Sometimes I agree with Diva and Dalkirst that it would be better to go back to how it used to be, sometimes I agree with Glad, that a compromise that would help everyone could be worked out

how it used to be was that we had regs and things where posted over there. then people started complaining that comps were being "hidden" so they started duping comps that were already in regs on main, over and over again and conplaining when they got merged. to the point that the only bg then who was doing much of anything on here got fed up of being moaned at and quit merging. thus the duping problem got even worse. we had all sorts of issues and it was decided we needed another more hands on bg to help out, because some of the others, for whatever reason were not here very much and even main merges were not being done.....there were heaps and heaps of posts saying merge request sent that had not been merged by the end date.

so glad came in and instead of ignoring the complaints about dupes listened and tried to sort something.

of course apparently the only person who ever wanted regs board, or ever complained about regs being duped on main is me :rotfl:

all i ant is some damm consisitancy! instead of this comp being posted on regs by person x and person y complaining it should be on main, or vice versa, or different people using different rules i want the same darn rule applied to the same comps! apparently that makes me a dictator, makes me someone who should be chased away and
It's not over yet, we will beath the !!!!! yes PCL I do mean you if you get shown this

so yeah thats how it used to be. and thats how it is now because some of us dont spit are dummies and throw massive temper tantrums every time we dont like something, some of us even know and understand the word compromise....which a lot of people it seems dont.

going by divas post yesterday (re classic comp), all new prizes even on a daily basis are to get a new thread with that days end date, as are all one day comps. once that is written officially somewhere ill sort the daily thread and remove them all.

consistancy will remove the duping risk and do away with any confusion.

its a great shame people who were well aware of this thread didnt choose to join in the discussions before now:cool:

all that to say, no can we please not go back to how it was before....instead can we have a clear and consistant rule that is FOLLOWED AND APPLIED BY EVERYONE and not just some? please?

I just wish things could go back to mse being a happy place to be like it used to be.

I dont really understand whats meant to go where anymore. I thought I did but then my understanding of the new rules is the same as comping cats and there have been instances where things have happened with comps that to my way of thinking have contradicted the rules. Yesterdays daily mail one for example. I think where people have got angry its been more because rules have been put in place and seemingly broken straight away (I appreciate its all about how you interpret the rules though as to who is right and who is wrong).

At the end of the day though for me there are usually more than enough competitions on the main board to keep me busy anyway. I very rarely venture into regulars as I always run out of time but I do try to look at dailys every now and then. I dont get stressed about comps i've missed, probably wouldnt have won them anyway lol !!!

I wouldnt want to be a BG on these boards for any amount of money at the moment, let alone give up my time for free. I think people need to remember you can't please all of the people all of the time and there are an awful lot of people who use these boards. Theres always going to be conflict, but there are ways and means of expressing disagreement. I myself find that sometimes I agree with one side and sometimes I agree with another.

Isnt it always the case in life that people tend to rebel against change, even if its for the better sometimes. Also change takes time to implement too and needs to be given a chance to see if it does or doesnt work. Yes it might mean some people have to make adjustments to the way they use the boards, myself included but the comps are still all there somewhere, just arranged differently. Until I get used to it I have no doubt I will miss a few comps here and there but hey on the plus side I might find a few I didnt know were ever there in the first place!

I agree Purplecatlover (how did you arrive at that name btw? I have visions of you surrounded by lots of cats you have dyed purple lol !!), the key is when the rules are finally decided upon that they are clear and that theres nothing open to interpretation which seems to be a problem at the moment and that regardless of if people agree with them or not that they are followed consistently. Then in time people will hopefully get used to how things work and there hopefully should be less conflict.. in theory anyway! Clear and consistently applied rules should be the way forward.

    Works for me Toniq x

What would really help me is if there was a guide to using the regulars board as to be honest what puts me off about venturing in there is I never know how to approach it, what the most efficient way to use that part of the board is and just generally how it works and what goes where. I tend to find when I do go in there I don't know where to start or how to track what I have done and where I am up to. Would love some tips off people who use regulars.

  • I feel for Glad in all this I really do, neither she (or anyone else for that matter) deserves any of the awful comments that have been made, or the witch-hunt to try and have them 'removed' :(

All along the way she's asked for peoples advice and opinions and tried to do what's best from all of the opinions and ideas that she's seen. I can understand why some people chose not to get involved, but people have got to understand that Glad could only work with what she was given, if people chose not to get involved for whatever reason and then got something different to what they wanted because the people that did get involved wanted that something different, Glad can't be blamed for that, she's not a mind reader, she can only go by whats been put infront of her.

