Complaint to Sainsbury

I made a complaint about something that happened to me in our local store 2 weeks ago and since I have yet to hear from them, i wrote them an email in the weekend to remind them and they replied with the following:

Thanks for your email. I’m sorry that you’ve not heard anything from the Store Manager in regards to the issues you raised. I understand your frustration as you want to know the outcome of this situation.
I’d like to advise you that when we receive complaints of this nature, we perform extensive investigations which can take up to 6 weeks to complete. This is due to the number of procedures that must be performed.
I’d also like to mention that due to Data Protection we’re unable to divulge any information in regards to the outcome of the investigation, as this would involve releasing confidential details about my colleague.
I’d like to assure you however, that we take all feedback extremely seriously and that your complaint will be given the greatest concern.
We’re grateful to you for contacting us and we look forward to seeing you in store again soon.


So how am I supposed to know that if they have ever carried out an investigation or not as we will never find out due to data protection? I just want to know what they have done to improve?

    I was shopping there the other day and after having all the stuff checked out at the self service check out, i realised i didn't have my purse with me. i told the attendant what to do as it was the first time it ever happended to me. she said i could come back later but as i didn't live locally, i said i would rather pick it up the next day and she said it was fine.

    came back the next day, asked someone and this woman told me that they don't keep them overnight, they would have been put back on the shelf or something.

    didn't mind that too much as i didn't pay for the items, but i used my own bags and left that with them as well, i asked the woman where my bags are, she said she couldn't find them and just walked away... first was annoyed at the attitude of the woman and second, they threw my bags out... they should have just told me earlier then i would have taken my bags with me, but obviously made a mistake in trusting them... now i lost my bags and being treated rudely :(

    What bags are you talking about?

    The free plastic ones, the re-usable 10p plastic ones or your own bags?

    You really made a complaint about this? Did they complain to you about having a menber of staff spend time putting all the stuff back on the shelfs that you couldn't pay for.
    You made the problem and abandoned your bags, what did you expect.

    Anyone is at liberty to complain about anything they wish. The OP feels she was treated rudely and unfairly, why shouldn't she complain?

    The trouble is, too many people are far too lazy when it comes to confronting rudeness in supermarkets and this is shown by the trend that it is becoming more commonplace. If this standard of service is not addressed, it is just going to gt a lot worse.

    All that will happen here is they'll just stop people leaving things overnight because of whats happend. The op would have just complained about that instead. It's not a case of things will get worse, what will probably happen when people complain about things like this more red tape will come in and people will stop using goodwill incase something goes wrong then someone complains.

    This needs to be answered.

    Now the bit about data protection is that they cannot divulge to you any outcome of possible disciplinary action that may have arisen from their investigation as quite frankly it has nothing to do with you.

    If they get back to you and they were bag for life bags or your own bags then just ask the manager to replace them.

  • People seem to slag of Tesco with unrelenting enthusiasm but I have to say I find Sainsbury staff the best at being rude! And no, I am not an evil shopper or a nasty person I have worked in the service industry and am always polite and nice to people:D

    If they were expensive bags I would have asked to see the manager there and then to complain - I think after the event is maybe a bit too late although you have highlighted it so it will be against the employee. TBH - I would let it go, sometimes you have to choose your battles and it seems to be winding you up so just put it down to a bad day at the supermarket!

    Not very good though but maybe the lady was told by someone else they couldn't keep the shopping overnight and she wasn't aware?

    Err....OP you created the problem by forgeting the purse and you complained?!

    But they don't allow that anyway, they put the items back on the shelf. But I don't see how the fact he OP wants to make a complaint bout the attitude of the staff will have any effect on leaving ones shopping behind.

    The "red tape" is nothing more than a smoke screen. They are just hoping that the customers won't follow up any complaints. The "adherence" to a myth regarding the DPA, is a prime example of that.
