Hmmm... I have a new Clarity card, but it is one of the 5286 ones. The terms and conditions that came with the card included the clause about the £5 reward though, so it will be interesting to see if it appears in my account next month.

I can confirm that my Clarity card starting 5286 has just been upgraded to the Clarity Reward card by telephoning and speaking to their loyalty department.

Worth giving it a go if you got the Clarity credit card before your Reward current account!

Thanks Olly-I've just phoned Halifax to check and they've done the same for me.

Kinda off on a tangent but I've discovered each type have different payment details.

The older ones starting 5286 use Bank of Scotland (80-xx-xx) details and the newer ones starting 5253 use Lloyds TSB details (77-xx-xx).

I asked about this when I activated my card. It appears that although they were aware I had a rewards current account they have to email the appropriate department to get it sorted! My card starts with 5286.
  • I had originally applied online but my agreement "got lost in the post" (love the irony!). But turned out better for me because i got offered a lower interest rate in branch than i did online!

I called them last week and was told that my card should have been upgraded automatically to a reward card. It wasn't the case so they upgraded it for me on the phone. Waiting to see if I will receive the reward this month.

Did Halifax send you any documents after your card has been upgraded? I guess you should have received a new T&C.

No they didn't, the T&C I was originally issued with included the clause about the reward anyway. All very confusing, that's why I phoned the Halifax to check. The £5 appeared in my account shortly after I received last month's statement, together with another £5 goodwill payment which I wasn't expecting.

    Hi,

I have a Rewards current account and a Clarity credit card.

I phoned Halifax about one week ago to ask them to upgrade my Clarity card to the Rewards Clarity card and I was told that:
    - Upgrading the Clarity card to the Rewards Clarity card was not possible.
    - I had to cancel the existing Clarity card and re-apply for the Rewards Clarity card.
I told the nice lady that I would consider doing so and that I'd call them back.

Today I have phoned Halifax again and, when another nice lady has answered the phone, I've kindly and directly asked her to put me through to the Loyalty department without giving her any reason.
Immediately she has asked my why I wanted to talk to the Loyalty department and I've said that:
    - I have a Rewards current account.
    - I have a Clarity credit card.
    - I want my Clarity card upgraded to the Rewards Clarity card.
    - I've been told that I need to talk to the Loyalty department to have this sorted out.

    She has told me that:
    - I don't need to talk to the Loyalty department.
    - She can send an email to the Loyalty department on my behalf asking them to upgrade my Clarity card to a Rewards Clarity card.
    - The process usually takes a couple of working days.

Obviously when she has asked me if I wanted to proceed I've said yes.
The total duration of the call including the automated security check has been under 4 minutes.

While having to cancel the Clarity card and re-apply for the Rewards Clarity card probably puts most people off going through that hassle, if you very nicely but also firmly and directly ask to talk to the Loyalty department they probably understand that you're ready to do it, in which case they seem to be less reluctant to apply the upgrade.
I suspect that Loyalty department is the nice name for cancellations (or account closure) department.

If that still doesn't work and you're still told that you need to cancel and re-apply, just answer that you'll consider doing so and that you'll come back to them, and try again in a week.
You'll hopefully come across the nice lady that will request the upgrade for you.

    Good luck!
