blackmidnight, i think the place has already become a big mess :(

I really dont understand the problem. There was a vote, and the majority said they wanted all comps with an end date to go onto the main board.

There were more discussions, and it was decided that all comps with an end date should be on the main board. Those that can be entered daily can be linked to the daily board, those that can be entered weekly can be linked to the weekly thread.

If a comp has no end date you guess, and add guessedenddate.

All comps that need a 'tag' should be tagged ie Facebook, Blog, Twitter, Effort etc.

The Monthly board is being replaced as the majority of monthly competitions have an end date and so can be posted on the main board, as voted for by the majority.

Any comps that have can be entered only once, such as a newsletter sign up or enter once and you are in futher draws will be popped into the Monthly threads replacement, ONCEONLY or ONGOING.

Now, i thought this had been decided, and a test period agreed on and this was starting from the 1st April. I am now very confussed about competitions that have an end date being moved from the main board onto (the ones ive seen) the Weekly board. It was explained to me that although they do have end dates, they dont have an absolute end date, so that means the end dates they already have are moot, and they should be put on the regular boards rather than the main board.
I find this confussing, silly and annoying - and from the 'Daily Mail Bag' thread so do others. Why, after so much discussion has what has been agreed being disregarded completely and a whole different set of rules being used?

The highlighted bit is spot on!

Thanks for the explanation but how on earth does that make any sense?!? They have an end date!! It is the same day that they are posted for the dailymail bag one! That is the absolute end date! It's irrelevant that they happen to run the comp on a pretty much weekly basis.

As the vote decided - it has an end date -leave it on main! Things were fine before - now everyone is confused, there are aparently rules that the majority voted on and has agreed to but they aren't being followed?!

Why oh why did they remove the confused smily!

Thanks blackmidnight - I think it all still stems from definition of ongoing - so one extreme of the definition has been used for monthlies (it has an end date - the end of the month) and the other extreme of the definition for weeklies (it is regular because it is every week). I can see both sides of the coin so think it's fair that each extreme gets "their own way" with one type, but I would have preferred something middle ground and consistent for both that we could all agree on. Isn't this what a compromise is though?

I've had enough of all this too. I hate tension and how this board feels now as much as the rest of you. This all seems so avoidable if we could only have discussed things like grown ups and come to acceptable (or majority decision) middle ground.

And seeing all the comments on the thread in question today about a small group of dictators:
    1) If anyone includes me in that or thinks I started this by being one of the people who asked for a definition of regular all these months ago, I think the people that really started this are the ones who knowingly duped comps from regs to main so more could see them instead of just asking for them to be moved....because if those people had behaved the same way as the rest of us do on here this would never have started as I, and others, would never have needed to ask
    2) I haven't dictated one single thing, barring asking for not duping to be in the rules. I've made suggestions and stated my preferences same as lots of people, the people saying that included, but I've never said I wouldn't go with what was decided and I don't think it's necessary to be rude. Sorry.

So can i just check something? We're changing the rules, that were decided on only last week, again? :mad:I only pop in here every couple of days ( too busy trying to catch up with comps the rest of the time!) and I'd thought it was sorted, but I look today and it seems to be all up in the air again.
We all only have a finite time to comp, there will always be some we miss out on, and as someone else said we take responsibility for the way we choose to comp. I'm a mains only comper, because I can't be doing with the 'click here, now click here to get to the link, now click here to get to the comp' routine. I like to click one link and there's my comp, and I am quite happy with the fact that I miss out on some comps, but I'm not happy with the fact that other people like me are now going to miss out on ones like The daily mail bag one. Of Course it's got an end date, because you can't enter it the next week to win that bag. I can see why it would seem to have no end date, but why move it? Why have the rules that were agreed on only last week been chaged again? We're never all going to agree, but we don't appear to have even given it a chance...:(

The rules are not changing minty, they have been clarified this afternoon. I think confusion came over just a few comps but that is sorted now.

Once again, I am very glad I have been cyber shopping for our hols and the baby today. I've tried to catch up with the threads, and think I've got the idea :(

I also hope that I am not classed as one of a group of peeps changing things for no reason :(

I have to say, that possibly the comps linked to may have been moved back if we had explained calmly, I don't think they fit as a reg with no overall end date, because of the prize changing. But we never 100% agreed that a new prize meant a new comp, which is what I have always felt to be true. However the Daily Mail Bag one is a weird one, with such a limited time thats its open, so in cases like that I find them easier to enter with from a single thread whether on main or regs, that gets updated, ifywim.

I am sorry if my attempt to pull together any guidelines trod on anyone's toes, as that was not my intention. I just wanted to help. :o
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

Our Precious Baby Tianna has now joined our Family, she is much loved and very welcome, xxx

    please read this thread first

when MSE Andrea said she couldn't write the comps rule and asked members to write it themselves and ask a BG to sticky it, I started this thread for ideas, very few people came up with ideas and none wanted exactly the same, so I wrote a guideline based on a compromise and pm'd it to some members from opposite ends of the opinions, all said it would be a compromise and was middle ground, although I felt it was biased towards mains compers as there are more of them
it gave the main board every single monthly comp, all dailies and weeklies which ran until a set date, all mags comps, all comps with odd end dates eg scifi comps, all tv comps because they tend to run for duration of a series or have odd breaks sometimes like the ITV ones

so regs board would only have ongoing dailies and weeklies and I wrote in the guideline that daily or weekly drawn comps where the promotion was ongoing, would be on regs in an ongoing thread with an update for each prize/answer change
so according to that guideline the daily mail mag comp fitted on regs, it would only have been a few comps moving to regs but because they are popular ones they have caused todays upset, they are however similar to comps that have been in regs for some time, it was just applying the same guideline to all similar comps
I only wish the people that have posted in the daily mail bag comp today had joined in here so we knew what they wanted too

it wasn't even set in stone forever, it was trial with option of having all weeklies on main board in the future too, I just wanted to move the monthlies first so people could see how it worked

I can't believe that moving a competition thread from one board on a forum to another would incite the hatred that has been directed toward me today here and elsewhere on the internet

I have to agree now with Andrea I don't understand what you guys want at all and I'd rather jump than be hung

I really was just trying to help folks :o

*Most enter competitions from main (or regs) and do not go to any other threads or see polls etc so don't know something is changing until it is done. I would guess that before today well under 5% of users had made any comment on the "change" thread and certainly less than 50% of active compers voted in any of the polls.

**unacceptable behaviour and no one should be subjected to it....This part of the forum should be about helping others/a bit of fun/celebrating winners.
