And yet again, another poorly judged conclusion.

In YOUR opinion!

She feels free to complain about Sainsbury's, but they have no right to complain about her causing them problems?

Don't do FAIR do you flyboy?

Many years ago when I was a young mother I didn't have enough money for what was in my trolley in Sainsburys. I had to remove a few things at the till until I had left what I could pay for. :o The assistant could not have been lovelier and asked if I had enough left to pay for my busfare home.

As I'd walked there with my baby in her pram (in those days you could push a pram around the shop), this was not necessary but it left me with such a good impression of Sainsburys.

I'm still not sure how she thought I could get a pram onto a bus though, even pushchairs had to be folded and carried on! Things are so much easier now with accessable buses.

And as usual it all boils down to the MSE holier-than-thous, deciding and passing judgement about what another has the right to complain about......and you wonder why the OP hasn't come back, flipping priceless. :wall:

Actually, Flyboy, if anyone has caused the OP not to come back - it's YOU!

I asked what I believed were perfectly reasonable, polite questions here:

What bags are you talking about?

The free plastic ones, the re-usable 10p plastic ones or your own bags?

and here:

I'd like the OP to answer this so we can understand the depth of this issue.

I'd also like to know if the woman the OP spoke to was on the Customer Services desk.
I suspect not as she says 'she just walked away'.

Maybe 'this woman' didn't have a clue what the OP was talking about.
Maybe she advised the OP to ask at Customer Services but the OP didn't hear her.

You then decided to be 'smart' with THIS comment:
Flyboy152 wrote: »
OP asked where her bags were, I would have thought that was a bit of a clue.

So, I explained that I didn't think the OP had been very clear in explaining the situation:
Pollycat wrote: »
Well YOU might think so, but (imho) the OP isn't that great at explaining things so maybe 'this woman' that the OP asked had the same problem as me!

You then decided I was "nitpicking", being pedantic and somehow pointing out the OP's poor grammar or spelling.
I wasn't - unlike you, who seems to always believe what you read on here - I like to ask questions to get more details.

I think YOU have done this poster a disservice by your replies to (most of) the other posters.

FWIW - I DON'T have a holier-than-thou attitude about complaints, I don't decide who can complain and what about, and I don't pass judgement.
I just like to know the full facts BEFORE jumping in and bashing the company that's allegedly (based on what a poster says) in the wrong.

Maybe if you did the same, you wouldn't feel the need to :wall:.

I think the way you post Flyboy passes judgement on many situations on this board. Many times without full information, and almost always without both sides of a story.

Hi all,

Not only has the thread drifted off topic (advice for the OP) but is moving on from a "vigorous debate" to a "full and frank exchange of views".

Wow, sorry for not coming back earlier... didn't expect this post to cause so much controversy...
anyway first of all, sorry about my english, as it is not my first language but i will try my best to explain everything I can.
the bag that I left with them was actually the free bag that i got from supersavvyme a few months ago which i really liked. i was annoyed that they lost it or threw it out without apologising. Since the bag i got was free, i never asked for compensation but sometimes something are worth more than their actual 'value'.
Basically when I went back there the next day, i explained that to one of the staff and then they referred me to this other woman... anyway i think it wasn't her best day, so her tone wasn't the best and i must say, i was never rude at any time (well i am sure someone is going to say, 'that's why you say').
Anyway, I was really upset at that time and made the complaint immediately when i got home.
I don't think i am going to pursue this complaint further as i have made my points to the customer service and they can decide what they want to do... i guess i am just curious and nosy and want to know what the outcome of the investigation is...
I know this may sound stupid for some of you to complain about this, but you wouldn't understand how i felt at that time because it wasn't you. i guess it was stupid of me to like my bag so much!
that's all i want to say, you can say i am stupid for doing this but that's what i decided to do and i didn't think it was a stupid complaint to make.

Always worth complaining. In the worst case Sainsburys will not uphold your complaint but hopefully you will get a satisfactory outcome.

I note your comments above. However, in the event that Sainsburys customer services do not provide a satisfactory response, I suggest that you try escalating or complaining to Justin King, Sainsburys Chief Executive, via sending him an email at justin.king@sainsburys.co.uk.

Worth a go and good luck.

I think you were quite right to ask for you bags, OP, and it's a shame somebody hadn't thought of hanging on to them for you.

I expect they just looked like ordinary plastic shopping bags to whoever it was who emptied them and put the stock back.

However, it's not acceptable for staff - especially customer service staff for goodness sake! - to just walk away from a politely put, reasonable question. Only you can judge whether the situation deserves complaining about again - the rest of us weren't there and for all our pontifications we can't really judge.

I work in a shop myself and would be in big trouble if I treated a customer so off-handedly. And believe me, we get much madder requests than yours where I work.

I'm sure i got an email last week telling me they were giving them away again. Perhaps worthwhile checking to see if they have any left?

Thanks for the clarification - just one more question....
Was 'this other woman' on the Customer Services desk or part of the CS team?

If not, you really should have dealt with CS - that's what they are there for.

I think Sainsbury's were wrong:
1. to lead you to believe your shopping would be waiting for you when you returned - although if you really think about it, if you'd got meat, dairy, bread or other perishables it's not really practical to keep them 'back of house' as they may 'go off'
2. not to give you your bag back when you found you couldn't pay for your shopping
However, '2' assumes that the staff on the till know that goods are NOT kept for you.

I personally wouldn't have gone to the trouble to complain about this, but it's your prerogative to complain if you feel you have cause.

I think the reply from Sainsbury's could have been better worded, including the promise that they will undertake to train their till staff about what happens when a customer is unable to pay.

I'm not sure where the Data Protection bit comes in - unless you were specifically complaining about a certain person by name and you wanted to know exactly what they'd done/said to her.
