    DONT SLATE ME FOR MY OPINION NOW BECAUSE I TELL IT HOW IT IS. I HAVE CONTACTS SO I KNOW WHAT INFORMATION I CAN GIVE IS TRUE AND CAN BACK IT ALL UP. SPAMMY, YOU SAY YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION AND ITS ALL TRUE ETC ETC, DOES THAT MEAN I CAN SIMPLY POST ANYTHING I WANT HERE WHETHER ITS BULL OR NOT AND USE YOUR FANTASTIC WORDS (I HAVE CONTACTS).
    Well you could try, the problem is, nobody is likely to believe you, unfortunately for YOU, Spammy is pretty popular on these threads, (not just this thread), even I can vouch for that, but as you do not know me either, it matters not who either of us are.

    However there are many members on this popular forum, of various professions, who know one another only too well and will happily clarify, assist and vouch for trusted members.

    Fantastic words have nothing to do with it, in fact I am astonished that you find Spammy intellectually gifted with FANTASTIC WORDS. (No Offence Spammy ;)), whether or not this is down to your own lack of intelligence is irrelevant, it has more to do with Spammy's honesty, integrity and in depth research. This is what makes Spammy such a popular and trusted member, the very reason why your........, err I mean this company is left pulling out their hair.

    That MSE is such a popular and well read site is testament to your own desperation, Joe Public DO INDEED take note, moreso when obvious plants pop up and try to justify themselves in such an embarrassing way as this.

    There is nothing better than seeing scammers shoot themselves in the foot this way, which only serves to seriously backfire on them, exposing themselves much more than Spammy could attempt to do.

    Of course I have come across far more intellectual scammers than this, and know only too well that Spammy has too, in effect your offering nothing more than a troll rant, which only serves to expose yourself even more as to your own limitations.

    Joe public are free to read ALL of this thread, (WHICH WILL NOT BE DELETED) including your own posts, and can make up their own judgements, whether or not they choose to do business with this company is entirely their own choice, feel free to try to persuade them, just dont hold your breath.

    On a final note.......DONT SLATE ME FOR MY OPINION NOW BECAUSE I TELL IT HOW IT IS. ;)

    Is anyone with an SAS siren now easy picking?

    How can you be so naive ? Letts hope they are picked up by another monitoring company very quickly..before someone’s loved ones get hurt..

    Let's just review the official report from the National Insolvency Service:-

    "Two Cheshire based companies which sold monitored burglar and fire alarms to members of the public, making millions in the process, were today wound up in the Manchester District Registry following an investigation by Company Investigations of The Insolvency Service.

    The investigation established two connected companies 'SAS Fire and Security Systems Limited' ("SAS Fire") and 'Crime Research UK Limited' ("Crime Research"), worked in a coordinated manner targeting elderly customers with false promotional offers and high pressure sales tactics. In a 31-month period to September 2010, SAS Fire netted sales of over £18.1 million.

    SAS Fire operated a network of offices throughout England, Scotland and Wales from which it promoted the sale of alarm systems incorporating continuous, remote monitoring and a rapid response service in the event of activation. The company marketed the alarm systems by making unsolicited telephone calls claiming customers had been chosen to receive one of a limited number of alarm systems at a cost of only £1.00.

    The cold call would be followed up, usually within 24 hours, by a lengthy home visit by a sales agent. Potential customers were encouraged to buy a monitoring and response package costing up to £6,000 for a 15 year contract in order to obtain the alarm system at the promoted price of £1.00. Customers were pressed to make an immediate purchase at the time of the sales agent's visit and the alarm system would typically be installed within 48 hours, thereby limiting customers' ability to exercise their statutory right to cancel the contract within seven days.

    Commenting on the case, Stephen Speed, Chief Executive of The Insolvency Service said:

    "Our examination of SAS's trading practices established their customers were, on average, 69 years old and it was this targeting of potentially vulnerable customers that was a matter of particular concern to The Insolvency Service. We found the company's tactics were typical of those that prey on the elderly. The company used unacceptable methods to gain trust and entry into people's homes and once inside the conduct of their sales people breached consumer protection law.

    "Any other company that uses illegal high pressure sales tactics should be aware that The Insolvency Service can and will investigate, and where appropriate, take action to remove them from the business environment.

    "Anyone who has been affected by the trading practices of this or similar companies can report them to our Public Interest team on 0161 234 8531."

