The census is after me?

I've learnt one thing from this thread. I'm never buying an American keyboard because it will make me a laughing stock and people will be unpleasant to me when all I'm trying to do is \zzx;lcjsdfpojpzcjewsjcpc them.

You've learned a valuable lesson then.
Seriously though, having an American keyboard, qwerty or non-qwerty, has sod all to do with it. A computer, including the keyboard, is only as stupid as the person using it. Blaming your keyboard for one's own spelling and grammar mistakes really is just sad. And there's nothing wrong with taking a little time to proofread before hitting the submit button.Dec GC; £208.79/£220

Just for info:
After next week you won't get a nice old/young lady at your door asking politely after the whereabouts of your census form - you will get two "heavies" - they mean business with this census.
I suggest flexrider makes sure he has £1000 to hand he will need it........:rotfl:0 -
A quick plea to anyone who hasn't yet filled in their census... and for purely selfish reasons

Even if you only give name, age and occupation, please do complete the form. Countless family historians will be extremely grateful to you!0 -
Oh, not that good old reason, huh? Which, as you said, is very flawedHow would anyone possibly know they don't like your replies unless they read them??
You definitely can't judge whether you like/dislike something unless you read it, watch it, listen to it, or experience it... :rotfl:0 -

Sadly if this government gets its way it'll be the last...I also do family history and census are a real gem.
But on a serious note...your local council gets central government funding based on how many people are in their area...so if your not counted, your council will not get money for you.GC - Oct £36.17/£31

Actually, it was a tad more detailed than that! They also wanted to know how well qualified (or not) the residents and visitors were ... OK, I can perhaps see the relevance of that ... but why the question about what tasks the residents and visitors carried out during their working day? (Actually my response would have skewed The Results a bit: I have post-graduate qualifications, but I've been employed as a cleaner for years!) Also I'm not quite sure why the census/arms-dealing bods wanted to know the name and address of my employer?
I think what irritated a lot of people was the rather heavy-handed "do as you're told or we'll fine you £1000" approach ... rather than a reluctance to disclose their ethnicity, or mode of travel to work etc.
If someone REALLY wanted to protest about the complusory census, then rather than risk being fined for non-completion of the form they ought to have entered really bizarre fictitious answers!

First the possible fine is up to £1000. Which is not the same as being £1,000. Again it's not a definite. Note use of words like 'could' and 'may'.
Secondly by asking unnecessaryintrusive questions, involving Lockheed Martin and coming over all heavy - the government just shot itself in the foot. You might be surprised to know that there is a deal of 'non compliance' - from pillars of society even. They are not all rabid tin foil hat conspiracy nuts. If the government follows through in every case, the courts are going to be full of people giving them some very unwelcome publicity with both moral and legal arguments.
Should be interesting.0 -
I personally don't see what the issue is, 99% of what was on the census form would be easy to find out anyway, I don't care who knows what my ethnicity is, or how I get about, and I'm more than happy to admit that I have no disabilities and that I got 11 GCSE's and 5 AS Levels.
No-one had to put anything such as bank details, card number, or passwords on their census form. Why not just fill it in? Maybe one day, a century or two from now, someone will be researching their ancestry, and be glad you filled it in.
To be honest, I doubt Lockheed Martin could give two shiny sh*ts about who you are.0 -
I filled out the Census form online before the end of the first cut off date.
We had a knock at our door last week from the Census people asking me to fill out our form,i quite obviously looked very confused and asked the lady to excuse me a moment...i went back inside the house and got the unique code that you get after completion online and showed her this,at that point she realised that she had the correct house number, only she had the wrong street.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0
