I have had to start a new thread here as the original one has been locked:-

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2085601

It is restarted because I have just received a PM from another member that read as follows:-

Hi . Had one of sAs alarms since Nov 10 can't believe how badly I've been taken in. Reported situ(ation) to consumer direct and have sent recorded letter asking them to come good on their promises. Anyone got a phone fax or email address that still works?

I cannot find a single web page for SAS that still works and none of their published telephone numbers are answering.

SAS FIRE AND SECURITY have set up three new companies to take over the business as they are no longer permitted to trade.

These are:-
  • Central Intelligence Security Solutions Ltd (see other thread) will cover the South of of England. http://www.cissolutions.co.uk This company already seems to be gaining a reputation for ignoring the TPS regulations.
  • Home Guard at 18 Estate House, Fox Street, Preston PR1 2AB (Telephone 0844 887 1410) will cover the North of England. http://homeguarduk.com/
  • Skynet Security Systems Ltd, 375 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 4LW (Telephone 0141 959 0577) will cover Scotland. http://skynetsecurity.co.uk/
LINKS BETWEEN THESE THREE COMPANIES AND THE FAILED SAS FIRE AND SECURITY

If you want a laugh, compare these two sites:-
http://homeguarduk.com/
http://skynetsecurity.co.uk/
Two peas in a pod!

Once you have viewed those two, go look at http://www.cissolutions.co.uk - Does it look familiar? Different layout but the same text?

I started a new thread on CISSL, unfortunately this seems to have become unavailable. However, a MSE member called "thedooropener" was kind enough to offer this observation:-

"My parents had a guy from CISS Ltd round today after a telephone cold call they got yesterday. They offered a security system for £1 and a free risk assessment. The guy turned up today as I said and was there 4 hours!! Luckily enough I arrived or I think he would have seriously tried to get them to sign up. He quoted (and I have the paperwork) £15 grand for a 15 yr monitoring deal and alarm!!!!! For reasons I can't go into on here I myself am quite clued up on security matters and was stunned by the system they were trying to sell them. A battery operated (not even hard wired to the mains!!) wireless system, no external bellbox, 4 mag contacts, 2 pir's. That was £2 grand!!! During the hard time I was giving him he called his 'regional manager' and handed the phone to me.

As I took hold of the phone the screen said 'Sam - SAS' as the contact.

He called himself Mark on the phone, waffled on about how they were currently awaiting NACOSS approval (which I'm quite sure is rubbish but am going to check in morning).
"

If you do a Google search on "Skynet Security Systems Ltd, 375 West George Street", you get this result:-

"Homeguard/Skynet provide a tested and guaranteed alarm system for residential homes ... Skynet 375 West George Street Glasgow G2 4LW Telephone 0141 959 0577 ..."

Looks like the lazy web programmers forgot to remove one of the telling links between the two companies. Tut Tut!

All three companies were formed after the court case against SAS that caused its termination. The executives of these companies were all in senior roles at SAS

You will have to move quickly to confirm these facts as I suspect that there will be some rapid web-page revision after these revelations. Clearly, this sort of proof is rather damning....

  • It seems this company is still around but using the name Homeguard UK Ltd, based in Preston.

My mum (who is not one to be scammed easily) has very recently had contact with them. She signed up and handed over a cheque for £4000 but after discussion with me and my sister decided that she didn't want the service and was suspicious of them.

    Turns out she was right.

She emailed and followed it up with a phone call to cancel the contract the following day. She hasn't recieved any goods from them and has today found out that they have cashed her cheque - over the 7 day cooling off period. She knows she should have cancelled the cheque, but now is trying to get her money back.

She has contacted the TSA - not much joy, contacted the company themselves who won't take her phone calls. She is going to call CAB and see what they advise. She is based in the Leeds area - so they are still working in all the areas that have previously been targeted.

Anyone got any advice about how to get her money back?

    Thanks
  • I have just taken a position out of there southampton branch, So what info do people have on this firm, i understand it is a direct sales job and they require a yes/no decision on the day but i didnt know they was into anything dodgy.

When you say the cheque was cashed...... do you mean cashed or paid into the bank?

    Guys
just had a letter from the P****s saying that they have decided to stop trading. i quote "as responsible directors of this company, we will source another monitoring company to honour any monitoring contracts entered into by SAS Fire & Security, and we will be in touch soon to provide you with the contact details" Ha. Ha. Ha. Whether this means Homegaurd will be in touch soon, i dont know, but if any working contact details get sent me, i'll be back to you.
Checked with Companies House, they havent received any notification yet. A recorded letter i sent to the Stockport place has failed so far.
  • I too received the same letter today and a search of the name SAS fire and security on Google throws up various websites around the UK where this company has operated from.

Does anyone know if we can get any refund from credit card companies for dishonouring the service if this is what turns out in the end ?
  • on the training course one of the guys asked, 'because the customer pays upfront what happens if we go bust? will they get a refund? to which the trainer replied ............ Oh !!!! off!!!!' this was in front of about 12 new starters...

The Official Receiver has taken over matters in the public interest so effectively the company has ceased trading. Companies House website should be updated shortly with an address of the liquidators but I suspect they will have a lot of work to do sorting out who is owed what......
Try ringing Consumer Direct if you want some initial advice on where you stand. tel 08454 04 05 06.

When similar thing happened to me some years ago I was inundated with offers from 'new companies' trying to get me to pay again for the service I'd paid the original company for so watch out !

I told my mum to check out some of the well known companies who have been monitoring alarms for years and seem to charge considerably less than SAS charged her........
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

I meant paid into the bank and the money has gone from the account.

Three new companies were set up by SAS ex-directors some 6 months ago, after they were on the end of a terminal court case regarding their business practices. These are:-
    • Central Intelligence Security Solutions Ltd (see other thread) will cover the South of of England. This company already seems to be gaining a reputation for ignoring the TPS regulations and offering FREE ALARMS as part of "a government scheme" (naughty!)
    • Home Guard UK, Fire and Security at 18 Estate House, Fox Street, Preston PR1 2AB (Telephone 0844 887 1410) who will cover the North of England. They are also gaining a reputation for calling TPS registered numbers.
    • Skynet Security System Ltd, 375 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 4LW (Telephone 0141 959 0577) will cover Scotland.
