done with your telling off? Do you feel better about yourself now?

Yes I have seen the adverts but haven't paid attention to it because I wasn't interested in the least - not interested in giving some other people detailed info about myself. And I didn't think it was compulsory and that they even bullied you with the threat of a fine - infos about myself are mine to share if you allow me to say so!

So this is my explanation, hope it doesn't ruin your state of elatedness and perfection you have reached after replying to my post.

I feel much better now. I mean its not like you could have missed it really is it but you appear to have done so.. Bus stop hoardings, newspaper adverts tv ads everything really and even on the form itself.

    Im so pleased for you.

P.S this thread has delivered the best laugh ive had on here in ages.. well funny stuff

Still haven't done mine. Just feel no hurry, as feel the government are nosey barstewards. I will eventually though, as don't want to get issued a £1000 fine.

A quick google has come up with this which makes for interesting reading.

So, although you will eventually do it, you are quite willing to allow the government to spend, a not inconsiderable amount of my money, on chasing you to do it?

Oh and by the way, ignore what you have read on that site, it is complete nonsense. Defacing the form may be considered the same as refusing to complete it, or providing false information. Lieing to a census collector is not a good idea either. If you won't confirm that you have received your form, they will offer you another. If you don't take it, you will be marked down as refusing to complete it; so expect to receive a thousand pound fine.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Sadly if this government gets its way it'll be the last...I also do family history and census are a real gem.
But on a serious note...your local council gets central government funding based on how many people are in their area...so if your not counted, your council will not get money for you.

Which is the reason why CamerWrong wants to dispense with the census. He wants funding to be controlled by central government...so much for small government.

Actually, it was a tad more detailed than that! They also wanted to know how well qualified (or not) the residents and visitors were ... OK, I can perhaps see the relevance of that ... but why the question about what tasks the residents and visitors carried out during their working day? (Actually my response would have skewed The Results a bit: I have post-graduate qualifications, but I've been employed as a cleaner for years!)

And this is the very reason why the government need this information. If PGs are not using their qualifications, they need to know why and how to meet the future needs of education and employment.

The reason for asking what work you carry out, is to differentiate between different jobs with the same name. For example, simply calling oneself a consultant, is not sufficient information to establish what work the consultant does. They could be a doctor, or a management consultant.
Also I'm not quite sure why the census/arms-dealing bods wanted to know the name and address of my employer?

No they didn't, they only asked for the name of the employer.
I think what irritated a lot of people was the rather heavy-handed "do as you're told or we'll fine you £1000" approach ... rather than a reluctance to disclose their ethnicity, or mode of travel to work etc.

I rather they did that than have all and sundry (as in the OP) using ignorance of the consequences as an excuse for refusing to complete the census questionnaire.
If someone REALLY wanted to protest about the complusory census, then rather than risk being fined for non-completion of the form they ought to have entered really bizarre fictitious answers! ;)

This will help avoid a fine. Providing false information on the census form is and offence and will attract a maximum fine of one thousand pounds.

The key words are may/could and up to so I am afraid this claim is misinformation. ;)