    Helena Herklots, Services Director at Age UK, said:
    "Although crime against older people is less likely than other age groups, people in later life can be an attractive target for companies using illegal high pressure sales tactics. A reputable company will never force a customer into making an instant decision, and anyone who has concerns should not hesitate to ask a close relative or friend for their advice.

    "Age UK has produced two free information guides 'Avoiding Scams' and 'Staying Safe' which warn people of the most common scams and provide practical steps to ensure older people are able to protect themselves against this type of crime in the home and on the doorstep. The guides are available free of charge from Age UK Advice on 0800 169 65 65 or by visiting www.ageuk.org.uk/scams-advice."

    The initial telesales call to prospective customers often made reference to Crime Research UK Limited ("Crime Research") conducting a crime survey. The investigation established that no such survey was being conducted and it was merely a device used by SAS Fire to facilitate a visit to the customer by one of its sales agents.

    In winding-up the companies the High Court accepted that, contrary to the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 ("the 2008 Regulations"), they had engaged in unlawful sales practices in order to induce the public to make a purchase and, in particular that:

    * the companies promoted their alarm system as being free, or of minimal cost, when in fact customers had to pay substantial monitoring charges;
    * the companies falsely gave the impression that their alarm system would be monitored or responded to by the Police;
    * the companies falsely gave the impression that their alarms were endorsed by public bodies such as a Local Authority, the Home Office or the Police;
    * the companies claimed that consumers had been specifically chosen to receive an alarm at minimal cost when this was not the case;
    * the companies sought to waive customers' statutory cancellation rights;
    * the companies used inaccurate crime statistics as part of their sales procedures to put customers in fear of crime;
    * all of the above being designed to generate an appointment with a sales agent who engaged in high pressured sales techniques; and,
    * the companies failed to distinguish between customers who had chosen to register with the Telephone Preference Service to avoid the receipt of unsolicited marketing calls, contrary to the Privacy and Electronics, Communications (EC) Directive Regulations 2003 ("the 2003 Regulations")."

  • I had no complaints with the service provided by SAS but now I am in the same situation as most of you. I just want to find a company to take on the maintenance and monitoring of my system. I have had 2 companies out so far and both have taken one look at my system and said "DAITEM never heard of them". The comments from both have been
    The alarm main box does not come up to accepted standards as the key pad should not be an integral part of it.
    They could not maintain a system that they know nothing about
    They would not know if parts are available and therefore costs would be unknown.
    It looks like something you would buy from B&Q was one quote
    Both companies have advised that they would not enter into a contract with me with this system, but would have no problem selling me one of their systems. Has anyone had any better luck than me?

    I think the companies are at it, why don't you not just google Daitem and you will find this out. Or go to Daitem.com Here is some cut and paste info, took me only 2 sec.
    Daitem, manufacturer of wire-free security systems
    Daitem is the inventor and manufacturer of totally wire-free and radio alarm systems. With over 30 years of security experience, more than 650 employees and more than one million systems installed across Europe, Daitem is the European leader in wire-free equipment for homes and companies.

    I see that the Premium Alarm systems web link also lists the Jablotron OASIS wireless alarms. These:-
    "provide excellent value and an innovative range of alarm components, including PIR sensors with in-built camera and flash. The full Jablotron product range is covered by 5 years manufacturer warranty, and is mostly powered by lithium battery technology."

    So that is a five-bedroom wireless system for £754.80 (inc VAT). Makes the DAITEM look very overpriced.
    I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.
  • Were the companies that you called out registered with any of the accredited certification bodies?

    Police and Trading Standards suggest that you should select companies who are registered with one or more of the following:-
    For a full Metopolitan Police Service report on selecting an alarm system and some very usefull advice, see this web page:-

    http://www.met.police.uk/crimeprevention/alarms.htm

    Of course, it is well known that SAS were not members of any of these organisations. In addition, the replacement companies (CISSL [deceased], Home Guard UK & Skynet Security Systems) are claiming to be "applying".

    Spammy comparing Alarms is like comparing cars, a Ford Focus does the same job as a Rolls Royce but is not the same quality, the Rolls Royce is a Premium car that costs 5 x as much. I was merely pointing out that Daitem (if you check) are market leaders of premium alarms. For 2 supposed alarm companies to say they have never heard of them is really strange. It also proves that news papers lie when they say they got an qualified alarm fitter to check the Alarm of an SAS customer, they said the Daitem alarm was a cheap £500. alarm. This is what I hate about the press Spammy, people believe what they read as true and although there is some truth a lot is not.
    None of this changes anything though, I still have no monitoring and shall have to buy my own batteries from now on :-(
