re 3) they would still be in the 'regs' board but instead of a monthly sticky we'd have a new sticky to list all of these, any newbie (or oldie ;) who's never gone through the whole list) can then just work their way through the list click enter and then forget them,
if new ones are always added to the top of the list then whenever you go back to it, you'll just need to work through from the top until you get to one you've entered

There is one thing to bear in mind with these. Assuming a monthly draw, then often it is not realised they are actually "new customer only" until the second month when it says 'you are already registered' when you try to enter. At this point the comp would already have been posted in the wrong place twice and will need merging and moving by a BG to the new section. When it appears there, loads of compers will have already entered anyway! Its main purposes will end up being for newbies (when they finally find it!), and to provide something that is not G.O. in a search when someone is thinking of posting it again!!

Do you think comps like DELL should be an exception to the rule. With comps like this you can unsubsribe/de-register and enter again each month.

    my 2p worth lol

newsletter comps that dont also have an entry form/question/state clearly they need to be entered every month are more likley to be one of entry aimed at new subscribers anyway are they not? or is that just me being too logical in what i expect form sites :rotfl:

the unclear ones, if they get posted, then the second month its noted they are one of entry only the newest thread could be moved to regs and linked in the sticky and leave the first one in game over?

dell...personally i hate that being reposted on main every month as it is. it is aimed at new subscribers only, but like many newsletters you can unsub from them. dell takes a few days to clear you from the database so if i hit it the day before that months comp ends i dont have time to unsubscribe, bookmark the thread to go back to and then resubscribe thus re entering it for that month. yeah they have fab prizes that i would enter if i hit it earlier in the month and could then remember to go back, but unless its made very clear in the op its a waste of time most times me opening and trying to enter because i cant.

one of my bugbears is the comps that are really only meant for new subscribers but you can circumvent that like you can dell, being posted as new comps each month :(

Thanks Glad for all the hard work and for coming up with a fairly reasonable compromise that seems to be win some/lose some for everyone

I think newsletter ones have always been tricky as they don't really belong everywhere but need to belong somewhere. It seems like a good starting point for a rule and can always be tweaked I guess....if that's the only thing we've really got to worry about then great job is all I can say after all the agro this last few months :D

Do I need to change the dates on any of my used to be monthlies or is this starting from 1st April (or after?)

I think if a site asks you to register to be entered into a draw and doesn't state that you will be able to re enter the draw every month it should be treated as a one-off and posted in regs (some sites state that if you register once they will enter you into further draws but you still only have to actually register the once)

and unless a site states they allow you to unsubscribe to be able to enter the following month it should again be in regs although it could be posted that the above is possible

although a lot of these are posted on the main board as a new comp each month at the moment, they would be moved over to regs next month, and we can see the next month how many new one-off/register draws are found and how many get posted on main board (I don't know if many completely new ones are found every month to cause a problem) :)

I hope if people don't see any problems we could start it from April 1st and I can spend the weekend moving the current monthly threads in the regs board to GO etc :)
and there's a full month for people to see a sticky with the guideline and find their favourite comps

I also thought I could look at one of the most popular comps, some have 900 and more thanks, and pm each of the thankers with a link to the guideline :)

    MONTHLIES:-

Comps on both regulars (ongoing) and main (promotional end date) have to be dealt with, although the latter could be allowed to run their course at first and dealt with after the ongoing ones.

Note that just moving threads to G.O. does not prevent people posting new questions/prizes on the end of the thread. People can access the comp via the sticky or their own bookmark without realising the thread is in G.O. and can post and enter the comp. If an individual thread is also put on main it is a dupe and people could enter twice. The threads need to be locked – then the new month’s comp can only be posted on main and we would have posters for these comps automatically.

I would not start this on April Fool’s Day. If April’s comps were posted under current practice, then locking/moving and finding volunteers to post the comps could start about the 16th at a more leisurely pace. The weekends starting 22/04 and 29/04 are both 4-day weekends when the board is likely to be quiet allowing more time for changes. Comps posted by websites manually are unlikely to start until the 3rd May, leaving 1st and 2nd to deal with those comps that start automatically on the 1st.

1st April could be used to do a smaller sample of comps – to test procedures, check reactions and anticipate problems.

Just my humble opinion :o but I think we should start the regime for monthly comps on the 1st of a month.

If you're worried about people entering from threads in GO then the old monthly comps and the monthly sticky need to be deleted not just locked. You can still enter from a locked thread, especially if it's one that doesn't need a new answer/link ;)

I'll try to make sure people who use the monthly sticky are aware when they look at it next about the change
and I'll have a think today about other things mentioned :)

    Main Board

All single entry comps with an end date

    Monthly drawn comps
, regardless of length of promotion, posted in new thread each month (the key word is drawn so if a comp is drawn monthly it can be posted on the main board with an end date even if it can be entered daily/weekly. (If it is a daily/weekly entry though it would be good if people can add a link in the daily or weekly sticky and daily/weekly entry posted in the title)

    Eg
    StHelier
    LoveHearts
    Strada
    FieldsOfBlue

can i ask then who will be resposnsible for this ?

i posted this to the regs after doing it monthly many times on the main board and saw that a lot of similar comps were being moved over to regs, so thought i would jump before i was pushed so to speak

now it appears comps like this may [once again] have approval for posting on the main board, but i had done it once and forgot about it

what of others who might have put theirs in regs as it was the place to be, forgot about it and moved on, never visiting this or any discussion thread and realising about the change ?

if the OP is unaware or simply uninterested in reverting to picking up the comp again and posting it every month to the main board - who is going to do it

    2014 WTD ~ CH10OC50CW55PC10AB25BA120SB15OC30BC160BV105OC30CT20GC10GB100
    :shhh:

Apparently everything has a happy ending and if you havent arrived at the happiness, it hasnt ended yet

  • the op in the monthly sticky could have all those links removed (maybe leaving newsletter ones for now until we see if ppd wants to maintain that thread since monthly is going or if someone else wants to take it over) thus making it impossible to enter them from that and from main. perhaps a note in the first op explaining that they have gone?

i dont know what to suggest for people who make and use their own list, surely they have the issue of possibly duping comps anyway if they have added them form main when they are first posted and then no noticed they are being repeated on main each month? dupes on main of those in the stickies or also on regs has been a problem for those of us using the regs forum/threads for the past year ish while ever so many have been posted both places, id expect it to have been the same for people maintaining their own lists? thus maybe we all need to continue as we have before with whatever method we used to avoid dupes?

fnc63 thats a fear that i and others have mentioned repeatedly. i guess that we just have to hope that too many dont fall by the wayside and that other people pick up and continue to post the comps they would normally have found (and in some cases posted and duped) in a thread in regs or via the sticky. they become a free for all and whomever remembers or finds the newest comp fist posts the same as with other one time entry comps. its not going to be any one persons responsibility though hopefully some people will adopt certain sites/comps each month the way others are adopted and posted by people iyswim.
