on Barclaycard's side.

Anyone else have this problem and does anyone have any advice about what to do? It looks like I have to wait 4 months for my statements now instead of the usual 40 days.

Hey, no need for me to chase up the postal order the paper work come thru about an hour ago.
    Many thanks for you reply.

One thing that got me is they only gave me 3 years worth an not 6.
my bank account has been open since 2001.
They said it had something to do with the files being archived an because there was a period of no charges they didnt bother digging up the older files.
Do i stick with the 3 years or get the rest of the charges?