Although on saying that, it does seem that everything is interpreted differently by different people, so what some people thought the new guidelines meant, isn't what other people thought they meant and vice versa, but again, Glad tried her best to explain things, but because it's been interpreted differently from what she meant, doesn't mean that what she did was wrong, it just means that the confusion was still there without realising it until yesterday's blow up.

I can also understand the confusion about the bag comp, from both sides, and the other ones which can only be entered on one day of the week, it's very difficult to interpret them, but I do agree that they'd probably be better posted on that specific day for that specific day each time, although then they would probably end up being posted with the next days end date (which is fine if (00.01) is added after the end date as they'd all be bunched together at the beginning of the next days ending, so it's really quick to check, but not so good as has been happening more frequently when it's only mentioned within the post as it means checking everything that you haven't already entered for that next days ending) because they would get 'sent to game over too early' which is another frequent complaint that has come up, so they'd need to be at least mentioned somewhere else, like they are currently on the dailies, probably with direct links, so as people that don't work as soon as things are posted get to enter them too?

With the weeklies such as TV News, that's where it gets complicated, it was always my preference to have these ones posted each week, but I would also include all of the other weekly prize comps in that, because they also have individual 'competition' end dates of one day each week too, but the ones with end dates get posted with the 'promotion' end date (the final weeks end date) so you can see why it was felt that if those ones were being posted that way then the 'ongoing' ones needed to be posted as ongoing just to keep everything in line?

If things like TV News are going to continue be posted afresh each week, I'm not sure the link needs sending to the weeklies, maybe the weeklies could have a direct link to the site or just the site name so it's not forgotten instead as it's not really fair to ask Gilla to change the link each week? (Especially seeing as there were a lot of other competitions that could be classed as weekly [that were mentioned on the earlier pages of this thread] that get posted afresh each week that aren't mentioned on the weekly thread at all at the moment? If they were all to be added to weeklies each week too it would be a big job every week just to change the links over, let alone adding any of the totally new comps.)

But most of all I just want all the infighting and blaming culture that seems to be rife to stop, instead of blaming each other and acting like other people are the enemy that need to be fought, lets just accept that it was just another whole lot of confusion that's caused yet another lot of heartache and find a way past it. And although I do think that sometimes once certain things are said, there's no going back as it's just too hard to forgive and forget, maybe we can all find a common ground somehow and move on from all of this?

The rules weren't broken. They were interpreted differently by different people. Same as has been happening for MONTHS.
But I cba arguing the toss on it, if you all want everything on main and it stops all the name calling and totally unneccessary OTT nastiness then fine.

In answer to the one day a week every week comps, I would rather have them as ongoing threads (on main is fine) so they don't get missed every few weeks. But if that isn't allowed can we please at least be allowed to keep a plain text site name on the daily sticky. At least that gives those of us that don't live on FB/twitter 24/7 something to search for on MSE as we run through the dailies and day specific comps. Because I thought this place was to help everyone comp and that would help people like me, without meaning I could dupe, as those ones don't often get posted because they move too fast, or whatever the reason...

I thought the one and only thing that pretty much everyone (few exceptions I'm sure) wants is dailies to be ongoing threads, new answer or otherwise? (hence everyone going mad when Andrea said EVERYTHING had to be posted anew regardless). Is that not the case now? Are dailies being posted each day if the prize changes? Like the one people are mentioning above? Or on an ongoing thread? Like the Argos one? Can whoever knows please tell me in case I find something similar so I can avoid being pounced on. Thanks.

Finally, this is (was) a community where we all tried to get along and help each other, not just ourselves, once upon a time not so very long ago. We don't all have to think the same to get along and IMHO we definitely don't need to stoop to yesterdays lows of name calling and the various things I've been pointed to on Twitter to make a point.

because they would get 'sent to game over too early' which is another frequent complaint that has come up, so they'd need to be at least mentioned somewhere else, like they are currently on the dailies, probably with direct links, so as people that don't work as soon as things are posted get to enter them too?

we tried direct links to them in the dailies and got yelled at for "hiding comps in dailies and away from everyone who doesnt use them" and not sharing them. hence the ongoing threads. those comps are comps that the people complaining about them being ongoing threads have entered week after week after week and not shared on here. it was merely the fact that it was me who direct linked them that got me yelled at, no one has complained about the direct links in the weekly thread for example, and no one ever complained about the direct links in the daily thread before it was me :)

so no they wont be direct linked. as i said, once an official guideline is in place, presumably it will state that a new prize = new end date = new thread, ill remove all those that meet that criteria form the daily thread with apologies to the people who did use it.
