  • hi everyone im looking for some advice and help, will post on this thread first as its more relevant here.

just found out my grandmother has an sas alarm! about 2 years ago she had it fitted which was fair enough people get alarms all the time and has had no problems; however. She tells me that she has had a letter saying that they have had some 'difficulties' over the last few months and are looking for somebody else to take over the service. Well thats a bummer i thought. Then she shows me the letter she got from monitoring and response solutions uk - alarm bells rang not only over the £99 admin fee they were asking her for - WHICH SHE PAID ON GETTING THE LETTER for fear of being left high and dry! (I later checked with trading standards she did not have to pay as they were just taking over an existing service)
but also that the new company didnt have an email or web address! very suspect, so i did some research and came across this thread and am aware of how unscrupulous this company and their sister company's are.

does anybody know if they are actually monitoring their clients or not?

im really not sure what to do, i dont want to scare or panic her as she is elderly. but i am not sure what kind of contract she had with sas, and what her payments were after the initial fee. I am also worried that she is not being covered at all by their service.
ideally id like to recommend that she cancels the contract with monitor and response solutions (trading standards told me that if she has no written information in the new letter about a right to cancel and did not have any verbal communication with them she has 3 months and 7 days to cancel) and take out cover with a more reliable provider like ADT.

i get the feeling she will say if shes being covered then let sleeping dogs lie...but if she has been tied into a contract and is going to be fleeced again by them im not sure what to do for her best interests.

if anybody could offer any help or advice that be great

Hi, I like many others am a casualty of this bunch of fraudsters. I have contacted Monitoring Response Solutions today regarding their upholding of the monitoring contract. I am informed that if an alarm is received from a former customer of SAS they WILL NOT RESPOND to the alert. They informed me that there is a legal problem and cannot advise further until Monday 4th April. They did say any customers who have an HP agreement will not be required to pay the £99 for the transfer of the contract to them, assuming that they are able to continue former customers of SAS will be required to enter into a new contract.

If I can add more info I will as and when...

  • A FORMER salesman yesterday revealed how bosses of dodgy alarm firm SAS Fire and Security are back in business - with a new firm but the same old tricks...

    ...

"The director at Skynet is listed as Warren Sneader while Anthony Johnstone is a former director. Sneader was a regional manager in Glasgow for SAS, while Johnstone was a branch manager.
Another company - UK Monitoring and Response Solutions - sent letters to SAS customers saying the firm had been wound up and that they would take on the monitoring if the customer paid £99.
But information on the company records for this parent firm list the director as Stephen Rievaulx Wilson - who was commercial director at SAS.
A former director is Carlene Black - the wife of Ludovic Black, who co-owned SAS with his brother David Diaz.
Diaz's wife, Terri Black, was also once listed as a director of UK Monitoring and Response Solutions, but resigned a month later.
Both women are also named in company records as former directors of First Cheshire Finance Solutions Ltd - the firm used to provide payment plans to customers who cannot afford the costly alarm system up front."

  • Like others, my parents were hit by this company on Thursday and by the Saturday they had a £3,250 system installed. I only found out on Saturday night and having read what is written here, we will be out to cancel the cheques first thing on Monday. These people are seriously slick to take my parents in without allowing them time to consult friends or family. What is even more frightening is that they may be allowed to return to take it out again. I'm taking solicitors advice as to whether or not they are allowed to gain access to private property after they have sold and installed a system using illegal practices. I will let this forum know how we get on.

My parents had a system installed on Saturday. I have checked out the instructions and it is a simple operation to programme the auto dialer to your own number. That way you can monitor your grandmother for the cost of the call. No need for a contract really but you might need the instructions for the alarm control box. I tested the alarm on Sunday night and we let it ring for 5 minutes. Still waiting for CISS to call us back and check if everything is alright. My mother was truely shocked and we are canceling her cheques first thing on Monday. How do these people sleep at night?

Thanks for this Georgiegirl71 we are in exactly the same position as you and look forward to hearing what happens on 4th April.

Did they say what the legal problem was and when you can phone back to find out what is happening.

Just come back from the Building Society and Solicitors this morning. We needed a crime number to cancel the Building Society cheque, which the police were more than happy to supply. Unfortunately, the cheque can only be cancelled manually and we have to wait until Wednesday before we know if it has been successful. The BS are legally obliged to honour it if it is presented before cancelled. Fingers crossed. We were able to cancel the bank cheque over the phone, there is a lesson there. I emailed a request to cancel the contract within 7 days last night and this afternoon, a representative of CISS has called to arrange removal of the equipment. I have delayed him until I know we have got the money back. Today the CISS staff have been passive and polite, a complete reversal of pre-sale tactics. The current staff appear to be in complete denial of their style of operation and although aware of this forum, I was told it was all lies and will shortly be shut down! In case we are all lying, I'd better say goodbye now ;-(
