10,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Cheers for the reply purplecatlover
With not comping by end date I've never really paid a deal of attention to searching with it.I tend to use the standard view in the main with the odd look in Likeability to see any I might have missed.

thanks for the input everyone :)

nice as it sounds we won't be able to have a sub board for each different type of comp :) but when velvet updates the guidelines we can include a section for tags to be added to title eg FB, Twitter, Blog

in this poll 378 people voted, and over 50% voted for an option that involved keeping the regs board in some form

most comps regularly receive under 500 thanks although the most popular comp I can find has 911 thanks (a Take a Break thread), and looking at the names a lot of people only come on to mse comps to enter and click thanks, so I think the above poll was pretty fair :)

so what we need is an agreement on what should be posted on regs and what should be posted on main board

I hope no one minds but I'm going to read through this and other discussions again and try to put something together that could work for compers of both boards and BGs :)
I know some users want all on main board and others want a regs board with ongoing threads so will try to find a middle ground, then see if anyone has major problems with it

Hi and sorry this is 24hrs later than I promised :o

It took most of yesterday to put together, I then sent it by pm to random selection of posters on this thread and tonight sat down to read through their comments and tweak things
big thanks to all of them for reading the pm and helping me out :T

I've read back again through all the discussions and I know that this guideline won't please anyone completely but I hope it gives most of you some of what you want :)
actually I think the one thing everyone wants is to wrap this up and get back to comping so maybe I will give everyone something they want :D

and a lot of people wanted something simple too so the simple explanation comes first followed by the full explanation :)

I just hope it's come together and can be used in the comps board guidelines, it's not my ideas, it's what I think is a compromise/middle ground of all of your ideas :) xx

ETA - I'm hoping this could be accepted as a trial to be reviewed after Xmas, I know it's way too early to mention the X word :rotfl:, but reason I thought this is it needs at least 6 months as that's only 6 postings of the monthlies all on the main board, which takes us to end of October, after which the boards will be going manic as usual at the end of the year so could be reviewed in Jan when it's fairly quiet

and if you mostly agree with this then we could get it started on 1st April, so all the new monthlies get posted at the beginning of a month
I'm around all Friday evening/night and most of weekend to help :)

    Regs Board

    Daily drawn and/or entry comps
with no overall promotion end date in an ongoing thread updated with change of prize/question etc

    Eg
    Gu chocolate
    Dorset Cereals
    Aria
    Watches2you

    Weekly drawn and/or entry comps
with no overall promotion end date in an ongoing thread updated with change of prize/question etc

    Eg
    Pure highway DAB
    Crunchie
    Sony Ericsson
    TieRack

Sign up to newsletter or register with site
and be entered into the next draw. I’m not calling these monthlies as they can’t be ‘entered’ monthly (strictly they are not regs either but if they were in the regs board with a sticky listing them people can check if they have thanked the OP to see if they have previously signed up, if they were posted each month on the main board there is no easy way to check if you have signed up previously)

    Eg
    Ryvita
    MadDogSki
    CatTree
    EvanCycles

    Dailies sticky
with links to ongoing dailies on regs and dailies on main board with an overall promotion end date

    Weeklies sticky
with links to ongoing weeklies on regs and weeklies on main board with an overall promotion end date

    3rd sticky
with links to all the sign up/register sites
Current monthly sticky would not be needed as true monthly comps will be on main board with an end date, although it will be useful as a reference for a few months so people can check all the reg monthlies are now getting posted individually each month (maybe the thread can be used for that time for people to post and volunteer to take on certain comps)

    Main Board

All single entry comps with an end date

Daily comps with an overall promotion end date
as an ongoing thread with end date being the promotion end date. Linked in regs daily sticky

    Eg
    Castoff
    JustMilk
    Nestle
    BeautyGuild

Weekly comps with an overall promotion end date
as an ongoing thread with end date being the promotion end date. Linked in regs weekly sticky

