New Comps Board Guidelines Discussion

In answer to your new compers comment IF it's not already there (and sorry I've not checked), perhaps a link to the daily and weekly stickies should be added to the brilliant beginners comping guide when it's next updated?
People don't read stickies, it's a manual, so unless they get stuck there is no need. So people will come to the main board and comp.
They may eventually find it, they may not.
To be honest I'm still a little confused. Do regulars have a thread of their own, per website, even if the prize and question change frequently? So I would have to regularly check the thread to see if I want to enter this time?
Many thanks0 -

i hope not anyway
thnak you toni for posting them all
if the new comp is posted on main each time then linked to weekly's surely peeps can't dupe, as they thank/click the enterplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
Cannot see how any of this makes it easier for the majority of people who will now have to enter fewer competitions or spend longer to enter the same number they do at the moment as a simple end date search on main will miss so many competitions.
as of now over 200 extra monthly comps will be posted on the main board each month, that used to be posted in regs
as well as all the dailies and weeklies that have an overall end date that used to be in regs
compared to a small number of ongoing weeklies now going on regs
As I already said I will post it wherever it is supposed to go but how a competition with a start date, an exact end date, a unique question and unique prize gets classed as a reg without an end date just seems bizzare to me.
because the overall promotion is ongoing with a regular entrychange of question and prize can be added to the thread which works fine for other threads posted in regs
everything you say has already been discussed until it was realised that a compromise had to be found, out of nearly 400 voters over 50% wanted to keep the regs board, in this thread users of both boards just wanted a clear guideline so all comps are treated the same, and even people who wanted all comps on mains have agreed to compromise and try itI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Maybe people should take some responsibility for how they comp? The new rules are a middle ground so we all stop arguing and it's only a trial.
Only other option I can see is not move all the weeklies to regs for a few weeks but make sure at the top of any that will move, in very big text, OPs say that this comp will be posted in regs from w/c whenever? Then people have no reason not to know because even if they didn't look at the new rules or the comping guide they WILL have looked at the comps from the previous few weeks?
In answer to your question, as I see it:
Monthlies are to be posted as new threads each month now, all of them new answer or otherwise.
Weeklies are to be ongoing threads. End dated promotions now go on main and rolling promotions go on regs.
But that's only how I see it I could be wrong0 -

em that would mean gilla had to replace every single link in the weekly thread with a new one every single time a new thread gets posted...which has never been how it works and would imo be incredibly unfair to ask her to do. the ongoing threads should be on main if there is an overall promo end date, and on regs otherwise. either way they should be linked in the weekly thread once...and left there not needing changed until either the ongoing thread gets too long or the promotion ends. same with dailies.
if they are posted in an ongoing thread that is updated, then posting them newly on main is duping the comp and means that those of us who can be bothered to use the sticky threads can accidentally enter twice.
the linking threads to an ongoing thread created more threads on main, more effort for the people to post, and more effort for people to follow the links to enter them than running through the weekly sticky once a week would be or bookmarking/subscribing to a thread and entering it when the new answer is posted each week.0 -
weekly updated if i visit it

unless i've subscribed to the thread then get updated emails to say there's been a new post with new compplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
I take full responsibility for how I comp. Badly, not won anything in ages
That could probably work for current compers. The future is a different kettle of fish.
I have my fingers crossed it works0 -

you post the tvnews comp every week on main & peeps expect to find it there, if it's posted/moved to regs it's going to be lost by loads of peeps who use main board
dailies and weeklies that are an ongoing comp with no forseeable end date and drawn regularly are going on regs in an ongoing thread with updates on the thread
if they are daily/weekly UNTIL a certain end date they will be on main board but still in an ongoing thread
yes some weekly promotions will move off main to regs and hopefully a lot of peole will read the sticky with the guideline and be able to find them, I'm also in the process of pm'ing every comper with a link to the guidelines (so far I've done nearly 200 pm's), that will take some time because so far I've spent 3 days moving monthlies out of regs, (having to check them all to see if they are a oneoff entry or not) after going through the sticky there were also 11 full pages of monthlies there that weren't in the monthly sticky as ppd hadn't been given the link and I'm on page 4
so at least 300 threads that regs peeps would expect to find on regs and will now be on another board for them to findI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. i dont understand your point? its the same with dailies.
monthlies on main as new thread each time, weeklies as ongoing threads on main if they have an overall end date, on regs if they don not have any end date other than each weeks end date.
its a compromise and i for one really dont want to start down the argument of it all over again. can we please just all take responsibility for how we comp?
those of us who hate end of month comps having 50ish pages anyway are now going to hate them even more and miss out on more comps if we dont manage to work through them all picking out what we want to enter, as well as any that get forgotten and dont get reposted each month, when before there were a few hundred of them in monthly thread.
those of us who hate regs and only ever use main are going to miss out on a few comps that have previously been left on main each week.
the option is there to go to regs or to the weekly sticky once a week and get most of them that way.
i will choose to skip all end last day of the month comps and it will be my choice because i cba to go through 80 odd at a guess pages of comps ending that day so i will accept that its my choice. if people choose not to go to regs/weekly and daily stickies thats their choice.0
