Have asked my bank 3 times for a list of bank charges (over the phone), every time i phone back and ask them whats taking so long they say that they have never had a request for my bank charges even though they have taken the money out of my account for the statements. What should i do???
  • I recently sent letters to my bank asking for details of bank charges as per letter template provided on the web-site. The bank replied with a letter saying that they were not going to give me any charges back even though i HADNT ASKED THEM FOR THEM BACK ! only to provide me with the details of the charges. Can this be used against the bank since i havent asked them to refund my charges
Then i recieved a letter saying that they had recieved my $10 fee and would forward the information in due course.
This week i recieved a letter saying that the 40 days was nearly up and that they were unable to provide me with the information on time.
Are these just stalling tactics or are the banks really struggling to cope

Report them to the Information Commissioner once the original 40 days are up.

Speak to your local branch, the bank's complaints/customer service department and their head office, I would do this daily until you find someone who will deal with your request for the information/statements.

But please try not to take your frustration out on the person answering the phone :)

Check if you can access your statements online as you can with Lloyds and HSBC.
  • has anyone actually reported the banks to the info commisioner or just threatened it? I've written to Natwest and Barclays for details of charges and they've got till 10th May to provide them. Barclays wrote back saying they would provide my statements free of charge (my cheque was isent back) within the 40days. Natwest i have heard nothing from and they haven't cashed in my cheque yet either so bit concerned bout them but they have still got just over a week!

Its just with everyone threatening to report them yet not doing them prob makes them think whats the point in doing it in da 40days if their not gonna get done for it!

  • Hi
after seeing this web site i took the plunge and wrote to my bank requesting a list of the charges that have been taken from my account over the last 6 years.

That was 50 days ago, my bank the halifax have cashed the cheque 3 weeks ago so i know they have got the letter. I also hand delivered the letter.

I rang the information commisioner and they have advised to make a complaint against the Halifax which i am now doing. Should i write to the bank and inform them i have made a complaint and generally chase them up.

    thanks
  • I sent off the template letter asking for list of default charges paid over last 6 years and had no reply after the 40 days. Followed this with a phone call and was told they were refunding my £10 as this wasn't required for them to send out bank statements for last 6 years. Also told they would put a claim form in the post and was given a ref number, statements would follow in 6 weeks. Two days later got standard complaints letter saying they were looking into my complaint and would contact me before 20th may! What should I do now.
  • Hi Have You Got Coppies Off Your Bank Statements If You Have Use The Calculater To Work Out How Much They Owe You

If Not Ring Them Up And Demand That They Send You Coppies Off All Your Bank Statements Going Back 6 Years They Can't With Hold Them From You Give Them 14 Days To Send Them .

If They Wont Get In Contact With The Banking Ombudsman

It Is A Delaying Tactic That They Are Useing You Set The Time Limit Not Them And Stick To It

Hope This Helps ( Dave )
 ITS A FAR BETER THING I DO NOW THAN I HAVE EVER DONE BEFORE

From an earlier thread where Yorkshire Bank have delayed providing statements, it was suggested that I report them to the commissioner.
Could someone provide details of how I should do this please.
    thanks in advance