    Eg
    ClioVaVaVoom
    Kinect for Xbox
    Nintendo 3DS

    Monthly drawn comps
, regardless of length of promotion, posted in new thread each month (the key word is drawn so if a comp is drawn monthly it can be posted on the main board with an end date even if it can be entered daily/weekly. (If it is a daily/weekly entry though it would be good if people can add a link in the daily or weekly sticky and daily/weekly entry posted in the title)

    Eg
    StHelier
    LoveHearts
    Strada
    FieldsOfBlue

Any comp with an irregular entry method or end date
(this will probably include most of the ITV and other TV comps as they tend to only run for the life of the TV series)

    Eg
    SciFi
    WhatsOnTv

    Mags threads
    - to stay on mains as currently posted and if enough people think we need to then we’ll have a separate discussion on them

I know some people want the weeklies on the main board too but reading all the comments it looks like this is going to be a massive change and it would be good if we try it with monthlies first and then everyone can see the impact and make a decision on weeklies later

I also know some people want a new thread for each change of prize/question etc but whilst the weeklies stay in the regs board it makes more sense to me to keep the simple option of ongoing threads with updated changes, along the lines of these 2 comps.

Firstly, good work in trying to come up with an overall solution.

After digesting this and putting it in its most simple form, I really see it as “carry on as we are now” with these 4 exceptions:-

    1) All monthlies go to individual posts each month, monthly sticky redundant.

    2) Weeklies that are posted individually each week are to move to regs if they are ongoing, or to a thread on main that lasts for the duration of the promotion if they have a promotional end date.

    3) A new section for sign up/register draws. (I call these ‘new customer only’ comps)

    4) Possibility of Weeklies going to individual posts in the future

I honestly don't understand this bit at all.

The two examples given are "Daily comps with an overall promotion end date" and should be in that section. WOTV and similar comps need a link in the daily sticky.

What is an irregular entry method?
What is an irregular end date?

I take it to mean "Not the end of the month / week."
    HTH :D
Worse things will have happened in the world today...
"The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."
  • i take it to mean comps that almost always have comps running, they allow daily or weekly entry for extra entries but thats pretty much the only thing regular about them. the start/end dates vary much the same as most of the single entry comps that go on main. or the start and end day is random, one week it will be monday, next thursday, maybe skip a week, then tuesday so not regular on a set day of the week iyswim?

agree that they overlap in part with daily entry comps with overall end date section, any which way no matter which they are grouped into the end result is the same, post on main with the overall end date and add a link to the daily thread. oh wait ive just read again, maybe it just needs the addition of add to daily sticky if it allows daily entry or something? both sci fi and wotv and look and many of the others that allow daily entry fit it the way i look at it above, and i guess since we are talking regular comps here its common sense to add them to the daily sticky?

monthlies on main is not an option i wanted, unless they had an overall end date lol however i know and understand the word compromise and can do so :) thank yuou glad for all your effort in trying to sort something out.

well basically comps that don't neatly fit into the other set categories
    irregular end date
ie SciFi comps - all listed on one page, comps run for random amounts of time, so if all SciFi comps were in one ongoing thread people may miss some of the changing ones, and the individual comps don't rerun with regular end dates (hope I've explained that :o)
some FB page comps - comp runs until a certain number of 'likes' then will run another comp (these would be on mains with a guessed end date)

    irregular entry method
I added this to cover all options ie in case a site started running an ongoing comp, along the lines of cokezone where entry depends on how many codes you have, or had any other odd entry method that wouldn't fit into postals for example :)

and yes to everyone that's mentioned it any comp on mains or regs that has a daily or weekly entry or draw should be posted as a link in the relevant sticky, if anyone isn't sure post anyway and the thread OPs can help decide whether it should go in :)

    thanks :)

re 3) they would still be in the 'regs' board but instead of a monthly sticky we'd have a new sticky to list all of these, any newbie (or oldie ;) who's never gone through the whole list) can then just work their way through the list click enter and then forget them,
if new ones are always added to the top of the list then whenever you go back to it, you'll just need to work through from the top until you get to one you've entered
