New Comps Board Guidelines Discussion

OK, ive had enough and hopefully this will be the last input i have now.
When i first started comping i loved this board, everyone was so friendly and helpful. ALL competitions were posted on the main board, and if they were a regular, a link was posted in that section, with a note stating thats what had happened.
People comped in different ways, some comped from where they left off, some as new comps were posted, some by end date, some picked the big prizes, some entered everything and some would only comp using the regular board (i did not realise this until all this kicked off a few months ago). As all comps were posted on the main board, everyone had the chance to see every comp at least once, apart from those that only comped using the regular stickies, but i would guess anyone entering that way would know they were missing some comps - the fact its called the MAIN board really does indicate where the main amount of competitions would be.
A few months ago, i started noticing some regular posters had stopped posting, little remarks were in signatures and an all round apathy about the place. Yes, occasionally someone would kick off every now and again but never like this. So i looked into it and found all the comps that i used to enter, and thought that had stopped being issued, had been moved. No notice, consultation or explanation.
Now after numerous discussions, polls, heated debates etc i thought that some rules had been decided on, because to be fair, how it used to be when i started comping wasnt written in stone, its just how things were done (bumping to say thanks before the enter button arrived was the biggest problem). However, things that, to me, are really simple have been made difficult. The majority of comps have an end date, and if you are not sure you make one up. There are a very small majority that dont have an end date, but these tend to be things like a newsletter sign ups. I really did think all this had been sorted out too.
It turns out what i thought people where talking about i was completely wrong, however, whenever i have posted my interpretation of the rules, people seam to agree with what conclusion i came to.
So, for hopefully the last time this is how i view the rules, as discussed (and simplified for my small brain) and decided by, not me, but by the posters who have bothered to have a say.
All competitions to be posted on the main board - if they are a daily or a weekly then a link can be made to the weekly or daily sticky.
If you do not know the end date, then make one up and put guessedenddate somewhere in the body of your post.
If it is a once only or sign up/newsletter competition we have now stopped the monthly sticky and these will go there in its place - please put ONCEONLY and link it to the regular competitions. (Im guessing once the monthly comps have all been transferred and im hoping to finish my last ones tonight, a new sticky will be made for these, replacing the monthly sticky)
If a competition has extra info that would benefit compers before they click on the link, that should be 'tagged' in the title ie Facebook, Twitter, Blog, Effort etc.
I think what i have put is clear and simple and as Glads simple guidelines state - Simple guideline
Regs board
Daily and weekly drawn comps that have no overall promotion end date
Once only entry into a draw when registering for a site or signing up for a newsletter
Main board
Anything else
I dont understand what this 'overall end date' is. For example, the Honeybuns comp i mentioned earlier is now in the weeklies - but it has a start and end date (today) it does have the same link but a different question and prize some weeks (i know, i won a valentines tin in Feb) and personally i think it should be in both because yes at the moment it is a weekly comp, but it has an end date so according to the rules, should be on the main.
Ive had my say - but if this carries on like it is then im sorry, im off - i have too many problems in my real life to have people on a nameless, faceless forum to give me more stress and heartache, i really have had enough of people arguing over i have no idea what.0 -
I'm putting myself wholly and completely behind Cat's explanation here, this is exactly what I thought we'd agreed on as, I think, did most other people.
Thanks for putting into Plain English CC :TThat ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free0 -
Thanks Cat, that was my understanding too :T:beer:Thank you to all posters:beer:

2 points. every single daily drawn comp has an end date of that day. every single weekly comp has an end date of each week.
thus there are no regular ongoing comps.0 -

because i want clarity? because i dont want it to carry on as this comp has a daily/weekly end date and needs posted every day/week, but others dont and should be ongoing threads updated each time. i want to know what way things need posted, so i know exactly what rules to follow and its no longer down to the op to decide where an dhow they want to post. sorry you feel thats nitpicking, but that situation is what started this all off in the first place/0

Wanting clarity is one thing pcl, but going into minute detail and saying well technically no comp is a reg, will never move this debate on.
For the comps board cat's explanation explains quite well what goes where, and yes a few like honeybuns doesn't really have a home anywhere, those need a home like the daily mail handbag needed a proper home.
Easiest solution would be to put in on main and link to a section in the daily sticky, same with bag comp, then if u comp from daily sticky you will see it under tuesday comp etc etc.
that way everyone will see it.
yes there will be exceptions, like the people who only comp twice a week etc etc, but u can only do so much to please people x#JusticeForGrenfell0 -

................. edited...I'm only home for an hour, but just wanted to say, that as long as I've been comping the regs board has been there, and there has always been comps on there which were not on the main board - think it was supposed to be any comp that you could enter more than once d/w/m...
I had a look then, and decided then not to bother with regs (I do use dailys sticky now), as there were enough comps in main for me, same as I rarely bother enter from the postals, puzzler, tab threads....My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly
Our Precious Baby Tianna has now joined our Family, she is much loved and very welcome, xxx0 -
Ok, how i read the 'nit picking' - if we have a daily that ends the same day, it goes on the main board only, because its not 'daily' its for one day only! The Times one stands out to me, that one was hourly - should we set up a new sticky for hourly comps? It cant go on the daily board, because people use the dailies at different times of the day (like the main board i know) and like i said, people have to take responsability for their own comping.
I always thought the daily sticky was for competitions that could be entered every day (not just one day) and if you missed a day it didnt matter. Normally, you would see it first on the main board and then every other day you could either bookmark it yourself or use the (and i do think this) wonderful daily/weekly sticky. So, in my opinion, the ones on the daily sticky are like the recent Laura Ashley one, it had the same £50 gift voucher prize every day, it was the same link everyday and there was a new winner everyday. It DID NOT have an end date of each day, it ended at the end of the month - this is where people have to take responsability for their own comping and either enter everyday or not.
You also get the daily comps that are enter everyday with the same link, for the same prize but with one winner at the end of it, but it has an end date. Again, i do not see the problem in putting this on the main board and then linking it to the dailies.
Some dailies need a new question/link everyday, if its on the main board there is more chance of it being bumped nice and early with the correct link/answer - if the thread is linked to the dailies people will still see all they need to see whether they enter from the dailies or main.
I dont see a problem with the section in the dailies, for the 'weekliy dailies' such as yesterdays bag comp, or todays Hunnybun comp as long as they are also on the main board - they are both regular competitions so have a place on the regular thread, i do have a problem with them not being in the main board - the majority of people asked for comps with an end date to go on the main board, i dont care about 'overall end dates' maybe they will never end and our grandkids grandkids will still be entering them, but they do have an end date.
Have i covered everything? i really do feel like screaming at the moment.0
