My A1 alarm system I had installed over 15 Years ago at a cost of £45, is still kicking to this day, as yet nobody has broke into my property and should they risk it, with the reliability of my alarm system (which has never sounded a false alarm to date) my neighbours will happily check the house or phone the police in my absence at no extra cost.

This is pretty common around here, virtually every estate has a neighbourhood watch programme. Such a scheme is far more reliable than hoping the Police will turn up in good time should they get an automated message from some extortionate alarm system.

Hmmm, that says everything to me about your character, trying to justify such a filthy, scaremongering, LYING, scamming company as SAS, by calling it "inaccurate" whilst claiming every company does it. Fortunately not everyone turns a blind eye to crime in such a feeble way as this.
I can assure you Marleyboi what I said says lots about my character but not in the way you think. I know how the world works, I have experienced a lot of the world and it's not through Rose coloured spectacles.
Jimbo13 is right I do not work with a comercial company I work with the local authority, I cannot tell you exactly what I do due to the nature of my job. But again due to the nauture of my job I am very cynical of most businesses, they are all out to make money to survive and that's just life I'm afraid.
I am however sorry that you feel you know my character and have judged me on a few short sentences.
Gave up trying to have funny Sigs..

  • Good news, received a letter from the bank they have agreed to refund 9 years 5 months of the money we paid to SAS. Full and final settlement, but they state is it to allow us to arrange for a replacement from ADT, we sent them a copy of the quote we had received for a replacement. We have since had a couple more quotes, and then had the alarm set with our number as an interim move. Question, the acceptance I have signed just says in respect of a transaction dated August 2010, can we do want we like with the money? plus, as it comes back onto the credit card, what happens to the credit balance at the end of the month? Not sure how we stand with regard to using the refund. Still its good news, not sure what HSBC will think though.
Has anyone else had any luck with a section 75 claim?

We've not heard from our credit card coy yet. What are they obliged to pay under Section 75.

How did they work out 9 yrs 5 mths. Seems a strange period to calculate.
  • See Barneyknows post - presumably an "industry average".

Congratulations on getting the money back!

  • The 9 years etc is how many months we had left on the contract when SAS shut up shop. Still not sure what to do with the refund as it has now appeared on my credit card, a credit balance is a new one. Will they pay it back into our bank account, instead of taking money out to clear my balance. My problem now is do I have to buy a new system. I hope kirkdale keeps up the fight with the credit card company, it has been a long haul for me, and I think they only moved quicker when I threatened them with financial ombudsman. That plus I made a formal complaint with HSBC due to the time they were taking and the stupid letters they were sending to me, it moved very quickly after that.
  • I have a M&S credit card which I used to pay for my SAS contract. M&S have refunded the amount into my credit ststement with no instructions on how it should be spent. However there is a proviso that it may be deducted if after discussions with SAS they decide I am not entitled to it. Still have the 'free' alarm!

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Have M & S refunded the whole amount that you originally paid.

That's what I assumed they were liable for under section 75 but HSBC refunded Barneyknows the balance of the period left when SAS closed.

It sounds like each Credit Card Coy has their own way of working out their liability.

Maybe I should have started a new thread but as I mentioned a few months ago - connection with solar panel firm. Just be aware see this latest ...

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/life/consumer/consumer-problems/2011/07/17/scambusters-probing-solar-panel-firm-linked-with-rogue-alarm-firm-boss-david-diaz-86908-23277576/
  • REF Spammys comment about daitem alarms.

The links you posted showing the alarm on ebay are completely wrong and untrue to what was used within an sas installation. Please if you are going to post anything then make sure it is true. I have researched in the internet the rough prices for a complete alarm system, not just an alarm panel.

The alarm panel comes in at £300 (yes wireless for an easy install but also having no cables means to mess. There is also dual frequency to prevent alarm hacking)
The pir detectors come in at about £80 (more if pet friendly), average house will have 4 = £320
2 x key fobs, 1 with the alarm, spare at £59.99
    smoke detector £119
    Live siren £270
Fitters costs, prolly about £100 for installation.

    A total cost of £1169.
    Monitoring package £33 per month.

This information is all correct as to the exact equipment which sas used for thier installations. Any customer who has had an alarm fitted from them should have been given a full brochuer and instruction manual on the use of thier alarm and the brochure will give all the technical details of the alarm and all the benefits from it.
